I know the whole "o" and "a" thing. The thing I was suddenly unsure of, when the question of your gender came up, was whether Ricarda was a name in Portuguese. I didn't think so, but I didn't know for sure. So I kept up thinking Ricardo due to lack of countering evidence.

As I said in that post, I always thought you were a guy until someone posted that note about you as "she". That was the first time it ever came in question. I don't remember offhand who it was that said you were female via PM. I cleared out my PM history long ago and don't regularly use it. The thing is, even after it was "confirmed" I still acted as though you were a guy just because I had no reason from you to not do so. I think most other people acted the same way for the most part... just kept working under their original assumptions.

Language doesn't mean crap when it comes to trying to figure out a person's gender via username. Could you figure out Bossk or my outside username, kapgar, and determine my gender with either of those? No. I just remembered that you said in the thread "where we got our usernames" (or whatever it was called) that your name came from your real name. I used that to determine that your first name was likely "Ricardo". I speak Spanish and I know that once you know one romance language, it's not that difficult to figure out what is being said in similar romance languages like Italian, Portuguese, and French. The method is not 100% by any means, but it still works enough to get by. So I operated under the assumption that you were a guy named Ricardo. Seemed to work for me... and, apparently, for you too.

Nope. Never got around to it. I had thought about Shimmy back in the day when he was using his old avatar. It would have worked beautifully. Your's was tough because the characters in the image are so small. But I could find something similar on a larger scale to try. I just don't have my templates anymore.

There are some people that are dumb enough and then there are those that are going to perform an incremental upgrade (first the player, then the TV, then the sound system, etc.) and then there are those that will worry that their DVD player will become null and void and upgrade just to have the latest and greatest regardless.

If you sell it, they will buy.

I thought I heard they made a "dumb down" adaptor that allows HD-DVD players to play through standard TVs. Kinda defeats the purpose, but still and all the same.

That's the problem, I can't rent it. It's not available in stores here. Like I said, Netflix doesn't have it. Blockbuster doesn't (according to their website), nor does Hollywood Video (as per their website). This covers all the area video stores.

The problem here in the States is that these big chain video stores have put nearly all the homegrown, mom-n-pop video stores out of business. These smaller stores are the ones that would likely carry obscure titles like this. Hollywood and Blockbuster have pitiful selections of obscure and foreign titles. That's why I love Netflix. I can usually find obscure and foreign flicks there. But not this one.

As for downloading, I can't unless I want to sit through a dial up connection for hours. I've got broadband at work but they've put a block on all gnutella clients due to overloading of lab computers (I work at a University). I'm afraid to think how long a movie would take to download via dial up.

We started out the site being very positive and even going so far as to, on occasion, flatter GL. When the DVDs were announced over a year ago as being ones with changes and whatnot, we all said screw it. We know GL or people at LFL have read the site as someone with an e-mail domain of lfl.com or whatever actually signed the petition and Jay received word that the site was being monitored by LFL people. However, considering this site has been around for nearly two years, we've received coverage in the mass media several times, and have God-only-knows how many signatures and yet nothing has happened, we don't know whether or not to believe it actually ever will. So it's become a bit of a no-holds-barred situation.

Yes, some people have become extreme about it. I admit. But what can you do? This is a public forum.

As for it being a sweet viewing experience, I'm not going to give it that chance. And that's my choice. I don't own either of the two PT DVDs nor do I own the official OT DVDs. I have considered buying AOTC every now and again, but I rationalize against it by saying what good would it do because I don't want TPM. All I want are the originals on DVD and that's all I plan to watch. I've got my burns, but, like I said, how do other people get them?

It's possible that they are going to re-release the PT with covers that are similar to the OT DVD releases. Considering that TPM has been pulled off the shelves and ROTS is being released this May, this is a definite possibility.

I'm not saying it doesn't exist. But I know of plenty of "movies" (again, like you, used very loosely) that are available in other countries that are not available in the States for rental or legal purchase. This is likely to be one.

I'm not sure I wanna to put up money to purchase a copy of it if I don't even know if I'll like it. Know what I mean?

He has every right in the world to make alterations. As we've all said hundreds of times now. But we just want an official release of the original versions of the films on DVD. You are wrong about one thing. You said, "Look, you've all got the originals, either on VHS, Laserdisc, or a rip, so just put up or shut up." This is not correct. Not everyone has the originals on DVD. Not everyone has access. People on this site may have them, yes. But what about those people with little to no Web savvy? What about them, huh? How are they supposed to get them? I've got friends who are not Web users and don't plan to be but they still want the originals. I'm trying to help, but I can't get to everyone in the world who doesn't want the new version but cannot get to the originals on DVD. How would I identify them?

You're the one challenging us to put up or shut up. So why don't you help resolve the problem and come up with a comprehensive plan for distributing the OT on DVD to those throughout the world who want it. You can't, can you? That's why we need LFL. They can.
