Permission to Squee sir?
Permission to Squee sir?
It could be argued that it was just a mental technique for blocking mind probes (a bit like in Dune), only later would it be contextually seen as a possible manifestation of her Force sensitivity.
There are nice discussions of this type to be found on this thread for ESB and ROTJ (though it's become more of a ROTJ idea thread recently) : http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/ESB-and-ROTJ-Wishlist/topic/8826/
and this one for the prequels : http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/The-Prequel-Radical-Redux-Ideas-Thread/topic/9911/
Like this thread they are for basic ideas though the prequel one is specifically for really pushing the boat out with imagination.
It would be nice to see what you can add to those ongoing discussions.
I was prompted to return this back to the BBC following the recent ta'do about religious costume, also from the Not The Nine O'Clock News team :

I could do with one of those in PVC at the moment (will it ever stop raining?).
Going by this the correct certificate would have been yellow (not green as I remembered it) :

Those of you intrigued by the sample certificate it dates from 1979 (not 1980 as often listed) so a perfect template for Star Wars and ESB and bits of this classic can be seen here:

I can't make out what the pattern in the margin is (could it be the BBFC address?), different aspect ratios, I assume, would have just extended the coloured side.
I will have a go at replicating it when I find the time but if anyone can give more concrete details of the side margin I would be very grateful.
People used to ask Adywan why he didn't put his extended Alderaan destruction into his final edit and he gave much the same response (that and it being a bit of joke anyway what with Jar-Jar dying and all).
He ended up sticking it on as a deleted scene.
The Falcon could swoop over a refinery as it escapes the city and pass over it again as they come back to pick up Luke.
That would be a mockup I'd love to see.
Monroville said:just don't cut to the planet surface; as it stands, I think it looks quite impressive and could be a better alternative to what is in ANH:R. The main thing is that it doesn't come across as taking 10 minutes to a day for Alderaan to blow up, just to show Michael Bayhem in each of the cities (like what we get nowadays).
Seeing the green shockwave go around and the planet blowing up would still give it some kick while still happening quick enough to keep with the original's pace.
I also like the idea of seeing ships (like hundreds) leaving in the left side of the screen, on the opposite side of the DS and then getting wiped out from the shock wave, though at the same time Alderaanians probably wouldn't know what hit them (DS pops up, lots of people say "what the hell is that thing?!"; green laser comes out; blammo)
That doesn't explain the cries of terror that Ben goes on about though (if we take him at his word).
If the planet was snuffed out in one swoop without the Alderaanians knowing what hit them how could they be distressed enough to communicate fear to him via the Force?
Spielberg NO!!!
Remember Always.
That might be useful for ROTJ (as those certificate ratings came into being on 1 Nov 1982) but the certificates for ANH and ESB would be very different (especially with the aspect ratio).
Just found this site, it might help, the AA Certificate is closer to the mark (the OT were all U Certificates and green as I remember):
If your change doesn't work because of the limitiations of the tools at your disposal either change tools or don't do the change.
A lot of people on here don't use macs (in fact Ady is rather vocal about refusing to use one).
That shouldn't be an excuse.
Not quite.
The use of the Emperor's Theme in that sequence makes a great deal of sense and your mock up edit proves it.
The other two in my opinion prove a point too, that neither of those sound additions add anything to the scene but having someone like yourself try it demonstrates what it would be like with them in much better than any mental speculation.
But that was down to some hard work on your part and not by the accidental throwing together of elements or from someone taking something you did that didn't quite work and expanding into something that works really well.
I have no problem with you doing this sort of thing (in fact I welcome it greatly) as long as you remain mindful of how it is labelled and ask permission to use other people's work.
Taking down the scribbled on poster was also a wise move as people are more likely to treat what you are doing seriously.
May I also add you're editing is showing much improvement compared to your earlier efforts, though your green crawl is in serious need of a redo.
We haven't seen this thing in motion yet so it's difficult to say how fast it is but Ben did say "millions were crying out in terror and were suddenly silenced".
The emphasis is on the sudden silence it doesn't prove that the whole process was instantaneous.
Intially he was wearing breathing apparatus because the boarding troops and Vader cut a hole into the hull of the Tantive to break through and vented the air.
They liked the look and because the sequence was cut built the backstory around it but the backstory was largely there by the release date as it was printed in lots of descriptions of the character, along with his Sith title (even though it never got a mention in the actual films).

