Jabba's Fat Dancer...

she's a victim of Lucasfilm's desire to give every freaking background character a backstory.

Quoted for truth and also to thank you for my new user title.

Now, I seem to remember that she wasn't a fat dancer, she just had 6 breasts! A fact that I can't find on the Wookiepedia! That's twice as many as the woman from Total Recal.

PS: I never thought I'd ever have to search for "6 breasted woman" on Google!

the reasons why episodes 7 8 and 9 will/should be made
Time

There is only one reason why the sequel trilogy will/should be made:

MONEY!

There is absolutely no artistic merit in extending the movie series beyond Jedi. It's a natural ending to the storyline, whether it's the OT or the 6 episode saga. I don't see loads of people wanting a ST and although most people here knock it, a ST would overwrite the last 20 years of EU storyline's, alienating the fans of the early EU novels.

But hay, everyone has a mortgage to pay so anything could happen when money is the driving force behind the decision.

I, too, am late to the game. I've had the compressed 1080p rips for a while now, but not the Blu-rays. I signed up for a Usenetserver account and tried to get the "Proper.Reissues" of Ep. IV-VI. Grabit yielded too many corruptions on all 3, and Alt.Binz allowed me to only get Ep. IV, the "Sorry..." version. Could someone either re-up Ep. V and VI to a.b.starwars, or do a B+P where i'll send BD-Rs and postage? Thanks.

If anyone would could re-up Wookiegroomers Split Screen Versions as well, that would be much appreciated.

Blade Runner sequels/prequels ?.
Time

I kinda feel like I've derailed this thread with all this talk about the merits of Prequels so think I should direct everyone who wishes to continue the discussion over here:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Article-on-prequel-films-Note-Does-not-pertain-to-Godfather-II-which-isnt-a-prequel-its-a-sequel-with-extended-flashback-sequences-or-a-partial-prequel-to-some/post/451673/#TopicPost451673

As for Blade Runner, it's a film with a very specific style that I don't believe can be replicated by a modern day Sequel or Prequel. However, this move has very little to do with the artistic merit of extending the franchise and a lot to do with the business side of ensuring the rights to Blade Runner don't expire. This is why the news has been greeted negatively by the vast majority of fans.

Regardless of how silly the the whole rescuing Han from Jabba plot is, it's over shadowed by another big question.

Which orifice of the Sarlacc do we see?

If it's a mouth then it must have some way of going to the toilet. Does the creature run the entire length of the planet and on the other side is there a hole for waste extraction?

If it's the creatures backside, then is the reason it takes 1000 years to digest its food because its going in the wrong way?

Or is it something more.... feminine shall we say?

My head is about to explode :o

I just go with the plot. However, Jabba did look like he had been smoking crack in every scene

Having thought about it for 24 hours, I still can't work out what Luke or Jabba where trying to do. However I did think of something else. Vader already used Han as bait to trap Luke on Cloud City, surely he knows Luke will show up at some point and attempt to rescue Han from Jabba, so why doesn't Vader just show up at Jabba's palace and wait for Luke to show up? Or even better, why doesn't Vader pay Fett not to deliver Han to Jabba so Vader can set up another trap for Luke at an Imperial controlled location?

This means, there is no logic to anybody's actions in the 1st 3rd of the movie. However, as WhatsMyName says it's probably best if we ignore this and just go along with the plot.

That's my final thought on this subject, tomorrow I shall share my random thought about the Sarlacc.

Well I was going to come up with some random Star Wars related stuff of my own but I think I'll postpone that and follow up the whole "What was the plan for rescuing Han" with an equally valid question that was raised over at cracked.com

http://www.cracked.com/article_17546_7-classic-star-wars-characters-who-totally-dropped-ball.html

Was Jabba trying to go to war with the Rebellion?

He holds 3 high ranking Rebel prisoners hostage and never asks for a ransom. Luke walks in and says free my friends or die and he just laughs at him. When Luke proves he's not messing around by killing the Rancor and gives him another chance to free his friends without any more blood shed, Jabba refuses to listen and decides to execute the majority of his hostages in a manor that only serves to entertain him and his entorage.

Jabba's refusal to bargain with Luke gains him nothing and ultimately results in the loss of everything. Was he a criminal mastermind or an idiot?

Any one here know this guys name?
Time

He's on screen for a fraction of a second so I guarantee you he has at least 2 action figures (one for each outfit with different accessories), a 4 issue Dark Horse mini series explaining how he joined the Rebellion, a Wookieepedia article explaining how he's from Alderaan, had a run in with Boba Fett and helped Han Solo free Chewbacca from Imperial custody years ago. Oh, yes and he or his father will be on next weeks Clone Wars giving Anakin the idea for an advanced TIE fighter.

Have I missed anything?

What are all the Differences Between 1977 Theatrical Version and 1981 Re-release?

That's the main problem of the movie. The censorship. The novelization is full of blood, exploding heads, split bodies, cut body parts ... and the only thing you could see was the fake looking cut arm in the cantina sequence. And they cut even more "violence" out of the movie for the "special edition" :-(

But they left in the close up of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru's incinerated bodies. That image was quite gruesome when I was a kid.

I just quit smoking!
Time

To ChainsawAsh I say, "Good luck, you're gonna need it"

I started smoking when I was 16, the main reason being because a girl I liked smoked at the time (the things we do for love).

I had my last cigarette at 12.30pm on October 1st, 2009 when I was the young age of 31.

The reason I quit was because my Mum had a stroke. She was in hospital for 3 months and had to quit herself. It was a wake up call for me and I decided to quit myself.

