Raiders of the Lost Ark - 35 mm regrade (a WIP)

Scanning can easily be arranged on these forums, the problem is always finding someone willing to actually buy the print in the first place.

If theres enough interest, and committment, I might be willing to purchase it if the price is right (of the reels I mean) and others with more knowledge than me can vouch for the quality of this particular print. I dont want to waste mine or anyones time if its not a good print.

Is there another way to burn a BD toplay on cheaper Blu Ray players
Time

Thanks for the reply. I am using Verbatim discs as it turns out. Didnt even realize it till I looked at the carousel of discs. I thought we were past the piracy and cheap BD player era. I guess I was wrong. Whats worse, is that someone burning home movies of vacations and weddings cant even watch a BD on whats supposed to be “the premier” A/V console from Microsoft. One more reason to not buy one. I was just wondering if there was another format or way I could write the BD so that maybe his Sanyo would play the disc. Its a shame, he was the one person that I really talkeded up the Harmy DE and TN1 versions. He was so excited to watch them. The sad thing is, my BD player is 10 yrs old and it plays everything.

Ive been burning BD with no problem for myself and a few friends and family members. But one friend, who is a huge SW fan cant play the any of the discs Ive made for him. He has an XBOX1, which I found out why it wont play burned BD, and a crappy Sanyo player that wontplay it as well. I was just wondering if anyone with more knowledge on authoring BD could help me out. Is there differnt way I can burn it where he might be able toview it on his devices? I know this should be on the “How to” discussion, but it seems more folks view this part of the sight than the other. Thanks!

What Didn't You Like About ROTS?
Time

It wasnt that I minded so much the diversity, its that it was forced (contrived) to give this image of complexity that didnt need to be done. In the OT, we were introduced to Chewbacca. We didnt need anymore explanation of him for the story to move forward and develop. The Cantina scene was very diverse and it served the story very well. But in the PT, every scene, it seems to me, was hyperbole to keep up this narrative of “a complex, diverse and bustling galaxy” that GL had in his mind when he made the first movies. It was overkill to do it in every scene.

I think one word will sum up the PT quite handedly, contrived! Everything was forced instead of developed. Dont get me wrong, my inner-child did his best to enjoy and conjure up the emotions I felt from the OT, but the adult in me saw exactly everything spoken here about it.

The one thing I dislike about the PT? The OT was a galaxy filled mostly with humanoid creatures and a handful of aliens. The PT is a galaxy filled with aliens and a few humanoid creatures. Its like diversity was forced upon us whether or not it added to, or took away from the story. Its almost like they were “token” just to fulfill a wish GL had way back when he created the OT. Dont get me wrong, some scenes worked, but most were, as I stated above, contrived.

UPDATED POST ! Here is the latest version of my set, I removed the “despecialized edition” label, as many users on this forum asked for, updated the audio and subs options, especially for ROTJ on account of the release of v2.5. Here’s how it looks now :

http://s14.postimg.org/dtj5ht229/DISPLAY_slipcovers.jpg
http://s14.postimg.org/i1dxqk3ht/DISPLAY_cases.jpg
http://s14.postimg.org/uoyagt7sh/DISPLAY_discs.jpg

http://s14.postimg.org/sferjso8h/DISPLAY_ESB.jpg
http://s14.postimg.org/gp0u2evg1/DISPLAY_ROTJ.jpg

For some reason, the blu-ray muxing is limited to 64 tracks (video, audio and subs), so I chose to exclude the russian voiceover audio track and some subs from Project Threepio, and keep “only” 3 english audio tracks for each film: 5.1 and 2.0 DTS-HD and 1993 LD DD, hoping to satisfy as much the purists as well as world-wide fans.

Here’s a link to a .txt of all the download links you may need:

  • the directions to download the Blu-ray ISOs
  • the printable PDFs of the blu-ray set
  • the editable AIs file of the blu-ray set
  • the templates, logos and cleaned artworks to design your own blu-ray set

I’ll be updating the ESB ISO as soon as Empire despecialized v2.5 is released, and in the meantime, I’ll also try to get my hands on the Team Negative 1 35mm restored version, and maybe mux a blu-ray out of it.

