Super Star Wars games and "Who shot first?" poll on Wii

Now, my question is are they going to edit Super ROTJ at the end to replace Sebastian Shaw with Hayden?

I wouldn't put it past Lucas.

of course, a video game is more trivial than the actual movie itself, so I doubt Lucas will even bother.

but like I said, he sank to depths that I never thought he would sink to with the 2004 DVDs, so...

How would you have done the Prequel Trilogy?
Time

Episode 1:

Anakin would be older and there would be no medichlorines.

Episode II:

re-write the love scenes,

Make it so that the clones were made BY THE REPUBLIC and not a SITH so that Yoda's decision to use them wouldn't be so assinine.

Episode III:

Anakin, once he pledges himself to Palpatine, is sent after the most powerful Jedi to kill, and not to the Temple to slaughter defenseless children in cold blood.

Padme would not die, and Kiera Knightley would reprise her role as Sabe in order to fake Padme's death.

the last part of the film would focus on Padme struggling with having to give up Luke and facing the prospect of being a single mother constantly on the run.

The ONLY thing I would change in RotJ (refering to the undestroyed, pre 2004 version, of course) is to have Han and Leia's roles in the final battle be reversed:

Han gets shot in the shoulder, while Leia leads the final assult on the shield generator. it would affirm that she is indeed a skywalker:

Her Brother destroyed the first death star, whilst she ensures the destruction of the second.

oh yeah, I wouls also add a big "THE END" to the ending credits before "Directed by Richard Marquaand" appears.

If you could interview George Lucas, what would you say?

After getting all the common courtesy mumbo jumbo out of the way, I would ask him why did he allowed the '04 DVD set out without quality control. I would ask him if he even watched the master copy before they were printed. I will also ask him if he even rewatched the OT before making the prequels. I would ask him, why did he cast Hayden as Anakin and why did he just paste his head on top of Sebastian Shaw in ROTJ, and so on...

bullseye. those are questions that SHOULD HAVE BEEN ASKED BACK IN 2004.

I would also ask him about his hypocritical "National Heratage" statement in regards to cvolorizing black and white films.

I would also ask him,

"are you aware that if you pulled stuff like this if you were someone else's employee, not only would you have been fired long ago, but you also would likely be barred from ever doing this kind of work again?"

and,

"how do you think Sebastian Shaw's family feels about one of his most famous rolls being replaced with bad , evil looking stock footage of someone who was only two years old when the movie came out?"

A Long Time Ago... - Share Your Star Wars Story

He stops watching RotJ at a ceretain point and watches one of the segments of Fantasia for a better ending.  He explained on another thread, I'll see if I can find it...

Found it:

The final segment of Disney's "Fantasia" Is Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain" paired with Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria", another tangle between good and evil, albeit on a religious scale, with good triumphing yet again. Since I allready find many Religious parallels in Star Wars, (Particularly Christian) it augments the uplifting feeling the undestroyed RotJ ending provides me, (as well as calming things down and solemnising it) making it a perfect coda to my ideal Star Wars veiwing experiance.

of course, Fantasia supplements the Undestroyed RotJ ending, not replacing it.

Poll: ROTJ Celebration Themes - 1983 or 1997?
Time

wow. hot topic.

Here's what I think:

what makes the Undestroyed RotJ ending so uplifting is that it shows the Skywalker family re-united and reconciled, and at the same time, appeals to religious beliefs about redemption and forgiveness.

It's not the various sites of people celebrating in the ending that puts a smile on my face,

It's when Leia runs up and hugs the Brother who she just learned she had returning safely to her, and Luke sees his father as the man he would have been at peace and reconciled with Obi-Wan and Yoda, smiling proudly and happily at him.

I don't think the rebels problems are over after RotJ, but they're definately one GIANT step closer to becoming so. but in the meantime, the MAIN plot point about the trilogy, The Skywalker family, has it's story wrapped up perfectly, and I get a genuine fealing of closure, in that there's nothing more that can be effectively done with those characters.

(and yes, I've felt that way about the Trilogy before the Photoshop program used to create the "prequels" was even blueprinted at adobe)

I like both peices. However, the original theatrical ending has longer scenes with the main characters (Most noticably Luke's reunion with Han And Leia, the most heartwarming part of the ending), which is important because it's the last we'll ever see of them.

I never noticed that- I noticed that the '97 version has an extra shot of Luke hugging Wedge, and they edited Luke's "wink" to the force ghosts, but I didn't notice that they cut down other parts as well.

Not surprising, since I usually try to avoid watching the re-edited ending.

 heres how it goes:

in the original version, Leia runs up and hugs Luke, then they look at each other. then it cuts to Leia handing Luke off to Han.

in the SE and Destroyed ending, Leia runs up and hugs luke, then it immediately cuts to lando re-enacting his escape to Chewbacca, and then back to Leia handing Luke off to Han.

