The Place to Go for Emotional Support
Time

It’s been a week since I came back and the other half has been drunk every one of those nights (I’ve had to physically stop him from smashing his head into the television set a couple of times). Last night I mentioned maybe opening a door or window for a few seconds to get rid of the really strong smell of cigarettes wafting from the dining/computer table in the middle of the room. He then fixed on it (as is the way with some drunk people). He kept repeating that being his house it was his right to do as he pleased in it and he wasn’t going to stop smoking (I have never asked this, he volunteered to a few months back but the gum and patches have sat unopened next to the ash tray ever since) and once again if I don’t like it I can leave. Only I can’t until I get the necessary financial independence to do so. It’s apparently okay for me because I have all day to do whatever I like… like wash the dishes, the clothes, keep the house clean, stock up the food, try my best with the garden, pay the utility bills and volunteer for a mental health charity while looking and failing to find paid work. So I lost my temper, raised my voice, went to my room and he is still in bed at one in the afternoon. Booze has it’s place in society as a social lubricant and for some a brief chemical holiday but I really can’t see the point of blowing your mind and body night after night and then hiding from the effects well into the afternoon when you have work the next day. I’ve spent the last month away from home helping people who have lost much of their brilliance to chemical solutions to solvable life problems. It’s just so sad to see a rather clever and attractive person slowly drown in mediocre wine.

Maybe CBS has just cheaped out again, and the whole show is gonna look like this?.. 😉

It’s just test footage but it would have been a good idea to tart it up a bit for a first reveal… 😉
I’m a Ralph fan so I’m happy. Though the body is less a triangle and more the Star Fleet dart shape.
It’s not a swan like the Enterprise refit but it’s an interesting look. Lots of people couldn’t stand the Enterprise D when it first leaked to magazines and that’s now almost as much of an icon as the original series ship.

RIP VHS
Time

Actually I find classic Doctor Who episodes feel more authentic when watched on VHS than on DVD because my parents house had terrible broadcast reception and we would frequently get ghosting and the like so it recreates the experience of watching it originally to not have the clarity of a restored DVD presentation. The only thing I really like about the DVDs are the extras.

My best friend passed away last night. Heart attack. He was only 45. I’m still in shock. He was truly a brother to me.
It feel silly to be posting this here, but I’ve already done the rounds of phone calls and emails telling everyone and I need an outlet of some kind I guess.
He never posted here, but looked to me to keep him informed about Despecialized and Revisited. He loved Harmy’s work and was beyond excited for ESB:R.
My world is very different now.

As someone who almost experienced this a few weeks back all I can say is probably going to sound like a cliche or glib.
Mortality and I have not seen eye to eye for a while but it’s instances like this that really make me want kick death in the nuts (You hold his shoulders and I’ll put my big pointy boots on).
Genuinely saddened to read this. When Ady does finally complete his magnificent octopus just imagine your pal looking out of the windows of your eyes and watching it with you.

Why would anybody want to watch a VHS today?

I’ve got hundreds of VHS tapes.
I watch at least one a week.
I’ve got an untouched VHS player still in it’s box should the heads die on the one I have now but it’s built like a tank. It was designed as a car VCR so I doubt if Vuvuzilla could squash it.

How often does this dude flood the main page with that sort of nonsense? This is the first time I’ve seen it.

Check out General Star Wars Discussion right now, and this CLIPPED

Jesus fucking Christ man remove that link, or at least put a warning. I’m at work! That could totally fuck someone over, I didn’t know he was posting porn I just saw the crazy thread titles.

Fuck me man.

I work at a mental health charity and while I was waiting for one of my clients to turn up I thought I’d check up on the site for a bit. It was lucky nobody saw what was calculatedly offensive material. I worry about the mental health of someone who repeatedly does this sort out of thing.

I’ve stupidly lost my phone which had my train and bus pass in it. I have to wait a few minutes to see if the police have it and until 2 to see if the bus company has it. I’ve been a bit stressed recently so it couldn’t have happened at a worse time for me. I’m due to go back home on Monday. I’m not sure if my train ticket is valid without my train pass. Arrrrgh!

+++Phewww ! A nice anonymous person handed it into the police so I’m off to claim it YAY!

The difference is that “Love the sinner, hate the sin” is usually referring to homosexuality. In that case, the ‘sin’ is a part of who they are, and something they can’t change. Religion is a belief, that can indeed be changed.