I’d also like to apologize for my very poor response rate on this forum, I’m just very not used to this kind of web communication and keeping up-to-date on the boards, but I try to take into account everything that’s being written here.

Cheers, and enjoy !

hi! where i can downlad this same inserts but whit the “despecialized Edition” title? thanks
pd: sorry my english

Yeh,metoo.I have SW and ESB,but for some reason the Jedi file didnt download. I cant remember where I got themhere on the forum.

Am I the only one who enjoyed Genisys?

I actually went with very low expectations. When I came out of the movie, I found myself pleasantly surprised. I don’t know why. But I did enjoy the movie a whole lot more than I thought I would

What is 2k DCP?
Time

Oh, OK. I used to deliver those to movie theatres when new movies and trailers came out. From one thread elsewhere I read, its kind of like a digital film projector in that it sort of projects individual images, like frames, at a fast pace. I ran across a HT thread where they were talking as if this tech wasas available at home, but for a price. It seems no one can ever be happy with the tech they have. To be honest, Im happy with 1080p. 4k looks nice, but whats the point? Ill take an educated guess and say 90% of people with a 4k TV sit too far away to discern between 4k and 1080p anyways. How much better can the 2kDCP be than a BD that it warrants rushing out and looking for one?

General Star Wars <strong>Random Thoughts</strong> Thread

Since this is the “random” thread, something I have scoured the internet for, but cant seem to fina definitive answer. Im always reading what sources were used for different format releases of both the SWT and other movies. How do yall know where the different formats are sourced from? The 93’ LD seems to be a pretty common source material for different releases, but what was it sourced from?? Just curious.

Yeh, I know. But that one scene always stood out. It’s etched in my brain. Her voice was big and in your face. No where else have I ever heard it like that. When you’re a kid, you notice any continuity errors after seeing something you love over and over. Kind of like the chasm scenes in the Death Star with the exhos differing.

If you saw Star Wars in 1977, what do you remember?
Time

I remember my folks showing the newspaper movie section with the SW showtimes and artwork. They had heard all the hoopla in the news about how its the new definitive sci-fi movie. They really built it up. I saw it opening night after church. Actually, I dont recall if it was a Wednesday nite, or a Sunday nite. But it was the first week of release. I rememebr having my peeny loafers on and the floor of the theatre was sticky. The moment the star destroyer engulfed the screen, I was mesmorized. I recall telling my best friend the following day about how after the stormtroopers stormed the blockade runner, “Then the Empire walked in.” (Darth). Ive never looked back. I saw SW in the theatres at least 30 times, that I can remember, probably closer to 100 times. I remember it playing at the Fremont HUb in the bay area in the early 80’s and seeing it several times there. No matter what I did, I could never get enough of it.

Ok, Im going to completely and totally change the subject. I did enjoy catching up on this thread and wont even try and jump in with some trite comment. Something has bothered me for, oh, about 25, 30 yrs now and I figured yall might have the answer for me. Years ago I remember seeing Empire on TV a few times. One thing that stood out was a specific scene that just seemed, well, mixed differently. Its the scene where theyre in the Faclon cockpit and Han is trying to go to light speed. In response to his lack of hyperdrive engines, Leai exclaims, “No light speed?” I always remember her voice in that scene as being very loud, out of place, kind of bassy. Almost like it was over dubbed. Any one recall this? Just wondering why that particular scene (of what I can remember) was so different than other recordings Id seen.

Not sure if this has been mentioned or if I am correct, but I bleieve John Wu’s “The Killer” was only released on LD.

John Woo’s “The Killer” is available on DVD and Blu-Ray. 😃

Correct me if Im wrong, but for the longest time, the copies on DVD and whatnot, on eBay were just that, copies of copies. I remember it was released on LD for a limited time then discontinued. Are the BD’s any good?

