Ironically, I love A Clockwork Orange. That was a great movie. (Kubrick's soul lays itself back to rest just short of mangling Bossk).

I'm pretty hit or miss with Kubrick. Loved Spartacus, didn't understand Dr. Strangelove, loved ACO, hated 2001, loved Full Metal Jacket, hated Eyes Wide Shut. I don't think I've seen any of his other films (and that includes The Shining... still haven't seen that... hold your gasps).

Discussion: Galactic Heroes
Time

I know there was a thread dedicated to these toys some time ago, but I couldn’t find it so here is a new one…

I was in Target a couple weeks ago and they’re selling the two packs of Galactic Heroes figures. They’ve got several series out so far with each working on a theme. They just released Bounty Hunter two packs and I, of course, found Bossk (with 4-LOM). He is so damned cool. I had to post a picture of him here…

Here are all the figures in Series 3…

I want the Jawas and Tusken Raiders.

True, but they managed a fairly decent marriage of the two in the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.

For some reason, your comments didn't load up the last time I visited this thread. Only the quotes. Now they are there.

They did do it very well in LOTR, but I think it's because Peter Jackson still tried to use real people, sets, scenery, etc. whenever possible. GL would have turned the New Zealand countryside into CG.

HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray

Actually there are more factors than just marketing. Your PC vs Mac example is only partially correct. Marketing took Apple to the top of the heap in the mid 80s. They dominated PCs and the old IBM OS. Every grade school, high school, and university computer lab was stocked with Apples and Macs.

It was an internal breakdown at Apple and good old-fashioned computer thievery (and marketing) that later booted Windows to the top over Macs. Macs came back with their niche marketing but it has expanded slowly but surely. The niche idea is still pretty prevalent but is not the only thing sustaining them.

Mac won, then lost, and is now trying to push forward.

Hey! I liked the Gamorrean Guards (sp?).

I can agree that the context is what is screwing up the CGI. I think if the CGI were used more in space and he were to actually create sets and characters like he once did, it would work a lot better. The problem with the new movies, IMHO, is that nothing is believable because it's all so intangible. It's not there and the lack of interaction between the live actors and the setting and characters around them shows as a result. None of the actors "touch" anything around them because, when filming a scene, nothing is there for them to see to be able to touch. And everything has this sterile and impersonal feel to me as a result. GL just got lazy. Plain and simple.

A message to Jay in regards to DanielB
Time
Zion's got my support. I typically avoid the preservation section simply because so much of it is way over my head. I'm not A/V techie and the only thread in here of interest to me otherwise is the DVD cover thread.

But to come in here on a whim today and read that there is somebody on the forum that people regard with even more ire than Jimbo (and I was constantly wading through the shitpool that was Jimbo and his ranting and raving), it really scares me.

Who's contacting Jay with the request?

Dayv, please tell me you guys did not actually keep that in the lost and found.
