The bit where he is called over to open the doors could be adapted for that so it's a last minute hack while he is trying to do something else and then he gets shot by the stormtrooper.

Wait, are you saying he shouldn't be called over to open the doors? or he IS called over to open the doors then also hacks the gunners to shoot down the TIEs (or whatever they are)? I think the latter would make more sense...well...I guess I don't like the idea of cutting out the little bit of dialouge we have from Han or Liea...

I was suggesting they call him over to open the doors and while he is attempting to do that the TIE Bombers attack so he hacks the weapons systems (Hooray!) and then gets shot (Boo!) leaving Han with no other option than to try and hotwire the door.

Another lovely mockup there Angel.

He knows kids don't want to see the hero die.

And that is why Return feels, to me, out of place in the trilogy (and why I wanted to walk out of the theater in 83). It's a full-on children's film. Star Wars was a serious science fiction\outer space adventure. Return isn't even remotely serious. It's comedy & cute stuffed animal marketing tie-ins.

In Star Wars, Luke's aunt & uncle are killed (complete with close up of the burned bodies), his mentor is killed, the princess is tortured & her family killed, and Luke's best friend is killed. Star Wars isn't a children's film. Lucas moved away from the seriousness almost as soon as the franchise got going. Even Empire shows signs of the comedy\cute feel that was fully realized in Return.

ROTJ feels like all of the main actors are winking at the camera and not really taking the movie seriously.

It definitely feels that way to me, and it's not at all surprising. If the story is no longer serious, why would the actors have even bothered with trying to continue playing the characters seriously?

For me - if a science fiction story starts out like this;

...then there's no way it can successfully morph into this:

As a 15-year-old who sat in the theater in 1977 (at least once a week) and was very moved by Star Wars, the series' transition to children's bed time story was a transition I wasn't able to make.

The remedy is to combine the two :

Star Wars Infinities and What it could mean to the Prequels

What if Qui-Gon had left Anakin on Tatooine, or had been caught cheating with the dice?

What if Mace Windu had helped Anakin liberate the slaves and his mother?

What if the Trade Federation had turned down Darth Sidious?

What if Jengo Fett had stuck to Bounty Hunting instead of taking up cell donation for cloners?

What if Dooku stayed with the Jedi order?

What if Anakin had saved his mother from the Tusken Raiders?

What if the Jedi got the plans to the Death Star?

What if Jar-Jar was a really great character that everyone loved?

I had Artoo use the bunker computer to program the Imperial gun turrets to shoot down their own ships (so no new footage other than models necessary) but I'm sure there are ways around it.

Clearing all that forest would allow for AT-AT stomping throught the stumps and ash footage without the perceived getting stuck between trees problem too, also perhaps some real Ewok carnage along the lines of the Lars Homestead massacre:

I suggested having TIE Bombers thin out the forest (Apocalypse Now style)

I love that. after all: An entire legion of my best troops awaits them. it should be a fair enough amount of firepower to show that the rebels won ;) that gives me a great idea for a mockup. But it occurs with a problem. if we will have an electric napalm style shot, then the explosion of the shield generator should be more breath taking and a worthy money shot! something like we see in Iron man end. a ray of energy rises to the skyies and then we have the exp.

One aspect of the Endor ground battle that hasn't been explored in Imperial terms is the air.

I suggested having TIE Bombers thin out the forest (Apocalypse Now style) but after seeing AOTC style gunships weaving through forests in the Avatar trailer perhaps something similar would add more complexity to those scenes.

If the Tydirium was a transport ship instead of a shuttle the Rebels could have a few speeders and heavier guns which could be used to shoot them down (with the aid of some Ewok gliders and other improvised weapons).

I wonder what the Imperial version of the Republic Gunships would look like, would they be that different?

If you think back to Yavin (another gas giant) it was further away than the one seen in this mockup and filled a large section of both the sky on Yavin IV and the space battle in ANH (even more so with ANH:R).

If the planet were to be that close in ROTJ it would take up most of the sky on the forest moon (not so much a problem as most of the time the trees block the skyline but it would mean night would be almost as bright as day bathed in reflected light from the planet and the new metal moon). And it would be a very dominant feature of the space battle (which already has a lot going on).

If it was moved back a bit so it seemed relatively smaller it could still be in the sky and in the space battle but not so much so that you can see very little else.

Some of our local gas giants have rocky moons that aren't right on top of their parent planets.

The planet is a bit too close to the forest moon for my taste.

At that proximety it would literally fill the sky in every direction which would be a bugger to work into the live action and the battle scenes (the lovely pan down mockup you did Angel http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/ESB-and-ROTJ-Wishlist/topic/8826/page/30/would look very different in the set you have here).

Push it further away and it could still be a major fixture in the sky and battle but not so prominent that it becomes a major headache.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

It's a bit hard playing dumb with a guy you know can read your mind.

I thought the whole Sith dogma thing was designed to avoid all this.

Palpatine knows Vader is plotting against him (he wouldn't be doing his job if he wasn't) it's an unspoken given when someone in one of Mario Puzo's books or in one of Graves' Claudius books refers to another character as "My friend" you know one of them will have plans to kill the other.

Having Vader play dumb is too dumb for a character like Vader.

Leia Chewie and the gang use the Cloud City elevators in ESB after Lando sets them free and as you just said yourself Vader and Luke come out of an elevator when they enter the Emperor's throne room so the only thing getting in the way of being a running gag in all the films is TPM (unless my memory is failing me).

Nice to see they finally got the hanger ready for the old man (it's the least they could do for the most VI of VIPs) I wish that the droids on parade could be removed though. Even most of the Rebels see droids as just hardware so it seems a bit odd seeing probe droids lined up with the troops. Are the black astrodroids expected to salute (brrrr, musn't give Lucas ideas)?

I would prefer to see even more troops and maybe another lift for symmetry sake.

I know Endor is a forest moon but it's universally depicted as being more sapphire than emerald.

Otherwise more quality goods there Mr V.

Even if they can't be dropped into the film they would make for interesting viewing.

I was arguing for something similar on the Wishlist thread for using the shuttle arrival from ESB: SE to be used to rebuild the lost footage of Luke arriving at the Death Star in ROTJ (not necessarily for inclusion in a cut of the film but possibly as an extra).

Idea: Retelling The Saga Through The Games It Inspired :
Time

After stumbling across this series of videos:

http://www.gametrailers.com/game/the-star-wars-retrospective/6389

I thought it might be interesting to tell the story of the saga using footage derived from the various games that have been made over the decades.

It would be an fun way of showing both the history of gaming and the cultural impact of the Star Wars film series.

Some footage from games not directly linked to any of the films could still be used (Jengo from Bounty Hunter could be used in AOTC possibly the most difficult film to cover) and KOTOR could be used in a prologue to the prequels.

Turning one game into a film has been attempted before http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-Bounty-Hunter-Beyond-The-Game-a-Galactus-amp-MoveAlong-Production/topic/6086/

But this would be more like none’s kaleidoscopic Thee Backslacpkping With Media project http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Thee-Backslacpkping-With-Media-Pol-Mis-Report-Wallpapr/topic/7758/, jumping from one game to another to match the story.

I imagine the original soundtrack would have to be maintained to form a glue for the game based imagery.