One more question…any recommendations for a good blu-ray writer to purchase that can do the job (making a nice SW OG Trilogy set) well, just figure I ask here from folks familiar with what is needed instead of browsing Amazon reviews etc…thanks!

From all of my research and what not, I went with the Pioneer burner. They seem to be the one that stands out among everything out there. Theyre about the same price as the above mentioned.

It occurs to me that, since we share our covers around here, that we could benefit somewhat from a repository where we could share individual assets we used in our projects so that we can find them easily later.

Hi! You’re absolutely eight, btw my latest links for my blu-ray set contains à link to a “make-your-own” pack with logos, cleabed artworks, templates, and I will revise it with cleaner and more accurate logos, and more different artworks and post these assets here very soon

I actually posted a thread (before seeing this one) similar to the idea presented here. Where are your links for the logos? I was wanting a “Harmy” logo for my own disc design. I could make it, but it sure would be easier if it was already available.

DVD/Blu-Ray Logo collections??
Time

I was wondering, most of the little logos that most of us place on our disc artwork and slip cover artwork you can find via a Google search. But there are a few that I cant find. Yes, I can make them, but I thought it might be convenient if we made a downloadable file that contained all of these logos in one place for ease of use when we create out own artwork. Im looking for the Harmy Films logo. I see it on a lot of the artwork shown here, but I dont have the actual little logo. As I author discs and make artwork, or use some of the great stuff yall post here, I have been creating a folder with all of the different logos. Before I create one for Harmy and TN1, I was wondering if anyone here had them already and could provide a download.

Well, there is no true anamorphic project available and I doubt there ever will be, so what you need is to use MPC-HC and use the the numeric keyboard to adjust the aspect ratio (num8 to stretch, num2 ti shrink vertically) until the picture fills the screen - it won’t actually add resolution, of course, but it will make sure the AR is correct in anamorphic projection and you use all the light emmited by the projector). Alternatively, in VLC, you can set the cropping to crop off the black bars and then set the AR to whatever the AR of your projection is before the anamorphic stretch.

Thanks for the input yall. It was more a thought than anything. Ive been in the market for a new projector and have seen the anamorphic lenses starting to pop up in the HT market along with projectors that sort of emulate “constant image height” by scaling the 810 lines of vertical resolution to include all of the llight possible, making for a brighter image. I was just wondering if there was a fairly easy way to convert the current MKV file into a scope source and then let the projectors zoom feature stretch it back out into a 2.39:1 image. Just a thought.

You can crop it to another aspect ratio in VLC I believe.

Ive never heard of VLC before. What are the benefits of using that media player? Again, bare with me, Im still learning when it comes to manipulating digital video media. I dont know quite how to ask this question, but what exactly happens if I crop or squeeze the TN1 movie into a scope format? Will I indeed get the desired result or be wasting my time?

VLC has very high compatibility compared to many media players. It does allow you to crop however many pixels you want off of any edge (not sure if that answers your original request or not).

Thanks dude. Not sure if I was understood though. Do you understand what I was asking? When you watch a typical blu-ray on either your tv or projector, youre really not getting the most out of your display. all that black on top and bottom is wasted pixals and wasted light, or lack of. If you watch the movie thats in the 2.35:1 AR that has roughly 1920x820 pixals, youre not getting the true benefit of your viewing medium. If you have a scope source, then using your projector with an anamorphic lense project it, you will have more light and more pixals and a better movie viewing experience. Since the whole point of TN1’s endeavor was to give us the closest thing to experiencing SW as it wouldve looked back in the day, I was hoping to go one step further and add to it.
Thats why I asked what was the original source print. Was it scope, flat etc? I just want to know if its possible to change the MKV file to a scope AR, basically sqush it to a square or a 16x9 AR, then let my projector stretch it back out and get more bang for my buck.Im sorry if Im not quite articulating exactly what Im trying to say.
