Perhaps the "Luke and Leia" theme could play when Luke contacts Leia from under Cloud City, in place of the Force Theme. Of course, the original music could "bleed" through under the new music, so... I'm not altogether sure about this. It could work, but still...

That scene as it is with the force theme going is so powerful, I don't think it's a good idea to change it.

(but I guess I'd have to take a look at that with different music first to be 100% sure of my opinion)

I have been trying to rip that scene from the DVD and it turns out it is much more difficult than I originally anticipated. Too bad about the HD, will this in any way speed up the process since it is no longer HD or will it be about the same amount of time.

When I ripped that last night (here's the link again in case it was missed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etaA9xWsjbU ) I used DVD Shrink to grab it off the DVD and then Nero Vision to convert it for youtubing. MPEG Streamclip is a handy free converter tool also. Although I didn't grab the Falcon from the Special Features disc that you mentioned (but now that I think of it, that could be used If Adywan needs some good Falcon-maneuvering elements)

By the way, I agree that standard def is just fine. With my Revisited DVD's on my shelf, Lucasfilm will still have to work pretty hard to get me to buy the official Bluray discs when they finally do come out.

my point is, if you're going to show off something in High Definition on a TV made

for that purpose, it's better to show them something from a High Definition source,

and compare it to regular TV....

Adywan said he has no plans to redo ANHR in HD at this time after all the trouble it took to get the current version out there. There will be the colour corrected HD version of the SE of course, but HD or not, it's more fun to show off  the Revisited version.

I think teharri's point was that he was trying to spread awareness about 'Revisited.' It didn't sound like he was specifically trying to use it to sell HDTV's.

If I remember correctly, one of the asteroids actually IS a potato (although its one of the smaller background ones I believe.)

"You're not actually going INTO a potato field?!"

That being said, the appearance of the asteroids looks great to me, it just needs color correcting like the rest of the movie does.

And as for Boba Fett, he's not the guy with the Hummer H2 who's all talk and shiny things, he's a bloody Mad Max with the beat up jalopy that gets the job done!

That Vader Hologram does ned fixing. That was some bad bluescreen work. But there are no other shots of Vader from that angle that i could use. The only way i could do it is if someone here knows someone with an authentic Vader costume that could film some new footage, at the exact same angle and doing the same movements, that i could use for the hologram

This picture is about the right angle, isn't it?

I think this would fit perfectly if we could get someone to re-enact this to use as a hologram. :)

Triple post! Anyone wanna put it back up on the Noid, or at least refer me to where I can find the old one?

I found this set recently at mininova
http://www.mininova.org/tor/1327265
http://www.mininova.org/tor/1327262
http://www.mininova.org/tor/1327260

Took me about a week, but I got ANH and ROTJ, and almost all of ESB. It seems stuck at 98% at the moment.

Agreed.
I think that, being that their hyperdrive was out (this was obvious to everyone since they had not escaped yet) and it would be unwise to try getting too far without it, it would be a simple matter for Fett to calculate their trajectory and determine which of the nearby systems the Falcon was heading for.
Then he contacts the Empire and everyone hyperspaces over there to arrive first.

Hi Ady, nice to see this DVD-9 finally done! Btw I saw you managed to put back the dutch subtitles, whatever happened to the french ones?

That reminds me. Has anyone else watched the DVD-9 with the changes & trivia subtitles? All the typos seem fixed, but the credits seem to be ever so slightly different than on the DVD-5 because a subtitle comes up saying "That's me!" underneath Harrison Ford's name, whereas on the DVD-5 it came up under Adywan's name.
Just a heads up there, I certainly wouldn't expect Adywan to go back and redo anything else after all this work. (especially for something so minor)

And speaking of subtitles, the ONLY thing that I think could have made this DVD better is if the movie had been translated to another language and then back to English to make a "Backstroke of the West" style sub track. Bad translations amuse me to no end :)

I like the suggestion of shortening Luke's arm to reduce the obviousness that Mark's hand is still there, plus it seems feasible in terms of effects...

I hadn't even thought of that. Good idea. (although I think Luke's arm isn't as bad an offender as in Jedi where we can see Vader's wrist bend after his hand is lopped off)

Any attempt to add more ground troops and such to Hoth will be awesome too, but even if all you do is fix continuity/technical goofs and color correction, that's really all it needs in my opinion. But you must do what you feel is right, of course.
I have nothing but the greatest faith in your abilities and judgment.

After all this is what your exasperation results in, and you alone have seen the true facts of pure hero's ground. (I'll give you a nickel if you can tell me where that last line came from :)

Is that bad that Lucas is reminding me of a Monty Python sketch?

It would be funny if it weren't for the fact that this is a classic that is considered by many (and not just Star Wars geeks) to be one of the greatest movies ever made, and yet we can't get a decent version on DVD that doesn't make us feel dirty for having paid for it.

We need Tim the Enchanter to "light a fire" under Lucasfilm to do the Blu-Ray version justice.

And speaking of Blu-Ray, it'll be a few years yet before DVD starts to die out, but are you going to do this one all in hi-def now that it's out there and just down-convert to make a DVD version, Adywan? (that way if Lucasfilm does drop the ball, we'll still have a hi-def version of ESB:R when the time comes)

Oh, can you also put Leia in the gold bikini somewhere on Hoth? and in the asteroid field? and on Bespin? and on the medical ship? and during the credits?

Is there any way to go back to ANHR and have her in the gold bikini and showing just exactly what a mind PROBE really does??? Can you somehow insert a pole for her to dance on too?

These ideas would certainly help the story along.

I agree. That would definately... uh, help the, uh... story. Definitely. Yes.

ignore this post if it is too wild, but do you think the hoth battle would be more intense in a snow storm? would that be too difficult and outlandish to do?

That's an awesome idea. I wonder how hard that would be to do without it looking fake. Battles are always more intense in crappy weather.

do i need a dual layer disc to record this dvd-9?
I have just gotten a dual layer burner and thought that would work. The dvd's I am using now are DVD+R 16x 4.7GB

Yes, you'll need a dual layer disc
(unless you use something like DVD Shrink to compress it, but then that would defeat the purpose of getting the DVD-9 version in the first place :)

Indeed.

Are there any audio issues in this one like ANH? I haven't heard of anything screwed up (aside from the deliberate things like Boba Fett, etc) and I haven't noticed anything myself, but I don't have surround sound so any issues like swapped channels and such aren't as apparent with my setup.
Hopefully the audio side of things will be easier this time around.