His Flight of the Darned is one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lmh8xeX6SG0
Their style seems to be very different but who knows?
I also love "Bye bye Tom" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS5niD5QFF4&feature=channel_page
Babelcolour AKA the forementioned Stuart Humphryes has also moved into the world of the funny:

I was thinking of having the tail end of this in my relocation of Ben's ghost to his old hut idea.
Just seeing Luke hanging around R2 (like Leia does in ANH) and seeing the little compartment close shut without seeing what was in it so not to spoil the surprise during the Barge scene.
And then cut into his "I can't do it Artoo..." line.
Would it be ok to paste some of this conversation into the Wishlist thread as if it can be done it would make either a nice full scene or an interesting deleted scene for a future edit of ROTJ?
The tilt (though slight) does make the structure feel more like something light and floaty.
There would have to be some kind of counter balance for the interior structures or people inside would be thrown from one side of the room to the other or at the very least get cloud sick.
It would be nice to see the refinery platforms at night as their bright reds do distract from the very pale and more important city in the clouds (perhaps during the escape near the end).
That's interesting as it makes out the super laser is more than just a very big laser.
I love the way the atmosphere seems to be getting hit by an enormous aurora (which it possibly would be for a fraction of a second).
Have you read any of the ESB/ROTJ Wishlist Thread Darth Venal?
I've been trying to work on transposing Ben's ghost in ROTJ from Dagobah to his old hut and that sort of work would be very useful for something like that.
That is impressive work I was never convinced by the SE painting of Ben's hut either.
Going by your Tosche Station recreation are you working on trying to enhance the deleted scenes at all?
Honestly though projects like Paint Wars http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Paint-Wars-A-New-Hope/topic/6921/etc don't actually do any harm.
As I posted before (in relation to Janskeet, I wonder what happened to him?) something of accidental brilliiance might come out of things like this. Though going by the footage I doubt it.
Just as long as there is no confusing mislabelling and due permission has been sought, this sort of thing is no different than a lot of other announced edits out there (most of which never turn into anything).
If the board rules are broken the mods will sort it out, if the content is somehow offensive just ignore it.
I don't know, all that's missing is Roy and the Tiger.

As for the watermark, those images are less than 15% of the quality of the originals so it doesn't really matter. And all my work is automatically copyrighted through my job, so even if someone were to try ripping off my full-res stuff I'm still the legal owner. Not that I'd ever sue a fan editor, but it's nice to know I have legal claim to anything I produce. I'm only protective over fully original work.
I'm really hoping the final product works as well as we're hoping. But when you've looked at it so many times while working on it, it can really be hard to have an objective eye. I just think the way Alderaan is destroyed is lousy; it literally explodes - an entire planet - the second the green beam hits it. I don't care how big your gun is, a planet is going to take a bit more time to tear apart than that. So that's where we're going with it.
Unless you are granted permission from Lucasfilm and Paramount you can't claim copyright over images produced from manipulating elements from Star Wars or Star Trek. That would be like makers of Pink Five attempting to sue someone for editing their work into another fan film. Seeking permission first would naturally be the polite thing to do.
Items of your own devising would be your intellectual property but none of us is George Lucas (at least I don't think so) ;-)
The spa mockup is a very nice evocation of Ralph McQuarrie's original design painting :
It really captures that retro-futuristic hot air balloon look, I like the way that the far one appears to be tilting in a breeze.
As I said before I copied your Death Star post here (and commented on it) :
http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Can-anything-else-be-done-to-ANH-after-Adywan/topic/10131/page/10/
Also how can Luke relate to some creepy looking young guy after just saying goodbye to his old dad?
That looks so much better EyeShotFirst.
I hope that the ESB:R version of the shot and those similar are a little less uniform in their peach tones, I know it ties in with the general ambience of the light when they finally land but surely the interior lighting would create a bit more variety in the tones inside the Falcon.
I've taken the liberty of copying Darth Venal's post over to the After Ady thread so it can be commented on without taking this thread off topic.