I went cold turkey in the sense that I didn't have another cigarette but I used an inhaler and patches for about a fortnight. I gave up on those though when a nurse told me that having not had a single cigarette, the patches where probably pumping too much nicotine into my system and where probably affecting my concentration.

That can be a bit of a nuisance like when you walk into a room and forget what you went in there for but I took it to the next level and drove straight through a red light because I wasn't concentrating (don't worry, there wasn't an accident but it scared the shit out of me).

I must admit I was a bit of an arsehole to be around for the 1st month. Yelling at my family and co-workers for no reason at all but they where all understanding. I calmed down after a month though.

I still get cravings from time to time but I'm proud of quitting, I've done very well and having one would undo all the hard work I put into quitting.

I'm still going to celebrate England winning the World Cup with a Cuban Cigar though. Luckily,  that's never gonna happen again.

Wikipedia: List of changes in Star Wars re-releases - errors?
Time

Ooooh, the Wikipedia page that led me here to the OT. :)

The bit's you point out have been added since the last time I visited that page. Most of these alterations weren't there back in November so someone has added them at sometime over the last couple of months.

Also, the discussion page has been deleted sometime over the last year. At one point there was some debate over mentioning Adywan's ANH:R in the article.

These errors are one of the reasons why you should never trust the Wiki at face value.

Those descriptions are frustratingly vague. What part of "Vader to Hoth" has CGI X-wings? What is a Sabre recomposite, even with the links on the old site it's hard to tell what they're talking about. It mentions ONE new wipe (one I missed!) and not the dozens in the first two movies! So random!

I did say it wasn't a comprehensive list. It actually makes the 2006 changes list look complete!

The Tredwell site didn't have a clue what they where talking about either

The official website, starwars.com posted an official list of changes made to the Trilogy way back when there only was the 1997 SE. That list is probably gone for good at their site, but I noticed when I went through my computer that I had those changes archived. Unfortunately, they're only in scripted form, but if I remember correctly most of them was presented that way on the site as well. Makes a few of them a little vague.

The list isn't that comprehensive and most of these changes we've already covered, but I'll post the whole list in case some of you find it interesting.

Definitely an interesting list, I managed to find a copy of it on web.archive.org a couple of months back.

http://web.archive.org/web/19980422231445/starwars.com/unlock/confidential/changed/changes_details.html#newhope

Definitely not a comprehensive list. I'm guessing it's the "authoritative list posted by the official site" referenced in Tredewll's list of changes here:

You should go and correct Wookiepedia. They have it all wrong.

Dear God. I tried to out-ridiculous the EU and failed. Who would have guessed that "Look Sir, Droids" was in fact the only man in the Empire who noticed that AT-ATs could be tripped by cables, and his career was sandbagged because of it. And later he did become a spy for the Rebellion because he feels spiritual kinship with Han Solo.

He did make the list of 10 Minor Star Wars Characters With Completely Unnecessary Backstories:

http://www.toplessrobot.com/2010/07/10_minor_star_wars_characters_with_completely_unne.php

Also, 10 More Minor Star Wars Characters With Completely Unnecessary Backstories:

http://www.toplessrobot.com/2010/08/10_more_minor_star_wars_characters_with_completely.php

but there's no stormtroopers on the second list.

Did the 2004 SE come out on VHS?
Time

No VHS tapes where released in 2004.

The last VHS release of the OT was in 2000 in both the UK and US. It removed the "Special Edition" tag and listed the trilogy as Episode IV-VI. It also featured a 10 minute Episode II feature. Details can be found here:

http://www.davisdvd.com/misc/starwars/ep4.htm" target="_blank" title="web.archive.org/web/20071008213742/http://www.davisdvd.com/misc/starwars/ep4.htm">http://web.archive.org/web/20071008213742/http://www.davisdvd.com/misc/starwars/ep4.htm

Episode III was released in pan-and-scan ON VHS in the UK only. No VHS tapes where ever produced for the US market. I doubt it but there might be a NTSC Episode III tape released in Japan.

Edit: Just checked Amazon UK and they list a OT VHS boxset released November 11, 2002. This might be a re-release of the 2000 boxset released to coincide with the DVD/VHS release of Episode II.

Wow. Some tool's already reviewed it and given it a 5 star review!

I guess the days of waiting to actually watch the discs before commenting on them are long gone.

2 of 20 people found the following review helpful

Well, at least not everyone is insane!

No, only 2 out of 20 people. By my calculations, that means 10% of people are insane.

I like those odds!

freeset 3 hours ago in reply to Michealfelps:

they relese it in bluray now??? how did they make it full hd when the movie was shot on film cameras 30 years ago with no digital image processing and all the stuff???? it is a bullshit big like the death star before its explosion into tiny pieces of glittery magic. no movie before 2000 can be properly converted into full hd, i said properly, if the source is not high definition enough then good luck, you cant phisically convert it. the dvd is the MAX they can get out of starwars and they use noise cancelation algorithms to create a fine image, now they will CREATE MORE PIXELS?????? it smell like a marketing move.

Oh dear. So that would be why the ignorant masses don't like film grain and DNR is overused on films released pre-2002 when George Lucas invented HD camera's for use on AOTC.

No words exist to explain just how wrong this ignorant "film buff" is!

As for the announcement, I'd be very surprised if it isn't anything to do with the Blu-ray or 3D releases.

Let's just hope it's not to reveal that Star Wars will be a Panasonic exclusive for the next 2 years!
