Thanks for the comparison video, you can really see the difference in there.

You’re welcome, though, as I point out, YouTube compression seems to scrub away some of the grain, so the “Non-DNR” half you see could actually be considered as what “careful” DNR might ideally look like.

If that’s what a careful DNR would look like, I think I’d prefer that over no DNR. Judging by the way the conversation has headed here, I don’t seem to be alone in this opinion.

Nothing was done to that frame, except for a reduction in saturation. Also, no red boost was performed in any of the frames. I fact they are now reduced. Only the skin tones were altered in the frames with the soldiers, making them less orange and more red. There is some magenta noise in the walls, but this is inherent to the print, and varies from frame to frame.

Thank you for clearing that up.

For your viewing pleasure:

I think the clip looked better with some more saturation. The faces of the troops running around the corner look a bit yellow, and the older trooper’s face in the closeup might be better if less red.

Keep 'em coming with the videos; I think they’re really helpful, not to mention nice to see in general.

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)

Yeah, I had to put sparks back in in many places too.
What I do is I go through the cleaned scene and the original layered in difference mode, which shows the parts they have in common as black and highlights the differences, so I can see everything that’s been erased and shouldn’t have been.
After this, I’ll need to give it a manual cleaning pass as well, because a lot of the dirt is still there.

Can we look forward to seeing something like this in your despecializing video 😄?

I preferred the previous one.

I would have to agree, but regarding this frame in particular, I think Dre’s previous previous go at it was best: the last batch has a green tint and the newest has a red one.

I do think the first one would be better off with a tad less white, though.

You may need to use the beta key as I have to make it work(to use go to help>register in the client’s toolbar):

The dev says the key expires November 2016 so we’d all better make the most of it.

Has anyone else had trouble merging the 00003 & 00004.m2ts files into an MKV? When playing the exported video, there is either some freezing or a very broken transition at the point of merging. The issue seems to arise from the 00003.m2ts file itself, as playing it results in it ending with a brief freeze for me. This is the only file I’ve had and consistently had a problem with.

I’ve used both MKVToolnix and Avidemux with the same result.

MakeMKV For The Win.

Thank you! Very strange the other two did not.
