It’s looking damn impressive Nev, can’t wait to see Han’s face post-operation@

- Lloyd almost getting hit buy a car while walking into the convenience store (apparently aired on TBS, but never remember seeing it. Replaces scene of Lloyd leaving store swinging restroom key around)
What is this scene? I’ve never seen mentions of it and can’t find it anywhere online
What’s the idea? Rotate the whole frame?
Section 3 is looking good, and I can’t notice any flaws. From memory, I think there was another audio change in TPM, as the senate chanting was changed from “Vote now!” to incoherent yelling. I think this was a DVD change, but I’m not 100% sure as it could of been a BR change.
Otherwise, I haven’t noticed any technical or factual errors, it’s looking good!
Other than the Episode III clip with Dooku, I’ve never heard of anything showing up. There’s the battle droid line in Trivial Pursuit too.
Any updates on this? Clips look good so far.
This edit should be released this coming Monday as everything is pretty much set in stone.
Here’s a fun little bonus featuring some excerpts from the commentary track, with George, Ben Burtt and Rob Coleman talking about deleted scenes, with some added relevent visuals.
Here’s what Ridley was able to do, there’s just one shot that needs something done about it but it’s otherwise great.

I’m amazed how good that compositing looks, especially since its all B/W to begin with.
The colours also look great and natural. I hope to see this scene completed soon hopefully!
WOW that looks incredible. Did Zig’s 35mm scan come out already or did someone else get their hands on a print? Either way I’m hard. I haven’t watched this film proper in ages with the exception of the version I got from you almost a year ago. I’m in eager anticipation of this. Keep up the good work my dude, TPM deserves more love from the fan restoration community.
Puppet Yoda this time around or CGI?
Zig’s 35mm scan hasn’t come out yet, this is a seperate scan that’s been done by different people.
I still don’t love the film, I think its a boring mess of crap but I think it’s important that it’s preserved in some fashion.
CG Yoda still for this project, cleaning up the Puppet Yoda will take a lot more time.
Speaking of cleanup, here’s a comparison with the first 4 35mm shots
Work has restarted on this as I now have a 35mm scan of the theatrical cut, and am now using it as a source instead of the HDTV version. I’ve cut the 2019 Blu-Ray to line it up with ZigZig’s laserdisc, and am using the 35mm scan to fill the gaps, of which there are 9.
Here’s a look at a bit of the work I’ve done on the 35mm, trying to make it look a little closer to the Blu-Ray, but of course there’s still some grain and scratches that prevail since this is the raw scan with no cleanup.
Top is the raw scan, then my colour/cleanup, and then the Blu-Ray.
Here’s the clip in motion
So with everything you’ve learnt with that deleted scene in removing timestamps do you think you will ever tackle the Finn and Phasma fight scene from TLJ?
This is the best the scene can be for now, as there is missing footage from the start of the scene that makes continuity tricky, as well as the unfinished VFX towards the end
I’m echoing the sentiments about how important the Phasma scene is, and how great your cleanup of it looks. Unless I’ve missed it somewhere, what’s left to be done on that scene before it’s ready for inclusion?
The unfinished VFX leaves a lot to be desired. The only thing that doesn’t work is the transition into and out of the scene as there is some footage missing on either side.
Colour work and tracking marker removal is pretty much done though.
Here’s the last cut of the scene that I worked on. This is how it stands at the moment in my Workprint of the film.
I got curious about how cropped the Falcon cockpit shots really were since I knew they were about 9% smaller on subsequent releases, so I compared the most recent Blu-Ray to the raw footage from the “Celebrating 40 Years of Empire” video and my god. There’s more image left out than there was left in.
George must’ve really hated how open they made that little set.
Here’s how it could of looked, cropped to 2.35:1. A little more spacious, but not overly.
I just love how you extend these movies! Looking forward to this!
I hope one day you’ll take on ANH. I know there’s a lot of black and footage but I hope you wouldn’t let that hinder you from incorporating it in too!
I definitely am going to look into doing an extended/lost cut of the original Star Wars after this. I’ve collected up all the unused footage in my Star Wars: Leftovers project, so everything is basically ready to go.
