The Empire Strikes Back "1980 Theatrical version" Reconstruction - Adywan (Released)
Time

I've been so inactive that I forgot I'd ever registered there but my account was left alone. Weak sauce indeed.

I'm still downloading; hopefully it'll finish within the day. Once Revisited comes I'll have to either look a little more into newsgroups or fork over the little bit for a premium Rapidshare account, but I'm too lazy for one and too broke for the other at the moment :P

But Jdownloader is at least making it bearable.

Heh, I'd forgotten all about Leia shooting the Stormtrooper in the crotch. She is vicious!

(it's around the 55 sec mark on this video for those who hadn't noticed it before)

Great work btw! And thanks again for the theatrical reconstruction to tide me over until this is done. You are too generous, sir.

I thought it would lend more credibility to the scene if we actually saw or at least heard why it wasn't friendly. I mean if someone introduced you to someone on the phone and then said I dont think he's very nice but gave no reason for not being nice wouldnt you be curious as to why that person isnt nice?

Watch that scene again and think how cool it would be to at least hear laser blasts, yells, static, then "it isnt friendly whatever it is".

I think it's perfectly logical as is. They're hiding from the Empire, and their lives may well depend on staying hidden, therefore any signs of technology or life on Hoth must be assumed a threat and treated as such until proven otherwise.

It's more like if your ex-girlfriend is chasing you with an axe, and you run to a friend's house to hide out for a while. Suddenly your friend comes into the room saying "hey, some chick called asking for you" and he hands you the phone. Your first reaction would likely be to think she's not friendly, whoever she is. (hopefully that makes sense and I'm not just crazy)

Blagh, shakycam.

It can help create the right mood and add tension if used sparingly and responsibly, but in newer movies and TV shows it's my biggest pet peeve (even more than the overuse of washed out color palettes)

The camera doesn't need to shake all the time. Let me look at what's on screen for a second or two, please! Does the cameraman have Parkinson's? Are you trying to give people headaches? Why does the sun come up?

That being said, I can't wait for the anniversary ESB:R clip. Just don't show us too much, because I have no self control and will look at anything thrown in my lap. Not that I need to worry, I think Adywan's been proven responsible when it comes to trailers and clips.

Indeed, all the females of the universe would mourn the loss of such a smooth operator.

But I think even the "Two fighters against a star destroyer?" line pales in comparison to the delivery of ROTJ's "Copy, gold leader."

The only line in ESB I'd consider changing is the obvious one that's already being taken care of: the old "Alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival"

The delivery of the line is so... bland, though.

She could be exhausted physically/mentally after all they've been through. They've suffered devastating losses and it seems natural to me that she might seem quieter and not take the OMFG! approach in that situation. The lioness has been made to feel like a mouse by the Empire.

Anyways, theres a shot that i would have liked to have seen in Empire, after at at captain says "Lord Vader, you may start your landing" we never see Vaders ship land on Hoth. Now, in the prequels, which have their flaws, i love the hardware in them, especially the gunships. So, i was considering scratch building an Imperial gunship of my own design. If you would be interested in including a shot of it lanfing on Hoth, wit vader anf a few troops standing in its doorway, i could film it against a bluescreen and send you the footage to play around with.

I would be making it in scale for the 5inch action figures, and animate it stop motion as a very quick shot.

I can imagine that being hilariously awful, but based on the youtube video I think you could do it reasonably well. Certainly better than my own stop-motion attempts (look up Mas Electrico on youtube if you must see... it's pretty bad, but in my defense it was made 8 years ago and I've learned a lot since then)

I don't think the shot is needed, but I for one would be very interested to see what you'd come up with. If nothing else it would be a cool DVD extra that people could edit into the movie themselves if they felt so inclined.

I loved the new "Greedo shoots first, second, third, fourth, and so on" scene!

It lets us as viewers know that Han is so soft-hearted, he only resorts to violence long after a normal person without such a hard working guardian angel would be pulverized! (and I think we can all agree that's what Lucas had really intended from the beginning; he just didn't have the technology available to make Greedo miss at point blank range in the 70's)

Personally I think it would be a little too convenient for Luke's hand/lightsaber to be falling down the same shaft he does, not to mention at about the same time even though there must've been at least a minute between it being cut off and Luke jumping.

Then again, if the outer door hadn't opened in between, they would have both fallen out at the same time. We don't know how often the thing takes a dump ;)

I think this is a perfect opportunity for Adywan's hand to make another cameo.

Adywan's hand could be the new Wilhelm, showing up at least once in each film!  Or even worse... kind of follow the action around like the fake hand in the beginning of Mystery Men...

I think the most important question is how time consuming and difficult the effect of the little bit of color bouncing off the walls would be to recreate, and whether or not it would be worth it for such a slight effect.

If it's easy and not too straining, that would be a welcome addition; however, if it's too much of a pain then I wouldn't miss it if it's not there.

And Ric, I'm counting on you to let us know when those rebels reappear.

Well Mr. Adywan, if your devotion to your family is half that of what you've put towards the ESB project so far, they're in good hands. I hope all is well.

This might be a bit unnecessary, but I never liked how Luke added in "Go, Dak!" after telling him to do "Attack pattern Delta"...

The line is "Attack pattern Delta, go now!"

Funny, I could swear he says "Attack pattern Delta, gonads!"
