Chaltab, it's really all about the fact that the scene did not need changing. Yes, he looks a little different from how he appears in ROTJ. Whoopy-dee-doo. You knew he was the same person, didn't you? Hell, I knew it was the same person and I was 8 years old. So, why change it? The hood over the head added this great air of mystique to his persona. Now you see his whole face and, like I said earlier, it makes him look like a sad, pathetic old man, nothing more, nothing less. How is that scary? It's not. And the dialogue change? Why bother? I know it "ties up ends" to a degree, but it is insulting to think that George doesn't believe that people can make that connection on their own. He's turned a masterful watercolor painting into a paint-by-number schlock job.

Horror movie fans...

Warner is releasing both versions?!?!? SWEET!!! Hats off to them!!! I'd buy it sight unseen just to have the Schrader version.

DJJD, don't you hate when movies are mismarketed? From what I've been told, The Village is the same way. Not a horror movie yet it's hyped as one. Cabin Fever was also hyped as a horror movie here in the States.

On The Village topic, I've heard so much about what a let down it was and how it is not a horror movie and this and that, that I actually was able to figure out the surprise twist ending without even seeing it. How sad is that? I read an article yesterday about how Simon & Schuster is thinking of suing Shyamalan because the movie is a rip off of a best-selling children's book of theirs right down to the ending. And (with big spoiler warnings attached to the article) they revealed the ending to show the similarities. I just read it and said, "I KNEW IT!"

I don't buy new versions of old discs either. But the difference for me with LOTR is that I never purchased any of the two-disc sets that came out. I just hold off for the four-disc sets. I like knowing that a new version is coming out. I never bought the original Rounders because I know a new set is coming out later this year. And some of my old DVDs are not being replaced with new versions that have since come out. I never bought the special edition of A League of Their Own because there was nothing much to it. Just a few bonus thingies that I never wind up watching anyway. I like deleted scenes, alternate endings, and blooper reels. But sometimes those aren't even enough to make me buy a new version.

what's the reasoning behind that?

My thought was that each spine color was going to be a different color. However, they (HBO) just got lazy and used the old set up when season 3 came along. Just my opinion. But I was actually looking forward to different colors after 1 and 2 came out. When 3 came out with the revert back to clear spine, I knew it was going to be a problem.

galahad, you also have to remember that when Yoda said that about Luke's age, he was saying it as a copout. He was looking for excuses to not train him. Remember the tone of voice he used when he said it? Very indicative of a copout. Yoda was holding on to old Jedi ideals from the days of the Council and seemingly not facing the fact that Luke was the last one and that he needed to be trained regardless.

One thing I hate though is when the season sets don't fit together well based on the covers. The Friends and Simpsons sets fit nicely. However, there are changes in the Dawson's Creek sets that I don't like and my second season of Sex and the City is a blue spine instead of the transparent spines that the other five seasons have. If you buy the set now as part of the big seasons 1-5 bulk box, you get an s2 with a clear spine, but you still cannot get it individually.

While this change doesn't bother me as much as many others, it does look like ass. He just looks like a sad old man. Not some ultimate evil. Man, if he walked up to me and threatened me, I'd laugh, knock him over, and walk away. No, I'd just laugh and walk away, that's how unthreatened I would feel.

I'll wait for video.

Anyone see the new Entertainment Weekly issue? In the vein of AvP, they pit some of the classic sci fi films in heads up competition and predict who would win.

Terminator v Robocop - Terminator wins because of directives refraining Robocop from doing too much damage
Them! v Starship Troopers - Starship wins

Several others as well, but the creme de la creme is...
SW IV The Empire Strikes Back v ST 2 The Wrath of Khan - while both are superior sequels and Khan is a great villain in their minds, Empire kicks Khan's ass because no one can touch Vader. I liked it.

Check out the issue while it's still on newsstands. It has a photomosaic of Julia Roberts on the cover so you know which one to grab.
