Snoke is Leia

In the Radio version we “see” Leia receive the plans from Rebels under attack from Imperials.
We may see that conflict and hear Leia receive the transmissions. Starting the first film off and gaining a mention in the crawl.

“Thanks for your hard work. You’ll get full credit in the opening crawl… Now they are all dead, what the hell am I going to do with the two gold medals they were supposed to receive ?”

It doesn’t mention their deaths in the crawl only their victory 😛

I agree, except for the acting being tops. Larry (Darryl and Darryl’s brother) has such poor line delivery that it makes me cringe every time. Almost every line he speaks.

The two guys from Newhart do not appear in this movie.

But it doesn’t make sense. Unless the Joker has people waiting in every building just encase the Batman crashes a vehicle the Joker didn’t know he had into it.
The Joker is followed by the camera with Vicki into the cathedral and nobody else and when he gets to the top he sends the bell down to kill the bat and block the doorway. So where do the guys come from?

What about the people who liked that film prior to Gareth Edwards being confirmed as director of Rogue One? Also, I’m guessing that most Star Wars fans dislike Robocop 2 even though it is directed by Irvin Kershner.

I really like Robocop 2, the only thing letting it down is it’s Robocop 2. Most of things it does had already been done in the first film only sometimes with less flare.
The scene where the previous Robocop 2s are shown to the board of OCP is genuinely funnier than anything in the first film and the scenes with Murphy’s wife are better than the same sort of thing in the first movie. But it’s redundant because something like that had already been done.

Buckaroo Banzai certainly isn’t so bad it’s good it’s just something that should be fun and is quirky and full of ideas but just doesn’t work for reasons which aren’t really easy to define.

It’s almost like the product of an alien culture where the points of reference are unknown so nothing it attempts to do really clicks.

If you sat down and tried to describe it to someone the film in their head particularly with that cast would be much better than the actual film.

The final chase is very tense. At it’s all about the main themes of good and evil, survival and slavery. Questions of identity and it’s final conclusion is actually rather gentle for such a brutal film.

What we are is fleeting and easily washed away, enjoy it while you can.

A simple but rather profound thing to say in a film that came out around the same time Arnie was adopting Roger Moore’s mantle of the pun quip to a violent death.

The "101 Ways to Improve Off-Topic" Thread
Time

I still would prefer more general chat sections.

If there was a totally un-moderated silly fun section and a serious discussion zone (with light moderation, total ban on profanity, insults etc) I think most of the flare ups we see here wouldn’t happen.

The personal problems sections are really useful and for the most part people are respectful there.
No moderation on highly contentious topics is inviting tension. I never said I would stop reading off topic. I started posting here again because people were posting about very deep depression and suicidal thoughts etc and it felt wrong not to add my sympathy to the rest of the people posting here. Once I did that it seemed a bit daft not to voice my opinions of the rating of Terminator movies etc. But I was very nervous about doing so because when I read certain opinions that goad me I respond and get very emotionally engaged in my responses and which generates similarly emotionally charged responses with people that my responses have upset. Life it too short.

Off-Topic as it currently exists doesn’t really work well anymore and hasn’t for years.

It seems daft to me to have a whole forum category devoted to General Chat with only one section called “Off Topic” in it. Surely general chat is off topic??

It’s not the best film ever but it’s quirky in a fun sort of way.
It feels like an 80s adaptation of a much better comic strip.
Some people love the Mystery Men film (which has a similarly quirky feel) but that isn’t anywhere near as good as Flaming Carrot or The Mystery Men comics. In some alternate dimension Buckaroo Banzai has a much better comic book existence of which the film is but a pale shadow.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

In ESB (all official versions) the lead walker has a red light on in one shot and not anywhere else.
The ROTJ example too is for one shot.
Ady went to great pains to remove that one shot in ESB.
In ROAST all the walkers seem to have the red eye, my (post suggestion closure) suggestion was that very briefly we see the light activated confirming that it’s not the default setting, it’s something that happens once in a while for an unexplained reason to try and reconcile what appears to happening. But Ady has already said the ST doesn’t figure into his revisited plans and it’s highly probably that the same is true with the spin offs. The first two trilogies are known things you can’t fix the yet to be made. By the time Ady completes ROTS:RE we will probably be on the SST

