Hard when every post is heckled on the “What didn’t you like about TFA?” thread. If you liked it, what are you posting in here for? Trying to convince yourself (and those that dislike it) it is a good film, when the reality is unfortunately, it is nothing more than a collage and pastiche, retro and supposedly nostalgic film.

I wasn’t aware disagreement was discouraged here. Since you know so much about this place, maybe you can educate me.

There are plenty of anti-TFA posts I don’t mock, because they make sense (even if I don’t agree with them). But I don’t ignore bullshit, I mock it.

Here he is the man who said “don’t bump this thread” Bullshit is subjective.

How anyone could say this was a “fan’s film” or “the fans will like it” is beyond me. They must have been referring to prequel/SE fans. I consider myself a real fan of the Out and to me Tfa was an epic fail!

Speak for yourself. I’m certainly not a SE/PT fan and i loved this film. I know many people who only like the unaltered versions, like myself, and hate the PT, but loved TFA. It certainly WAS a “fan’s film”. It brought a LOT of people back into the fandom that had given up after the SE/PT.

Also, fuck you for comparing a movie to an abortion. I don’t care if the dictionary definition technically supports your using it, it’s not right. No better than people bitching about Lucas raping anything.

Lucas raped star wars when he did the special editions and prequels they were proper abortion movies, especially the new cave they made for OB1 out of CGI, the color was all wrong. j/k

I’m not clairvoyant, it’s a term often used to describe something rubbish in the UK. I don’t know what your issue is with these words but tbh I don’t care , this is about Star wars, not YOU!

Where in the UK are you then? It’s certainly NOT a term often used to describe something rubbish anywhere i have lived in the UK.

You haven’t lived in the north then 😉

They did introduce new characters and there was no way they were making a sequel trilogy that omitted all the characters from the OT. Why even bother making an episode VII if it isn’t going to have any relation to the previous installments?

I can only imagine the complaints in this thread if there were no old characters.

Agreed…I was most pleased at their appearances…one of the few things I actually enjoyed… 😉

I only enjoyed hearing the opening score and Luke’s theme again in a Cinema, all be it the latter supporting the wrong character? Surely it would have been a better finish to the film if we had heard Luke’s theme when he was finally shown on screen and had him do some pensive stare over the cliffs with rey stood behind, not her holding out the light sabre for ten minutes.

An OT “junky” who referred to Obi’s hut as a cave? Interesting.

Sad you had to pick up on that, his house then FFS

It’s called “paying attention,” which I know is hard to do in this thread.

And everyone should yield to your shite posts, for the record it’s called a film, not a movie.

If there were no old characters and the film was good as I had been told by the media, non Star wars Fans and the like I would be happy. I was astounded at the lack of originality, people slate Jedi as a ANH clone, at least it was a good effort in comparison to this abortion.

I don’t see how the story makes the OT unimportant. Did you think that there weren’t ever going to be any more bad guys in the universe after the Emperor died? Wasn’t the idea of some sort of an Imperial Remnant already thought of in the EU anyways? It seemed logical to me then and still does in TFA.

It didn’t require any of the original cast, in fact it would have been better without them in it to create more interest in the back stories of the ‘new’ characters all be it the Force strong characters had to be related but we didn’t need that spelling out in the first act. People who say it’s not a rehash of the OT are blind. The female version of Luke ‘Rey’, the Vader rip off ‘Ren’, palpatine clone ‘Snoke’ even an R2 rip off, BB8. Finn could even pass as a new Han? Bringing Chewie back (who seemingly hasn’t aged at all, they could have made his fur grey or something, anything) is purely to sell more bloody shit. Concentrate on depth of script/direction instead of Box Office takings and merchandise, which is why I assume the re-designed storm troopers? Rant off, I could go on for hours just how wrong this disappointing film was for an OT junky .

Sorry you felt that way and I hope you enjoy the film one day, but funny thing is that a decent amount of people were pissed when they left ESB due to having so many things left up in the air. Not saying TFA is on par but just wanted to note that.