Work on the TPM edit has just about finished as I’ve recut the Podrace grid sequence to be mostly true HD footage now. Expect a recent soon-ish…
Here’s the extended podrace, combining the DVD and Blu-Ray versions to create the longest possible
I’ve now gone in and redone all of the sound for the extended duel clip, which was a pain but it turned out great
Overall, I just need to go back and fix up the audio integrating the deleted scenes and the edit should be nearing completion
Here’s a few new seconds of footage during the battle over Naboo. A vulture droid shoots down an N-1 fighter. The spinning fighter was included in many trailers, sometimes with or without flames.
(I figured out how to make gifs into links too!)
I had a closer look at the scene, trying to cut it in and honestly it’s not terrible but it’s clear that the scene isn’t all there. The colours are a real pain in the ass to get to match the final film though.
I also used the theatrical audio from ZigZig’s laserdisc, as the chanting “VOTE NOW” works a lot better in the scene than the revised DVD incorherent yelling.
Here is the scene in it’s current form.
This is the extended Coruscant establishing scene with an extended shot from the DVD Deleted Scenes, and a new shot of Palpatine’s office from the Theatrical Shot, borrowed from a recent 35mm scan. The next shot of Anakin and Jar Jar is also from that scan.
Another addition to my own Expanded Series of films, as I tackle the first of the Prequel films.
There’s still a few additional shots of the Naboo fighters I haven’t had the chance to look at how they’d fit in, including the spinning fighter. If there is anything else I have forgotten, please do let me know.
Scenes to be included in a workprint
The only thing I don’t think I’d include in a workprint is the Bail Antillies/Organa scene since it confuses things a little with Jimmy Smits.
Current runtime is 2:22:36 compared to the Blu-Ray’s 2:16:11. I still need to look over the Extended DVD Lap 2 compared to the Blu-Ray and work on combining them in someway as it’s a big mess of what goes where. So the runtime will probably be longer by a minute or 2.
CLIPS
Here’s the extra Duel shots, taken from the Deleted Scenes documentary on the DVD and upscaled to HD. The score used is not final as I can’t quite get the right section of the track to line up, as well as the Lightsaber SFX not being there.
Very cool! Link please! 😄
Also as always, please send me a message instead of posting in the thread.
- Adding on to re-watching ESB:R, I’ve also noticed that the video format/dimensions were 2.35:1.
CinemaScope Format, a real win for me (I’ve grown to like that format). Will that remain in the
upscale of ESB:R, ANH:RHD, and ROTJ:R?
The aspect ratio has now been changed to 4:3 to suit George’s original intended vision
I’ve just finished uploading the entire docu-series to Youtube, as I’ve now finished the whole project. Also I don’t think I mentioned I settled on “DUELING WITH FATE” as a final title.
Final runtime, is 4hr 58min (including the unused footage epilogue)
I’m happy to render this out as one full file, or in parts and upload it elsewhere if anyone wants it that way.
I’ve gone back and made a minor update to the project, adding a few things I had forgotten from The Making of Star Wars. I’m using willarob’s HD Upscale since it looks arguably better than the 2 16mm scans that have been done. The post-credits scene from Empire of Dreams has been added too “may the force go with you” as I had forgotten it existed.
An alternate audio track has been created too, with no added score in places, so for scenes with no production sound, it will now be silent. The default track still includes John Williams in these silent areas though.
The same link will now work with the updated version.
Also as always, please send me a message instead of posting in the thread.
Here’s just a few bits and pieces that I couldn’t fit in anywhere else from the sources I was using. There is still so much more footage out there though through interviews that sadly can’t go through. Hopefully roughly 5 hours is thorugh enough though.

Also, does anyone have title suggestions? I was considering Dueling with Fate, or something to that effect. Something reminicent of Falling Into Darkness: The Making of Episode III would be good.
Anyone still keeping tabs on this?
Anywho, here’s the last part of the series, all about the hype and anticipation around the film’s release
I still plan to collect up some of the unusued clips from here and there and collate them into somewhat of a bonus video, but for now I need to go back through and polish anything. The final total runtime is 4hrs and 39mins. Hopefully this is indepth enough for all you TPM Fans out there.
