Info: Back to the Future - without DNR & EE

Many cinemas actually use BDs for showing older movies.

That was not the case, as there were exploitation visa numbers for each one that don't appear in the Blu-ray subtitles. But I do suspect that's what they did in another theater I went some months ago to see Forrest Gump: the subtitles were so badly done and had the same font as on the Blu-ray. What a pity! And the whole thing lacked some definition.

Color matching and prediction: color correction tool v1.3 released!
Time

Well, maybe it's not supposed to be that dark. But it does give the scene a creepy mood that I like better and helps make the T-Rex more real. When brighten, you see just by looking at his feet that it's fake.

Anyway, when starting with the 2D Blu-ray :

... and matching it to the 3D Blu-ray :

... I obtain this :

So it is possible to have a Jurassic Park with better colors and not DNRed like hell. It's still darker than the 2D, but less than the 35mm scan... and unfortunately the feet reveal the phony business.

Raiders of the Lost Ark - 35 mm regrade (a WIP)
Time

Definitely looks better than the 1st clip. Especially in the dark shots. Have you consider using Chewtobacca's Blu-ray based on Wowow broadcast and another HD broadcast to get rid of Wowow subtitle and logo instead of the official Blu-ray? Or maybe both of them, to have the best of the 2, as the official Blu-ray digitally switched on a lightbulb in the end and, if I remember correctly, zoomed in some shots in the submarine hangar. And on top of that, the official Blu-ray has a weird "waving lines" effect, maybe a side effect of optical effects, I don't know, as in the very beginning, on the mountain shot at the bottom of the frame, and on a few occasions later in the movie.

Info: The Look of Terminator 2
Time

I like your shot of the T-1000 facing us in the steel factory, with the chains behind him and liquid steel in fusion. Less orange, more yellow and the whole shot looks as if it was 35mm in its texture, well, you know. Apart from that one, the one with Arnold smiling at his Minigun and Arnold in the desert are fine, but the rest... no way. I have never that blue and absolutley nowhere near that amount of saturation.

Terminator (1984) - Foreign versions! (now just Italian) (* unfinished project *)
Time

There appears to be a textless remastered master somewhere accessible to professionnals, as TCM France aired last year the remastered Terminator with French texts. It's the first time I saw it like that:

The French MGM "Édition collector" 2 DVD set from 2001 also has the introduction text and time and place burnt-ins removed. And we also missed the voice-over on them. It was all replaced by subtitles. It's the same discs in Belgium, only the packaging was different.

And then, for the Ultimate Edition in 2005, they changed the master, so the texts were back in and the voices, too (except for the one on "Los Angeles, 1984. 1h52").

Surely France had a localized version! Any French owner of Terminator on LD/VHS?

As a kid, I've always seen The Terminator with English opening text and time and place informations such as "Los Angeles, 2029 AD" and "Los Angeles, 1984" plus the time that I don't remember (something like 1:22 AM or whatever). Actually, the original French dub even put a voice-over to translate all that. That's almost still the case now on Blu-ray, except for the "Los Angeles, 1984" that's now mute.

Info Wanted: Question regarding 'Jurassic Park 3D'... (and info)
Time

So, is this the thread where the Jurassic Park 35mm release is discussed?

Anyway, I just watched it, and it was indeed a pretty cool experience. I saw it in theater in 1993 and couldn't remember how it looked. So now, I know that the 3D Blu-ray is a close match colorwise.

Now I know that this is a raw v1.0 that I just watched, but here's my comments anyway, and I'm sure the guys behind it are already aware of these:

- colors do look pale. I believe it would need to be more saturated.

- night scenes are really dark. Is that supposed to be so dark? Maybe to create a creepy mood? I don't know, but that's not how it looks on video since whenever and a lot of details are lost in this dark environment, even on the actors' faces.

- some stabilization would be good, as the movie shakes on many occasions.

- there are some brightness on the left and right sides that is very noticeable, especially in the beginning and ending credits, where the whole frame is black, except for the inscriptions of the credits of course.

And finally, on the plus side: digital creatures do integrate a lot better on film, that's for sure. The T-Rex, the raptors, the galimimuses never looked so real on video. So thanks. Looking forward for the next v2.0 release.
