Like Kirby? :p

Unfortunately I was unable to accurately reproduce Yoda with the technology available to me at the time. Thankfully, I was able to go back and do it again properly in a Special Edition.

<(-_-)>

I'm guessing he'll look better still in the Revisited version.

I've wondered about that. In the end of ESB it clearly sounds like they don't know where Jabba is. The mention of Tatooine there confuses the matter slightly, but nobody asks why Lando is wearing Han's clothes, except in Family Guy.

Lando had just evacuated Cloud City. He left his wardrobe behind. That's obviously Han's spare clothes that were haning in the Falcon's closet.

No, No, No, No!

They are Lando's clothes. When Han won the falcon in that sabacc game, he also won the clothes of Lando's back.

Lando walked away from the sabacc table completely bollock naked. That's why he's less than pleased to see Han on Cloud City.

Lando's just taking back what's his.

It's all in EU people.

Or maybe I might have made it all up!

"Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival." What was the point?
Time

When I first heard the line back in 1997 I immediately thought it was someone else doing Vader's voice for that line. My opinion hasn't changed in the last 12 years, even after hearing Burtt say it was unused dialogue from Star Wars.

It sounds nothing like James Earl Jones.

Vader's voice and Luke's scream are what upset me the most about the Special Editions

First of all, my condolences to you and your family adywan. Having lost someone myself several years back, I know how bad it can be and my thoughts go out to you.

Now the extra 3PO line that's been mentioned will be remaining. The thing is that this line was in the movie when i went to see it in 1980. I was lucky enough to see the 70mm version about 5 times. Now it always seemed odd to em when i saw the 35mm version and then the home video releases that this line was suddenly gone. None of my mates every believed me when i told them about this extra line, as well as a few other differences in both dialogue and the end sequence being shorter. I guess it all comes down to what version you are most familiar with. I've also never got use to Leia saying " I know where Luke is" instead of repeating "we've got to go back" when they rescue Luke from Cloud City

Totaly off topic but WOW! You saw a 70mm print of Empire. I must admit to being a little obssesed with finding hard facts on the diffrences between this version and the 35mm/home video version. Would you be able to offer your thoughts/opinions on it as I can't remember anyone who actualy saw it commenting on it before. If not here, then maybe over in the 70mm Empire Thread.

Back on topic and the subject of the probe droid crash. Back before it was mentioned here, I always assumed the second impact was a diffrent meteorite but after everyone here said it was the same, I decided to check out The Annotated Screenplay. It confirms that it's the same crash but it reads a little diffrent to what apears on screen. (Well to me at least.)

One of these probes zooms toward the planet Hoth and lands on its ice-covered surface. An explosion marks the point of impact. A weird mechanical sound rises above the the whining wind. A strange probe robot with several extended sensors emerges from the smoke-shrouded crater. The ominous mechanical probe floats across the snow plain and disappears.

Then, after a quick description of Luke on his tauntaun

Luke Skywalker notices something in the sky. He takes a pair of electrobinoculers from his utility belt and through them sees smoke rising from where the probe robot has crashed.

There's no mention of a second crash, Luke could just as easily noticed the smoke on the horizon. I don't know if removing the 2nd crash would mess up the editing of the scene but it might be an idea to remove it so we don't have to witness the same crash twice.

Just my two cents on the subject.

I like Easter Eggs like that. I've watched ESB countless times and never noticed a sneaker or a potato so they're obviously subtle enough. What about the kitchen sink in the opening shot of ROTS, should we remove that too?

No, remove everything but the kitchen sink.

Hopefully, everyone will think of this as there definitive edition :)

Me and some of my buddies have been using the term "pulled a George" for years. It would be pretty funny to see the term "georged" take hold. So, who is going to enter this one into wikipedia? That would make it offcial, right? Ah, george it! Who needs wikipedia.

I was going to sugest someone create a page over at the Urban Dictionary but they already have an entry called George.

They do however have some quite acurate definitions on George Lucas, George Lucas Syndrome and George Lucasized.

I'm sure there's more but I'll let you find them.

Yeah I already tried restricting a google search to starwars.com

From the looks of things the artcles are no longer hosted on the OS. My only hope is if someone saved the images or posted them elsewhere, I doubt it though.

It was a really good resource :(

The Official site deleated a lot of good stuff after the redesign when they went Clone Wars crazy. The Visual Guide they where doing in chapters was the ony thing that kept me going back. Sadly, I never saved any of it to my hard drive.

Luck for you, I saved all the Changes images and copied and pasted there text descriptions to a seperate notepad document.

A PM with there rapidshare link is on its way to you.

Yet ANOTHER DVD boxed set...*sigh*

it might actually be wat we've been waiting for! why make each episode of the OT two discs?

Uh, for the same reason they did so for the 2006 individual releases: to include both SE and Original Theatrical (2 discs) in a single package.

Folks, if you are even remotely hopeful that these will include the OOT in an improved state, you are lightyears more optimistic than i could ever be!

I have seen no reason to believe these aren't the 2006 discs in a new package.

My thoughts exactly auximenies. This wont be anything more than the old discs repackeged in a brand new box-set. It breaks my heart to see people getting all excited about this, thinking we might get the OOT in anamorphic or even a CG Yoda in TPM but sadly I can't see that happening. This is nothing more than the now yearly re-release.