Hypothetical: What would you KEEP?
Time

what I would keep:

Qui-Gon

the nature of the "prequel" Jedi (in that they forbid attatchment), ans there are signs that Qui-gon planned to go against that doctrine (namely because he tried to free Shimi as well).

that's actually the SOLE plot point from the "prequels" that I like, because it DOES make Luke's Journey in the OT much more meaningful and that journey's end in the Undestroyed Return of the Jedi all the much more uplifting.

also, believe it or not, I would also keep Jake Lloyd, because he actually looked like he could grow into the REAL Anakin Skywalker, Sebastian Shaw.

Going his own route doesn't mean he wasn't one of these goody-goodies the prequel era was full of. You could see him trying so hard at being this moral wisey wisey nicey nicey Jedi. Alec Guinness's Kenobi never made that sort of effort.

notice he tried to free Anakin's mother, (and logically, bring her with them) which totally went against the Jedi's rules of attatchment. I think Qui-gon knew what would happen to the Jedi if they didn't change, and his death prevented him from introducing that renassiance (the role which eventually fell to Luke.)

I am a fan of the original undestroyed trilogy (although the 2004 version of ESB Isn't too bad).

RotJ, most of all. the whole trilogy builds up to it, which is why I believe the undestroyed version is absolutely essential for the complete and satisfying experiance.

before our efforts here forced lucas to suck it up and respect what and who got him where he is, I couldn't enjoy Star Wars at all because the UDT RotJ was condemned to rotting VHS and Laserdisc.

Looks like the prequels are not aging well.
Time

one thing about confusedMatthew:

he always seems to equate "Bitchiness" with "Evil". sure, in case of the "prequels", he is right, but he also applied that logic with "The Lion King". as you can clearly see, Anakin and Simba are completely differant entities.

the other thing I disagree with him about is him saying killing the sandpeople was no differant than killing the Jedi Children.

killing the sand people was insane rage over the death of his mother, whilst killing the Jedi children was pre-meditated, cold-blooded murder.

otherwise, he is 99.9% spot on about what's wrong with the "prequels".

I'm sorry but how do you guys know that this was the original OT backstory? Did you just assume it? I heard none of this in the OT.

The Annotated Screenplays sheds light on the whole post-Anakin turn scene when Lucas was writing ROTJ:  pg. 269

Lucas, "It was decided during the story meetings that Uncle Owen was Ben Kenobis brother.  Owen always resented Ben for imposing Luke on them, and now Ben is taking blame for what is happening and feeling guilty.

Obiwan fought Anakin, and he thought he destroyed him, but the Emperor was able to save him.  The Emperor knew, as Ben did, that the Force was strong in the Skywalker family, and he began to search for Anakins offspring.  Luke was sent to Owen, and while his sister, Leia, was sent in seclusion with their mother (Anakins wife) to the protection of friends on a distant system.  The mother died shortly there after, and Lukes sister was adopted by Ben's Friend, The Governor of Alderran and his wife.

also, it's in the novelization of RotJ by James Kahn, based off of Lucas' Original screen play. I know that because many lines in that book are also present in the graphic novel version.

I for one love the Prequel Trilogy for what it is and have no complaints with it well besides that dreaded character Jar Jar Binks lol. Its not the Original Trilogy nor was it intended to be the Original Trilogy but what it was suppost to be was the back story the story that every Star Wars fan wanted to see for years and it 1999 we got it with The Phantom Menace with the story of Anakin Skywalker. I think people should let this topic rest because the Prequels are great movies and people just need to let it have its legacy in the Star Wars Saga.

The prequels are NOT the backstory that everybody waited to see. Before that original backstory became the prequels it went through significant changes and got a whole lot of stuff added that was invented probably in the 90s. For example, Anakin was supposed to be in his thirties or forties when he turned to the dark side, which would have made him a very different sort of character. He was probably originally an adult when he met Kenobi, so no little kid running around. There was no Jar Jar and no Qui Gon. Probably no Jango either I'd guess. Dooku wasn't invented, or Grievous or probably Maul. It would have been a different sort of story. A lot of things would have been done differently if the prequels had been made faithful to the backstory Lucas had when he made the OT. The prequels are not the old backstory, they are a revisionist take on that story, which changes the nature of it and makes it something very much at odds with the OT.

The "legacy" of the prequels is Star Wars being rubbed in shit and losing respect. That's their legacy. We don't need to accept that. The prequel trilogy is not a rightful part of the saga and deserves to be rejected. Great movies my ass.

exactly. I can only imagine how much better the original backstory would have been. the big one is that "Mrs. Skywalker" (since she probably was not named Padme at that point) survives anakin's turn, and Anakin didn't even know she was pregnent before he "left". Imagine the drama that could have come out of that.

and since Padme and Anakin would then be closer in age, their relationship would have been much easier to swallow because then Anakin more or less wouldn't be falling in love with his babysitter. (the romance would be handled better, too if anyone other than lucas were to do the writing)
