1995 VHS
Time
Well, that's also because the widescreen VHS from 1995 were in such low production. Very few people then realized what the difference was. Plus, as I recall, the widescreen were pulled off the shelves nearly a year before the pan and scan were. I got my copy at a Media Play in Rockford, IL. And the friend that picked them up for me (I didn't own a car at the time and he lived in that area) told me the clerk there said they were to pull the copies off the shelves a couple days later so I got mine just in time. The P&S copies kept selling for a year afterwards. The copy I got was like one of only three or four they had in stock while the P&S was all over the place. Also, you had to go to specialty video stores to get the widescreen. The P&S could be purchased everywhere. Almost literally. Hence why buying copies of the widescreen 95 VHS is so damned expensive.

Reminder: Bootlegs of commercially available DVDs (such as the upcoming trilogy release) are NOT PERMITTED

Nah, it wasn't intentional, Galahad. Just people finding similarities and things like that. Kinda like the whole thing with all the smiliarities between President Kennedy and President Lincoln. You've heard all those, right?

Quote

1) Lincoln was elected in 1860, Kennedy in 1960, 100 years apart

2) Both men were deeply involved in civil rights for African Americans.

3) Both men were assassinated on a Friday, in the presence of their wives.

4) Each wife had lost a child while living at the White House.

5) Both men were killed by a bullet that entered the head from behind.

6) Lincoln was killed in Ford's Theater. Kennedy met his death while riding in a Lincoln convertible made by the Ford Motor Company.

7) Both men were succeeded by vice-presidents named Johnson who were southern Democrats and former senators.

8) Andrew Johnson was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson was born in 1908, exactly one hundred years later.

9) The first name of Lincoln's private secretary was John, the last name of Kennedy's private secretary was Lincoln.

10) John Wilkes Booth was born in 1839 [according to some sources] Lee Harvey Oswald was born in 1939, one hundred years later.

11) Both assassins were Southerners who held extremist views.

12) Both assassins were murdered before they could be brought to trial.

13) Booth shot Lincoln in a theater and fled to a warehouse. Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and fled to a theater.

14) LlNCOLN and KENNEDY each has 7 letters.

15) ANDREW JOHNSON and LYNDON JOHNSON each has 13 letters.

16) JOHN WlLKES BOOTH and LEE HARVEY OSWALD each has 15 letters.

17) A Lincoln staffer, Miss Kennedy, told him not to go to the Theater. A Kennedy staffer, Miss Lincoln, told him not to go to Dallas.

Coincidences? Absolutely.

And this would definitely be the term to use to describe mine. Every once in a while, I even sign off a rant by saying "soapbox dismounted." Heh heh.

Yep, I'm a blogger, too. However, mine isn't all about Star Wars so I don't list it here. Mine is a bit of this and a bit of that. Nice well-rounded ranting.

You can also try e-mailing view askew. Unlike many directors, if something interesting comes across the eyes of his screeners, he will respond. Another good way to get all View Askewers involved is to e-mail a help request to the guys at newsaskew.com. They are the official information source for View Askew stuff. Good guys.

Hey Switch! Wanna save yourself some hell? Ditch Safari and IE and go to the Mozilla.org site and nab the latest version of the Camino browser. Best one I've found so far for Mac OS X. I'm running Camino v 0.8 (yes, that is the correct version number).

Discussion: Hasbro Vintage Collection figures
Time
Hey all, I was just in Target and I saw a bunch of these Vintage Figs. They're not entirely bad. But I have a couple of questions...

1. Is only the first series coming out in the plastic keepcases? I ask this because I found a loose Greedo sitting there without the keepcase, but could find no others from that series (or so I'm thinking) outside the keepcase. They had Han, Ben, Leia, and Luke all in keepcases.

2. Did you know that they are also releasing Vintage Collection vehicles and 1/6 scale figures? I saw a 1/6 scale Luke vintage and a Millennium Falcon vintage.

3. Lego is doing the same repackaging some of their vehicles under the Vintage tags. Saw an AT-AT and a Millennium Falcon at Target as well.

NFL
Time
Olympics are once every four years. NFL is every season and, let's face it, this is only the preseason. Go with the Olympics. Watch the NFL preseason opener tonight to get your fill and then turn on NBC for the Olympic telecast. That's what I'll be doing.

Did you watch the Hall of Fame game at all? I watched some of the first quarter. As much as I like the Broncos (not more than the Bears, of course), I'm glad the Skins beat them. Denver needed to be taught a lesson for making the damn fool mistake of letting Portis go.

I don't own any SuperBits. But I have watched the Panic Room SuperBits since it was the only one available. And, to be honest, it didn't strike me as being too much better than many other DVDs I had. I'd rather have some deleted scenes than SuperBits designation. Maybe on a better system it's more noticeable. But I got nothing out of it.

I would've been happy with a three-disc for each LOTR as well. I can't say I've watched any of the bonus features on the first two EE sets. But I love the extended versions of the movies. The EE footage in Two Towers made that movie my fave of the bunch.

As for Mohicans, that is one of my fave films, too. I don't have it on DVD yet, though. I'll hold off. I've held off this long. Another one I'm waiting for an SE of is the original Batman. Burton's gotta have something up his sleeve. And hopefully Warner will push for it come time for the theatrical release of Batman Begins.
