Superman I-III extended TV cuts & Info - Where have the Preservations gone? (Released)
Time

A couple friends have tentacles out for the BDs of Superman II and Superman II RDC. I’ll see what I can do.

If I am able to do it, I will do it in two forms:

  • A full length cut, at 720x540, using as much restored footage as possible (cropped to 4:3).
  • A shorter cut, at 1280x540 (possibly also at a higher resolution), with only the restored footage.

No guarantees.

I might be able to save you a job. I’ve imported the RIC into Premiere and have been laying over all the BD footage where available. I’m almost done, I’m up to the end scene with Superman about to crush Zod’s hand. Once finished I’m going to go through and write a complete list of all unavailable footage and alternate takes. There isn’t that much missing that’s good. Lots of filler like the guy dicking around with his camera at Niagara, and the weird people watching TV around the world. Some shots I think could be composited from available footage in the manner I did with breakup scene, adding in RIC footage with that from the bluray. I’ll update when I have the list together, but I don’t mind putting together the 2 versions you mentioned, as I have all of the footage there ripped and ready to go.

Dungeons & Dragons Requiem - my attempt on creating the final episode... (Released)

I think what you have achieved is really great, it must have taken ages. I have to ask though, why change the aspect ratio at all? If you’re making the last episode of the series, wouldn’t it make sense for it to match with the rest of the episodes?

Also, did you ever complete your Superman Crystal Cut?

Here’s the clip Tack is referring to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJD3ZKuLEhU

Some creative license taken for shots that were pretty much impossible to use, but the closest I could get with the footage available. A widescreen version of the RIC would be a lot of work and some stuff is just not going to be possible to recreate. A 4:3 version with available footage replaced in the best quality would be much more feasible.

I wonder how much of the RIC can be upgraded with the materials we have, keeping in mind that some of the footage common to the Donner Cut and the RIC is processed differently between the two (something I learned during a previous attempt many years ago).

I’d say a fair amount of it, picture wise anyway. Some stuff obviously has never made it to widescreen release, but a 4:3 composite of official sources mixed with VHS stuff would be a welcomed upgrade. All the deleted scenes on the bluray plus these new scenes is the bulk of it. There’s some alternate angles and a load of padding that would have to be from VHS/ RIC DVD. The audio would be the tricky bit. Scenes set to different music, and alternate line readings that are only available on the VHS. Without the original sources to go from, we would be stuck with the bitrate of the DVD of the RIC.

Altering the functionality of a Bluray menu button.
Time

I wonder if anyone knows how I can change the functionality of buttons within a bluray menu?

I have created a bluray menu in Encore, only to come up against the hurdle of being allowed 8 audio tracks maximum. I know I can add additional tracks after the bluray is compiled, which I can navigate to with the audio selection button on the remote, but they will have no means of selection from the menu.

I want to be able to add buttons for the extra audio tracks to the menu, and link them to one of the 8 that I am allowed in Encore as a placeholder. Then add the additional audio tracks after the disc is compiled. After this, I want to redirect the buttons to the newly added audio tracks.

I’m not sure if this is possible. I know how to alter the appearance of buttons with bdedit, but not what they do.

If you can help, please chime in, I would really appreciate it.

Booshman, after seeing what you've done, I'm putting my project completely on hold. You're going far beyond what I was capable of. I would strongly recommend you go lossless for the audio, if at all possible, though.

Hey, I only just saw this message today. Sorry to hear you're cancelling your project. Hope my edit will make it worth it in the end. As Tyler has stated,  I have just released a recolored edition of Superman IV, and have III on the way. After that I will be back to it. The audio, as for all of my HD edits will be DTS-HD MA.

if this laserdisc is actually open matte and not pan&scan, it could be used for this project...

Like Superman 1-3, Quest for Peace was shot anamorphic and not Super35, so therefore all 4:3 versions are pan and scan.

Which brings me to another question, was there a Japanese or Asian DVD of the IC released over there? Depending if WB does not own the Asian rights and if another company does, it might worth looking into.

I remember the DVD's for 3&4 took a long while to come out even though 1&2 had been released. Then when they did, 4 was the US version. Looking at the Chinese and Japanese DVD's,  the artwork is consistent with the initial DVD release. Their runtimes show they are the same as the US cut, so it would appear the Japanese LD is the only release with the extra scenes in their proper aspect ratio.

Just downloaded Booshman's International cut preservation from the 'Spleen.

Excellent work on integrating the LD footage into the cut! There's no mistaking it for the HD footage surrounding it, but I don't think theres more that could be done.

The colour-correction and the isolated score were a welcome bonus too.

Thanks for doing this.

Your welcome! I forgot there was a thread on here too and didn't update about the release, so cheers for the reminder.

Amadeus - Laserdisc+DVD Audio Tracks for 4K (formerly Theatrical Cut Restoration)

Thanks for handling the requests, stretch.

I'm going ahead and finalizing version 2, and will be uploading it hopefully within the next week.

Version 2 will be nearly frame accurate to the DVD version, and will include the 5.1 mix from the DVD and the isolated score mix from the DVD.  I will make sure for those who asked that it be BD-compatible, and small enough to fit on a BD-25.

If I get the laserdisc audio, then I will make a synced audio track available separately for anyone to mux themselves.  Thanks for your patience.

Awesome news! I held off on V1 in anticipation of this one. Please PM when it's available.

Info: Our projects released thread
Time

Dark Jedi, I have both of your Terminator releases and I'm in the process of downlading The Never Ending Story. I was wondering if you will be adding your Conan releases to blu torrents, I missed them on Myspleen. Apologies if this has been asked before, I've had a look through the thread but I couldn't find out why it was taken off the spleen or if it would be in BT at any point. Thaks for all the work you do.

Dangerous Minds - 1995 - 1080p BD-25 project (* unfinished project *)
Time

Hi,

I have 720P HDTV rips of Superman II and III that I am looking to upgrade to 1080i. They were previously available on usenet but they are gone now. Any chance you could check the private tracker you are using and give me a shout if they have these movies? I'm looking to preserve the pre-bluray versions in the best quality, thanks.