2004: 4 disc cardboard boxset with bonus disc released in September

2005: 3 disc cardboard boxset without bonus disc released in December

2006: Individual 2 disc Limited Edition's of the Trilogy released in September, Limited Edition 6 disc metal boxset released in December.

2007: 4 disc metal boxset with bonus disc released in November (UK only)

2008: 6 disc OT boxset released at the same time as a 6 disc PT boxset in November

Going on past releases, if there was anything new in this set it would be released in September.

The Clone Wars is been marketed like Prequels. GL and his crew were trying to made Prequel-like money off The Clone Wars...

but then....

http://www.kpcnews.com/articles/2008/08/21/features/columnists/jenny_kobiela/hid21646sect_381068fa74cb830a96e.txt

The Clone Wars failed and people do not like it....

so, maybe GL and his crew are now falling on plan B.

Plan B: to release the new versions of the Prequel Trilogy and the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD.

think about: one week after The Clone Wars failed, now like magic we are hearing about new box sets.

think about 2: GL's The Clone Wars Christmas sale plans are gone, now like magic we are hearing about new box sets.

Interesting idea Hunter6, but TF.N posted this news back on July 27th, almost 3 weeks before TCW was released and got bad reviews.

Sorry to be so negative people (and I'm so sorry for posting a link to TF.N) but I just can't see this being anything new.

Of course, If I'm wrong I'll gladly eat my words and give everyone here a million points*

*Note: Points are only imaginary and are worthless in value. You wont actualy recieve anything.

18% of LD owners cite Star Wars as a main reason for keeping obsolete format
Time

Well, a mate of mine gave (yes gave) me his LD copies of Texass Chainsaw Massacre and Natural Born Killers Boxset today because he knows I've still got my LD player set up. He tried to sell them on eBay but no one bid on them so he gave them to me for free.

With friends like that, being a LD collector is very, very easy.

The idea of merging the two Boba Fett voices together is a good one and something I would like to see.....errr, here.

However, I just don't get the consistency argument. Yes, Ady has already said he plans to alter Jango's voice in Ep.2 but he doesn't have too. Accents aren't genetic. We don't inherit them from our parents. We develope our own accents. There is no genetic marker for an accent so why would a clone (either Boba or any of the troopers) have the same voice.

The other argument is we never hear Boba talk without his helmet on. His natural voice may sound more like Jango's but he could have a voice modulator built into his helmet.

An example of both of these is Anakin Skywalker himself. His mother had a distinct accent but in the 9 years he lived with her (the same amount of time Boba lived with Jango) he didn't develope a simaller accent and doesn't sound anything like her. Later, after suffering from his injuries in Ep.3 he is given a walking life support system with it's own mask and as soon as he dons that mask, his voice changes. Sugesting that the Vader mask has a voice modulator built in.

Sorry if I've not made my ideas on this clear enough. It's very hard to put down in words my arguments for the origonal voice and why I just don't get why people keep on saying it would help with consistency with Ep.2.

Hey everyone. A few weeks back, I mentioned rearranging these very two minutes of the movie. I'm putting a link here to show the arrangement. This to me represents a stronger opening sequence. No more seeing the probe land twice and its reveal is pushed to the very end of the sequence instead at the middle.

I personaly don't think we see the probe land twice. My theory is that the 2nd impact is what Luke says it is, a meteorite. I might be mistaken but doen't someone else on Hoth mention all the meteorite activity in the system.

Ady, great wotk so far but the tauntauns facial movement still looks a little fake. A little head movement or more blinks might help.

No real need for that, as it wasn't the real BTTF set anyway, but it's still a little sad.

This Site has photos of the damage caused and you can see that the courthouse is still standing but a little scorched on the side.

The missing clock tower means it was in its Ghost Whisperer guise at the time.

The Studio Tour has a Google Earth image that shows what areas of the backlot where damaged.

GARY KURTZ (PRODUCER-STAR WARS AND THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK)

For the re-mastering of STAR WARS for the SPECIAL EDITION, Kurtz recalls that scenes on the negative were so badly scratched that they had to use the best quality material possible from the remaining worldwide theatrical prints used in cinemas twenty years early. It was a difficult job finding good quality prints and Kurtz was heavily involved in this work-even loaning LUCASFILM his own personal print of the movie for one scene which was heavily damaged on the original.

This would support the claim that the negatives have either been destroyed or are way too damaged to be useful in any future restoration but the fact that they used theatrical prints when they remasterd the '97 SE means thay could do that again.

Anyway, lets hope that somewhere a rich collecter has a 70mm print of Empire.

Well, I've just gone and paid for the Japanese Special Collection of Star Wars and Jedi on eBay, and I'm blaming that on this thread. LOL

I've spent the last 3 years colecting the diffrent releases of the OT on Laserdisc and keep my player hooked up to the TV just to play them from time to time so I guess I'm part of that 18%.

I guess my collection is more for show than anything as the shelf where I keep my discs is on prominent display in my room.

That doesn't stop people from thinking I'm mad. I own 5 diffrent versions of a 30 year old film on an obsolete format. When I say it like that, I guess they have a valid point.

Now I've got to try and find myself a copy of the Empire JSC to complete the set.
