Here’s a comparison video of the non-DNR clip Williarob posted with the both the SSE and DeEd: https://youtu.be/NN59EkcGtQk
There is one instance where it goes out of sync(presumably due to missing frame(s)), but it’s quickly corrected soon after.

If anyone is interested, I can upload and link the raw video file here for download for viewing without YouTube compression degrading the quality.

It’s good to know I haven’t created an enormous amount of work for Harmy. I use VSDC video editor with the comparison videos set to 30fps. Most of the time the DeEd appeared in sync with the gout and blu-ray in the editor, but in the instances I posted above, both the GOUT and Blu-ray appeared to agree against the DeEd, and because all three of those sources have the same frame rate, that prompted me to bring this up.

Are you seeing frames duplicated that should not be, in all of the sources? (can’t look at all of your new comparisons at the moment).

I’m not sure exactly what you mean. For example, let’s say you have frames a, b, and c that are in a sequence. Frame a for the blu-ray, gout, and deed are in sync. In the blu-ray and GOUT, frames b & c are the same (due to the movies’ framerate) but in despecialized, a & b are the same. On frame c the sync is once again made identical. The screenshots above addressing this observation are frames a & b in this case.

Many of the issues I’ve come across with the DeEd seem to be that in places where the Blu-ray and the GOUT would duplicate a frame, the DeEd often duplicates that same frame a frame later than the Blu-ray and the GOUT. Here are a few examples of non-transition shots:

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/188423

There are all the places from the video where this occurs when happening at a transition frame:

Based on all of the other comparison vids I’ve had to sync, I’m under the impression this is a problem(if it can be classified as such) common all of the DeEds, but I could be very wrong. I’ll have to pay attention to this more closely in the future. I don’t think I’ll continue to report instances of this problem, though.

For those of you wanting a closer look at the difference between the Denoised and non-denoised version:

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/188230

I know some of you will hate the DNR, while others will prefer it, which is why I figured I should make two versions…

Jedit: By the way, the DNR is calibrated on a shot by shot basis, rather than just applying it to the whole film with one setting. As we all know, some scenes are much grainier than others!

I’m firmly in the anti DNR camp so extra thanks is in order for your being so considerate to we grain fetishists. 😃

Quick question, why does the Final Result crop off some of the image?

The DeEd seems to either be behind the GOUT in 13 instances or ahead in 15 in this sequence. I synced the video to the 13 discrepancies shown below.

Your frame comparisons are very helpful. Can you make them PNGs or at least try to alleviate some of that macroblocking in the blacks?

The images I upload are PNGs. I’d assume any problems are either caused by the website compressing the image(if it does that) or either handbrake which I use to extract the clip in the first place or the video editing software I use.

Info: Somewhat Interesting Syncing
Time

I was comparing the frames in this sequence and I thought some of the syncing was kind of interesting:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/187902
This one is perhaps an issue with the DeEd, but it interests me for the same reason the other two below do.

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/187903
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/187904
As seen, the SSE is in sync with the Blu-ray rather than the GOUT in these instances. Is this confirmed to be do to the SSE’s framerate? If so, sorry for wasting everyone’s time, and if not, hopefully this is useful information to those it would concern.

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI - Grindhouse 35mm LPP (Released)
Time

I forgot to include the word “four” after “I assume you are referring to rule [four]…” Sorry for the trouble.

If I may, though, I would suggest revising the rules to explicitly state links even that do not go to direct downloads are not permitted, that is if rule four was the violation to begin with.

Also, sorry if anything I’ve said came off as snarky. That is genuinely not my intention, as tone is not always easily conveyed through text.

I’ve managed to upload the full movie to YouTube: (link removed)

There’s no telling how long it will be up, maybe weeks from now, days from now, or even only minutes from now, or maybe we’ll get lucky for it to be left up indefinitely, though I doubt that. Enjoy while you still can!

Read the rules.
http://originaltrilogy.com/announcement/Fan-edit-preservation-forum-rules-and-FAQ/id/5950
And don’t post links like that again.

Point taken. Though, I assume you are referring to rule four, and if so, YouTube does not allow you to directly download their videos: you would need a third party software to do so, which I did not provide in that post.

Additionally, assuming at least 90%(which I’d argue is a VERY conservative estimate) of all YouTube videos contain copyrighted content, would that not mean most YouTube links posted on the forum in the past are in violation of the rules as well assuming I was in the wrong to begin with and that YouTube is not welcome here in general? If that is the case, you may want to edit out the same YouTube link posted in your reply(despite its being dead).

Uploading whole movies to youtube is not only against youtube rules, but against the law.

I think I’m in good company: you could consider, then, that any of these preservation projects here illegal(which I’m not trying to dispute), but that is why they are frequently cited to be in a legal grey area, as these projects and the distribution of their results are partly justified on preservation and educational grounds. Education is greatest when the most number of people reap its benefits.

Star Wars GOUT in HD using super resolution algorithm (* unfinished project *)
Time

vexedmedia said:

From what I’ve tested I would say that it’s very time consuming. Making sure what processes are being done to the footage are constructive to the shot and don’t take away anything or create unwanted artifacts. Aside from that the SuperResolution tool is very fast compared to the Detail-preserving Upscale effect, however the latter produces better results. That ends up as significant render time for each shot along with whatever you decide to do in addition (Like Denoising, adding grain back and color correcting/grading the footage to match a source).

That is basically why. Or many just haven’t discovered it yet.

I know my blu-ray player is able to enhance the picture quality of DVDs it plays, and it doesn’t take a second longer for the player to make that conversion. Is that or a similar feature to SuperResolution or Detail-Preserving Upscale, and if so, why is the BD player able to perform it so quickly, and if not, why not use the same optimization software/technology(or w/e it is) for every movie?
