January 1998: purchases the Pan and Scan SE VHS.
May 1998: watches the entire trilogy back to back in one day to celebrate the end of the school year.
May 2004: after returning from a Casino trip in which I won $200, I read the offical announcement that the films were going to be destroyed for the 2004 DVDs. Promptly registered for Ebay for the sole purpose of obtaining a THX '95 Widescreen VHS set.
July 2004: hires a friend of my uncle whos in the DVD burning business to copy the VHS to DVD, but the Discs end up glitching and failing very quickly.
September 2004: bought the 2004 SEs since ANH and Empire were largely unchanged in story and no scenes were really destroyed unlike the ending of RotJ.
June 2005: saw Episode III in theaters.
March 2006: purchaces OCP's classic editions.
May 2006: reserves Official O.O.T set of Return of the Jedi only, but canceling it until I get some screenshots and clarification on the quality.
June 2006(yet to come): with all 6 movies on DVD, I am free to establish my routine of celebrating the anniversary of the firing of three very mean former teachers of mine:
5 days before: Phantom Menece
4 days before: Attack of the clones
3 days before: Revenge of the Sith
2 days before: A New Hope(OCP)
1 day before: The Empire Strikes back (official DVD)
the day itself: Return of the Jedi(OCP), Followed immediately by the "Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria" Segment of Walt Disney's "Fantasia"

Hell, I only reserved Return of the Jedi at sam goody so i could redeem a card for 2000 bonus points in their replay club, since another movie i was looking for wasn't there. shame is I'll probably lose those points if I were to cancle it and get my $5 back.
DAMN YOU LUCAS!
I think preservation efforts should continue. OCP's classic editions are loads better then what these DVDs will be

Unable to find alcohol, I lay down and thought about this.
I fought to get At Last the 1948 Show on DVD for a long time (and Do Not Adjust Your Set). Finally they released a DVD set, and it was indeed At Last the 1948 Show (and Do Not Adjust Your Set) and it was wonderful ... but it was none of the episodes I had, or had seen. It was all new to me. I loved it, but they hadn't released what I'd expected. And they still haven't. They released other stuff.
I fought to get the rather crap Rutles 2 released actually, and when it came out no one cared including me.
I fought to get Rutland Weekend Television released, and now it's been announced.
I wanted the Frighteners extended LD released - Alex was working on a version of it - then it came out, which was nice.
All this is nice.
But, y'know, you spend so much time fighting these battles, you're not a regular consumer anymore. Somehow you can't share in the joy in the same way. Or it takes a minute to.
When my rough cut of the Thief and the Cobbler was released on GBS.TV, somebody posted, really happily, at IMDB saying, we won! It's restored! We are the champions! We've defeated Disney, etc ...
Well ... no. No one defeated anyone. I restored a movie, the fight goes on.
It was like at the end of the Seven Samurai ... a film I haven't seen in a few years so pardon if I misquote. At the end, as I recall anyway, there's been a great victory won, but the old, experienced samurai just say to each other, it's been another battle lost.
Because so many died fighting, y'know?
We were fighting a war here, and we've won it, but we'll never be thanked for it. We, the fans, will never be thanked for our part in that. The joy we get is from the film itself, on its little picture disc.
We know, on some level, that we've been duped again. That George got us to freak out again, and buy his things over and over and over again, again.
Like when he wouldn't release Star Wars on video. Like when he wouldn't release it on DVD. Like when he wouldn't release the original versions.
It's like a cosmic joke on some level. He always hurts the ones who love him.
I feel a fool.
LOL US!

he's still not fooling me. I'll buy RotJ right of the bat and put the other two on my christmas list. I feel that is a nice comprimise as he'll make back the money he lost when I purchased OCP's Classic editions. no more, no less.

What he is thinking s that all the marketing cost and hype of releasing the O-OT would make him lose money. But the acual cost of makeing the discs should be nil. And we know he has nice clean versions of the O-OT without the additions. Not everything they release on DVD has to have a huge marketing push. A modest one will get the news out. Lucas if you release it we will buy. And tha's the bottom line.

It will be due to pressure from the fans and the company, or his eventual death. But doing it for the money? No. Lucas has stated many times that he would actually loose money if he put it out on DVD (which is bull, but then again Lucas likes to make up crazy crap all the time.)

It was part of a now defuct vocational training program in which students where sent to Job training sights around the town.
only we weren't really being trained. we were expected to do the job as a pro right from the start. So, apparently i was doing something wrong, but instead of Helping me and pointing me in the right direction, they just went ahead and "Fired" me. I did not find it to be a very plesant experiance.

that flag looks a little bit like some "Night on Bald Mountain" Stills from Fantasia, although It's probably not, as the color doesn't match.

John williams did not compose "Jedi Rocks", Jerry Hay did. Thank god for that, as William's Star Wars scores remain untarnished.

Anyway, yeah, how 'bout that Star Wars timeline, eh?
ESB is quite difficult to time line because as an audiance we don't have a lot of references (other than logic) to come up with a proper time line. Since the Falcon had no hyperspeed that means that they were on thrusters only and that has got to be one long ass trek. They said that they were in a solar system and that Bespin was one of the planets (makes sense since they were in an asteroid field; those don't just apear in random parts of the universe). It takes us months to send probes to Mars, let alone the newest probe sent to Pluto - which will take 9 years to get there.
So the Falcon had to limp it's way to Bespin, and Han said it was far but do-able.
Kershner said that ESB does take place over several months, which is plausable, but it's hard to see because none of the character's clothes change. Okay, Leia escaped with Han and only had the clothes she was wearing, but she should have changed her hair. I mean, I can't stand wearing the same up-do hair style for more than a day. I get those "hair head aches" where your scalp hurts. I blame the director for that one. He could have at least given us some sort of reference that a lot of time was elapsing. Given Luke a bit of a 5 o'clock shadow later in his training, have Leia change her hair style once or twice. Hell, have her take off her coat for once and run around in her tanktop for a few scenes.
And to make things worse, when she get's to bespin she changes, but then after the torture she is back in her same damn snow clothes she's been wearing for 3 months.

well, we don't see the Falcon between their decision to head for bespin and when they get there, Maybe Leia made due with some of Han's clothes, and then changed back into her own to appear presentable on Bespin.
As for Boba Fett, I'm guessing he hyperspaced ahead. I don't believe the falcon would be followed for a month without them finding out.

would any body happen to have the DVD box for the 2005 release of the 2004 editions? I’d like to have it to store ocpmovie’s classic editions in, as I’ve decided to go with the original poster art for the individual covers themselves.

By the way, I don't know if your aware of this, as the release was not publicly announced, But "Return of the Pink Panther" has a new Anamorphic release from Universal (as opposed to the letterboxed artisan release). that way you'd be getting equal quality frames for the Clouseau character.

when I saw the fixed lightsabers in the shot of Palpatine, I actually clapped and shouted "YES!!"
and the original ending choked me up, as usual!
Now, i can completely forgive George Lucas, because he can't touch these! Maybe I'll actually check out his AFI award show now.
