Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

a truly countless number of fans have told us that they would love to see and own the original version that they remember experiencing in theaters," said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts and Senior Vice President of Lucasfilm Ltd. "We returned to the Lucasfilm Archives to search exhaustively for source material that could be presented on DVD.

Now I get it, we were supposed to read that in a sarcastic voice. The blu is probably going to bring a whole new wave of bullshit about how impractical and expensive it would have been to do the OT. Strangely, it will mostly come from unpaid shills on the internet, deep in their religious loyalty, not even from LFL.

My tapes are gone but I'm almost positive it was visually the same except for that tail end voiceover going over the logo graphic for each respective film. i.e.

which could maybe be swiped from the trailers? not 100% but pretty sure.

Hmm, it seems tough to avoid all the frowning and foreboding about how something's unusual or wrong with the main character no matter what else is cut or added.  (unless Anakin "dies" as a dumbass kid trying to fly a spaceship but who just crashes right into the ground. And the rest of the trilogy is just Obi-Wan, P.I.  cleaning up everyone else's mess. Which would be awesome)

I thought this was interesting when it comes to the collars-being-fixed issue. The odds seem to be against it the way things are now, even if the more obvious mistakes are corrected. (What do we consider "fixed" anyway)?

...and WE get the bad rap!!!!!

This new breed of fan (not just with Star Wars but superheroes or twilight or whatever it is) seems to be more like a cult member, and they never react well to their pretend daddy being questioned. Now that they can hide behind a computer they don't have to develop a personality and can just be a complete shitbird forever. (I bet we'd be surprised how old a lot of these guys are, so this isn't just a "what's with kids today?" thing.)

The creepy part is that the revisionism is aimed so squarely at young people who don't know any better, it doesn't seem to matter to LFL that they eventually become old enough to hear something different. Because by then there's a new wave of kids to sell it to, so who cares? Anyway, unless you're a kid, the revisionism doesn't even make sense if you think about it too much (which I sure do: "Why the hell would Han stand that close to Jabba's mouth?" "Why would those pedestrians walk that close to a GIANT DINOSAUR'S ASSHOLE?" etc. etc.)

The thing that makes it kind of impossible to talk to those guys is this notion that there's a "double standard" like it's the new civil rights movement or some shit. The old trilogy gets a pass on things that the new one doesn't even though they are really the same, etc.. Why does this "double standard" exist? Out of some mysterious axe to grind, I guess who the fuck knows.  (And hey, let's say it's true, and people have their initial reaction but then articulate it improperly. Now what? Hold them in contempt of Star Wars Court?)
