Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

They already have a couple guys who are genuinely like that and seem to have ongoing carte blanche.

It's probably less about blu-ray surviving or succeeding as a business and more about that forum wanting their particular fetish to always be celebrated and free of negative thetans, like you see with all your various superfans.

Adywan is fighting the good fight over there, gotta like that. I've been lurking there since the May 4 thing, and it really is comical, including the posts that get deleted vs. the ones that don't, etc.. But there is actually something strangely reassuring to me about the whole thing, those 8 or 9 guys that keep falling over themselves to defend the honor of LFL are some Real Weirdos. It reflects so poorly on the current demographic state of the superfan and I don't think that can hurt.

What do you LIKE about the Prequels?
Time

Eh, I don't hate them, I just think it would be cooler if they never happened. I would like them to go away now, like relatives who stayed too long. Obi- Wan and the emperor had many good moments, so there's that.

Also, Phantom Menace really does have a level of lush detail that none of the other 5 really have, so it's a unique mix of styles. a political story, a kid's adventure and a space-travelogue, you probably won't ever see that again.

This is why I wonder about the availability of stuff like Taxi Driver, Close Encounters, or maybe ST: The Motion Picture and Alien.

I believe none of those are out there. But JAWS is a good one, also you can get MEAN STREETS, which I'm fond of, although it's very low budget. The music and atmosphere is good for mono somehow.

Not a quote from Lucas, but from Sydney Pollack, (part of the same Film Foundation, when testifying at the same time GL did):

"Like all accurate representations of who and what we were, they deserve preservation in their authentic form. Like a building, a photograph, or a document it helps locate us in time and gives us a sense of the geography of our lives. We need an accurate understanding of the past in order to point us accurately toward the future."

That I can agree with but in the case of the soundmixes it's also damn difficult to say which one is the real true original.

I would think it's gotta be the 70mm since those prints needed more lead time to be made, so would have been completed first?

edit-Now I'm wondering if the credits are different because of the lab used. I believe it was not unheard of for more than one lab to handle the prints depending on region. In other words, one lab for the New York prints, another for L.A. (In which case it's time for a Tupac/Biggie style east coast vs. west coast war.)

But what's interesting is how fragile they are about this. It's not enough they're getting what they want, they're really delicate about just having any negative thetans introduced into the conversation. Which is a good thing because it keeps the issue more alive and noisy than if they were secure enough to just ignore us.

That's weird. My first thought was that actually supports the kooky Marcia Lucas theory, (since she'd be entitled to half of "STAR WARS-1977" but not "Star Wars Episode IV A NEW HOPE -1997".) But maybe there actually is something to that? It sounds similar to what happened with Blade Runner, in that from 1992 to 2006-ish, Jerry Perenchio's contention was that Warner could release the '92 version (for which they worked out a deal for its theatrical release) but not any previous or future versions without them undergoing a separate deal.

Here's a blurb of John Williams talking about changing the films:

The Hollywood Film Music Reader by Mervyn Cooke

http://books.google.com/books?id=FhUZ4nphj58C&pg=PA243&dq=%22george+lucas%22+preservation&hl=en&ei=_sj_TbS9Iqbw0gH3mPHEAw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CC8Q6AEwATgK#v=onepage&q=%22george%20lucas%22%20preservation&f=false

When he mentions being given a version to work from that had the tempo, is this what he's talking about? I wonder if he knew the temp music was from a television special
