What didn't you like about TFA? <em>SPOILERS</em>

As much as I loved the movie, one thing felt odd.

The music isn’t that memorable, maybe it’s because I’ve only seen the film once so far but eh. I can remember Rey’s theme and that’s it, even the prequels soundtrack was more memorable and I find myself humming it once in a while.

I’m not saying the music was bad, but it isn’t memorable to me. I may end up loving and remembering it when I see it again and when I buy the soundtrack.

It was by far the weakest and confused as Rey had her own theme and Luke’s, it’s been said that JJ interfered with JW’s magic making and tbh a lot of it doesn’t appear to be his work?

The saber ending on Jakku seems less likely than ending up in the hands of a barkeep. Maz gets a lot of strangers from all corners of the galaxy passing through her establishment. Someone could have sold her the saber, if only to pay off their tab.

and put it in a very similar box to that what OB1 had in his ‘cave’. I think I actually preferred the leaked idea that the opening shot was a light saber spinning in space and then landing in Jakku (Superman), where Rey is scavenging and notices the impact and goes to investigate.

I think it would have been a better idea to have Rey find the saber whilst scavenging junk, rather than the Maz scene which was purely a device to bring a saber into the narrative, Maz giving Rey the magical gift (transference).

Agree that would be better, but still too convenient. Even better would be that Rey finds a lightsaber while scavenging. Not Luke’s.

Yes that’s what I meant, not Luke’s it’s too far fetched and as I said above irrelevant because Luke has a new shiny one in Jedi. In fact I don’t think there should have been a light saber in her hands at all, it could have been another anh rip off for part 2 where Luke could have given her his after training her how to use the force/light saber …oh wait that’s already been done, lets just make her able to do all that from the off.

So the lightsaber being found on Bespin and then sold, going from one owner to another until someone close to the Jedi acquires it is too far fetched? It going from Bespin to Jakku without anyone being interested in it at all would be an even bigger plot convienence than anything in the actual movie.

Rey isn’t a Jedi plus as i have already said Luke has bought a new saber from the shop for Jedi so why would he actually give a fuck about his old one that he assumes is lost.

If the tunnels intention was to throw everything out, why didn’t it end at the bottom of Cloud City? Why was it necessary to have another tunnel in the wall that opens conditionally? We don’t even know what triggered the hatch to open, was it Luke’s weight or was it just bad timing (just like it was bad timing that the trash compactor starts with our heros inside)?

A lot of discussion to skirt around the obvious: That Maz having Luke’s original lightsaber is silly.

I think it would have been a better idea to have Rey find the saber whilst scavenging junk, rather than the Maz scene which was purely a device to bring a saber into the narrative, Maz giving Rey the magical gift (transference).

Well, even adjusted for inflation, TFA has by far overtaken AOTC and ROTS and is only slightly behind TPM, which had 15 years and a rerelease in 3D. And yes, you can’t always measure quality by profit, but it’s usually a rather good indication.

Jurassic world did well, that’s a great film…

Or decent marketing strategy, I know why they didn’t show much on the trailers now.

The fundamental flaw with tfa is that it was rushed. From the moment Disney purchased I bet the pressure was on to get a film out ASAP and it shows.

I don’t think that was the main cause. I think they had to make something that would work for sure since it was their first product. The played it safe, went with proven concepts and rehashed stuff from OT. Actually, I expect more from stand-alone films since they will be able to experiment more. We will see.

And some how even though they had a blue print of how to make a good film, they still managed to fuck it up royally

So the blue print how to make a good movie is the OT? And they “fucked it up royally” by following the plot of Star Wars too closely? I know it has been said before, but I say it again: You don’t make any sense at all.

And how is 1.5 billion $ in 3 weeks a “royal fuck up”?

Numerous crap films make lots of money at the box office, this has no relation to the structure of this film. They fucked it up by trying to pay homage to the OT, all they had to do is look at what constitutes a ‘good’ star wars film and write a new script with a different plot but no lets rehash anh and introduce a few empty characters.

An OT “junky” who referred to Obi’s hut as a cave? Interesting.

It is never named in the film. So for a purist cave, hut or house is all the same. I actually like cave. It is kinda romantic. 😃

http://www.starwars.com/databank/obi-wan-s-house

In the film…

Regardless of whether or not it’s named within the film, in both the OUT and the SE it’s clearly an artificial structure, not a cave.

Ffs the cave comment was beacuse the inside resembles a cave, not because he lives in one.

Your logic in this thread resembles logic in your head, not because it is logic to anyone else.

No Frink sorry, it’s just you.

Even the shitty prequels showed Younglings practicing with sabres

That’s one of the reasons why they are shitty. Therefore, they shouldn’t be taken into account, as they contradict the OT.

And tfa doesn’t? They’re trying to return a lost light sabre to luke, when he’s already replaced it in jedi. Hopefully he will say to rey I’ve already got one so you keep that one.

I thought they were just trying to find him. As were the bad guys.

Why is there so much emphasis on returning his lost sabre? She holds it out to him for what seems like ages at the end.

I took that to mean “please train me”?

Seems more like heres’ your light sabre now sort The first order out.

Alone the implication that you need a light sabre to train Jedi shows how little you understand about the force.

Why is there so much emphasis on it in tfa then, it’s obviously important to the narrative. I understand how the force works but it’s a jedi’s weapon of choice, how else would they learn how to use it? luke practiced in anh. oh I forgot if your rey you’re instantly sabre and force ready. I wonder why leia never wielded one.

Are you actually serious?

The droid factory scene in AOTC was genius compared to nothing. That whole film stinks, and that scene in particular was insanely bad.

Anyway, here’s the old Return of the Jedi posts from 1983…,

http://cinetropolis.net/return-of-the-jedi-and-the-forum-that-time-forgot/

That’s a good review in comparison to some TFA scrutiny.

I honestly can’t believe that anybody claiming to be a Star Wars fan could genuinely think that AOTC or any of the prequels is better than TFA.

I would rather watch the Rathtar scene from TFA on repeat for two hours than have to sit through one viewing of the droid factory scene where CGI threepio get his head stuck on a battle droid.

That was genius in comparison to replicating an entire film.