Well thank you for being a good sport and not forcing me to change my viewpoints. 😃

As for the Maz explaining the lightsaber, maybe not when the castle was being destroyed, but just somewhere. It should’ve been explained at some point in the story.

And it probably still will be explained in one of the next two movies. If it isn’t, then I will readily agree it was lazy writing.

To be honest who actually cares how she got it. What relevance did it have anyway? How did Luke train Jedi without a light sabre? Presumably he had another? So why he would need his old one back is beyond me. Again another ANH rip off, OBI1 had Anakin’s light sabre. He even tell’s Luke “it’s your father’s light sabre”. so Vader presumably had acquired another. Even the box containing it in OB1’s cave is copied in TFA.

What new boundaries would you have liked to have seen broken by TFA?

I’m not a good fanfiction writer or anything along those lines, but I wanted something entirely new. New characters, a COMPLETELY different story, and so on. I don’t want to see more of the stormtroopers, the TIE fighters, and the empire (FIRST ORDER). I want to see something new. That story arc with the Empire was finished. It was over and one with, which is what made Return of the Jedi special. The new movie kinda nullifies or ruins the original trilogy by making it seem like it’s not important.

Well written and echoes my thoughts exactly, I was writing my reply at the time of your post.

By breaking boundaries I mean a move away from both the prequels and the OT, did they really need to drag up old characters and rehash a story that’s already been told? They had an opportunity to rectify the prequel shite and create a completely fresh narrative, concept, introduce new characters with interesting back stories/dialogue. They should have looked closer at the OT if they wanted to regurgitate it and they should have paid more attention as to how the OT dealt with the background and foreground in terms of mis en scene. How it created atmosphere, evoked emotion through themes, which is what helped create the myth and magic of the OT, especially in ESB. I’m seriously starting to think the Henson effect played a huge part in helping create this, as this magic is present in both the Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, but completely missing from the prequels and TFA.

“Complete his training” is relative. If he’s already enough of a badass to freeze someone in mid-air with his mind at will,

It could be that little trick wasn’t even a Force power.
Maybe it was a piece of technology that created a "stasis shield " around an energie beam.

Maybe is was a glitch in the edit, nope it was just as ridiculous as the rest of the film. I just got over prequelitis, now suffering severe sequelitis.

I consider myself a real fan of the Out and to me Tfa was an epic fail! As someone has already said the Ot are all individual films in there own right, star wars anh being one of the best Sci Fi films ever made. Such a groundbreaking film, tfa broke no new boundaries, just another forgettable effort with one goal, mass franchise, o noticed Disneyland now has all your favourite characters, guess what most of them are from the Ot!

I watched jedi today just to compare what is deemed to be the worst of the OT to tfa and it is by far a better film, I hasten to add I watched the uot version. What is clear is that luke stokes a decent fire for Vader’s burial, there was no imperial troops at the celebrations so who pulled his molten helmet seemingly with remainder of his burnt skull within from the inferno. My seven year old gave comment she said if leia isba princess why isn’t luke a prince? She has a valid point haha

I’m probably the biggest Dark Crystal fan around here, and I can say without hesitation George had no involvement with the script. Henson’s people did help out a bit with Yoda on Empire, as DC was years in pre production, and it was mutually beneficial to both parties. Lucas even tried to replicate Henson’s Creature Shop at ILM for ROTJ, with mixed results.

ILM did the matte paintings for DC, but that’s about it for any Lucas connection.

I welcome you to provide evidence to the contrary.

ILM was George lucas’s company and they had direct involvement

Yes he is behind some brilliant fantasy/adventure films, Indiana Jones, labyrinth, the dark crystal, dare I say willow.

You’re getting Lucas mixed up with Gary Kurtz for Dark Crystal. George wasn’t involved in that film.

He produced it with him as he did numerous films

No, he didn’t. Kurtz produced it with Henson. George had nothing to do with it. He was busy with ROTJ at the time

Okay… He was one of the main writers, so he did help produce the film.

I’m not sure if you’re just trolling now. The writers were Jim Henson ( story) and David Odell (screenplay). Again, George had NOTHING to do with Dark Crystal.

I’m not trolling he helped with the screenplay, I’m sure.