How is that anti-religion or bigoted at all?

Because he’s religious and the only way in his mind that he can see people hating religion is being afflicted with the symptoms of being a zealot or having dogmatic hatred. So I guess if you hate the feminazi rhetoric that means you’re bigoted because reasons.

Very intelligent post. Since you do not actually argue my points with any skill, I’ll just continue believing I was right about you.

There’s nothing to really argue. You’re throwing out baseless claims because you’re overly sensitive about your religion.

Nothing to argue? More likely you’re too lazy or stupid to formulate a coherent argument.

And not all religions, even within Christianity, are as anti-gay as you portray. But then, that would avoid stereotyping religion.

There were some branches of Hinduism that didn’t mind it. Greek paganism and the British end of Quakerism but generally speaking almost all religions are down on homosexuality, even the Buddhists.

I brought some coloured paper in and he did a great big picture of under the sea with fishes and sponges and seaweed etc. It was just like being back at college with him. He still got my name wrong but differently wrong this time. His brother in-law is apparently me which makes me feel a little better. Included as an alias

Furthermore, the only ones who have any understanding of how things might happen in the future for that fetus are the parents, and they’re the only ones that should get to decide if that future is one worth pursing.

Not wanting their parents to make decisions for them is what motivates people to hitchhike to New York City at age 15.

Yes but not at minus eight months.

My fore-mentioned pal who had heart attack/stroke in India flew back a couple of days ago. He keeps getting my name wrong and thinks I live in Broccoli or Italy but we shared an ice-cream and I got him to try and scribble with both hands which considering the stroke damage was quite something.(he is a fine artist/sculpture so hopefully he will recover some of that ability).
He will soon be moved to specialist stroke unit but it’s nice to see him still alive and sort of himself. He’s lost a bit of weight and looks less stressed too.

I hate to continue this off topicness, but I feel like all the Matt painting needs is an increase in contrast and it would blend much better.

Like the similar paintings in ESB it’s just too dead to fit realistically and needs replacing. Which it will. And it will be great.

Well at least to me a fetus is not really a person yet. Also let’s not forget that some abortions are for women impregnated by their rapist so in that case I think it’s definitely justified to get an abortion.

What makes a person a person? Who decides what falls under that definition? Is it justifiable to subject a fetus to the kind of pain that they experience during an abortion? Would not the same done to another non-person, such as a puppy, be considered horrific cruelty?

http://www.salon.com/2013/08/07/fetal_pain_is_a_lie_how_phony_science_took_over_the_abortion_debate/

Interesting, though you may want to get in the habit of finding more credible sources, not tabloids, to substantiate your claims, like:

http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=201429&resultclick=1

(The first Google result when I searched “fetal pain”).

Partial-birth abortions are still pretty horrific. I also suspect that people would think it cruel to perform saline injections on fish, or to cut them to pieces while they are still living, despite their inability to feel pain in the way we do.

In the case of rape, why is it justifiable to end a third party’s life (that of a not fully developed human being who is completely dependent on his mother, but that also describes a one-year old) because they are a product of violence done to you?

Do you eat meat? Those animals feel more pain that most of the aborted fetuses, which are done at 20 weeks or earlier. How can you justify ending those animal’s lives simply for your pleasure?

I think their lives should be ended as painlessly as possible. Note that without human protection, these animals would have to deal with the far more painful diseases and carnivorous animals, such as wolves, that nature has to offer.

Look up fish pain and you will get very mixed results, follow the trail one way and you get animal rights activists follow it in the other direction and you will find the fishing industry. Science is divided. All I can say is anything emotionally that humans do can be seen in the animal kingdom. Even some higher skilled activity like engineering can be found in the arachnid and insect worlds. Genuine cruelty like cetaceans torturing seals to something like this https://youtu.be/ntIBAzO3xV8 convinced me that the only difference of significance between us and other animals is we can write down our thoughts and share them down the generations. A Zygote feels no pain a more developed fetus does but it can’t suffer. Clearly a penguin can suffer. A penguin therefore is more of a person than a human fetus.

Becoming a priest, nun, or monk is a choice. Celibacy is not imposed on anyone, but those who choose it seem to get by just fine. Black people, on the other hand, do not choose to be black.

Some opt to be not black : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-20444798

There is a history of people using the celebate status of those roles to hide shamed sexual preferences or hidden desires. But it’s a question of Catholicism ethics. It has no biblical endorsement but people know the score when they join up.