The Place to Go for Emotional Support
Time

Mike, I know there are lots of mental health mentoring charities out there. What they would do would train you to help someone else who has a situation a bit like yours. That might seem odd but if you have to contextualise the negative thoughts someone else might be having it will help you with your own thoughts. It’s also been scientifically demonstrated that helping other people has mental health benefits for the person providing the help.
It’s interesting that your current reflections on your well-being were triggered by a friend talking about their tragic suicide experiences. If suicidal thoughts are something you have experienced yourself I can well understand how that would be a distraction from nuts and bolts of living and I would recommend you talking to a human being about that.
If not maybe getting some sort of training to deal with other people in that situation would be of benefit.
We have training of that kind here in Scotland (most work places have a fire warden and a first aider and now they are trying to spread mental health first aid around which I think is a great idea). I know there are similar schemes in Australia and Canada because the scheme I attended shared materials with those projects. It might be worth while looking into similar programmes in your locality using the internet.
I always recommend rationalise feelings. Feelings are a reaction to something and if you can’t pin down a reason for why you feel a particular set of feelings and deal with that in a practical way it may well be that you have some sort of medical situation which could be fixable and a trip to the doctor might be all that’s needed. Good luck.

Asperger’s? So, not autism, or is that your other daughter?

It’s a spectrum disorder. Autism can have many causes but there is no credible evidence for links to any current vaccine.

I didn’t think there was any cause identified.

No single cause.
Like many other health and personality conditions there are genetic vectors but there seems to be a large chunk of environmental ones too (before birth and in early development) but nothing reliable to link it to vaccines.
Even if there were (and there AREN’T) the risk to a child (and children in general) from the diseases vaccines protect them from is much higher than a possible environmental vector for autism. While it can be very challenging raising a child with a disorder on the autism spectrum the same is true of many more common situations. It can be rewarding too.
It’s certainly not something that can switch on in later life like schizophrenia or epilepsy so all the significant causal influences come into play in the first couple of years of life.
In the past because of the age of presentation, associated behaviors would have been written off as naughtiness or daydreaming or childhood obsessions or depending on the manifestation of the disorder brightness or slowness. It still is with some.
Autistic adults like most adults are people with some aspect of their functioning less than optimised. It’s normal to be different.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Time

Cloak, if memory serves, is an important character for the Infinity War storyline and I can’t see the characters working as standalone films.
I’m surprised Adam Warlock hasn’t turned up yet (besides the Cocoon in Guardian of the Galaxy) I do hope he is handled well. I loved those strips as a child.
I think Marvel is doing really well.
The big movies always have something entertaining going on Agents of Shield kind of peaked in season 2 but it’s certainly better than season 1.
Agent Carter is fun. Daredevil and Jessica Jones are some of the best television I’ve seen in a long while.
I really enjoy the DC telly universe too (less serious but frothy fun) but so far the films have been awful.

I think Blade Runner is properly regarded. It’s got a complex and adult script, odd and compelling characters (nobody is really likeable as such but they are interesting). The acting is top drawer throughout and then comes the environment which is astonishing. When it first came out it was under-rated.
I showed it to a friend of mine who had come from a little village in India and hadn’t seen many western movies and he genuinely thought that American cities had flying cars while watching this.
Clearly Scott is a visualist only. The level of visual perfection in Blade Runner is still evident in Prometheus (if you ignore the makeup job on Guy Pierce) but with Alien and Blade Runner there were proper writers and actors that could cope with very limited character direction.
If younger Harrison was in Prometheus he would have probably not allowed his character to as much as a twit as the crew of Prometheus. That’s the difference between an artist and a professional, both can make money but it’s usually an accident when a professional makes art.
