OT Deleted Scenes Discussion
Time

Tosche station is great to see but I'm glad it's not in. Besides pacing etc., cutting it has the nice effect of making Luke's life seem more shitty. Which makes the adventure of it all more appealing to Luke (and us.)

EMPIRE is mostly good stuff but it's perfect as is and I so don't care about wampas. Never understood why they even bothered with that so much during scripting/production. The bit where concerned Han and the gang are watching Luke in the tank is a nice moment though, I can't see the harm leaving that in, a human moment and it's short.

Luke's introduction and the green saber reveal are better in the actual movie, but the other stuff from JEDI I would've liked left in. (and Lucas' second-unit side project/obsession, the musical number, left out). The moment with Luke and Han under the falcon is a great bookend to the last time they saw each other. As for Jerjerrod's death star scene being too much like the first movie, I think that ship already sailed so it should've stayed.

Han Solo's bar skank is pretty hot.

The DVD had the original mono, did they get rid of that for the BD?? That would be awful, I can't stand that remixed mess half the time. I think the only place the new 5.1 was superior was when the tanker truck explodes.

Van Ling said it was like pulling teeth just getting the studio to include the mono on that dvd (and he said the blu was cranked out without it and that it'll be a whole big thing again next time).

All these supposedly discerning reviewers giving Star Wars a soft pass are probably just worried about appearing too highbrow and criterion-y for their site traffic.

How do others see the originaltrilogy.com community?

All you have to do is spend 5 minutes looking around the internet and you'll see that this place is very chill and level-headed by internet standards. If it offends you then you're really a delicate flower. TFN guys who are over age 13 (and I'd be willing to bet basically everybody who thinks this place is some kind of hate crime is a current or former TFN guy) just say that stuff because hey, people are touchy about their religion. And probably touchy about the religion being mostly a punchline for several years now.

That new Fett shot is interesting. The haphazard way things are changed/not changed in this set feels like different projects at LFL bleeding into each other. (cataloging/digitizing old material, looking for stuff to be used for books and stuff, or maybe moved from the ranch to the new digs in the city, the blu-ray, the 3D tests).

Why do you think he does it?
Time

(I actually like the first 2/3 of Crystal Skull!)

To me it seems GL likes the hustling. Not in a greedy, cheapskate miserly way, but just the whole game of it. He always seems genuinely engaged and interested at industry things, and he seems hyper-aware of what everything in the biz costs and what everything makes and how to shave/raise those numbers in new ways. (which is funny for a guy who makes such a big show about not living in/going Hollywood) I think that's fun for him and we know from his own words that making movies is no fun at all. I don't think he can relate to that starry-eyed, childlike love of movies/moviefan thing the way Spielberg can because he was just never that guy. He was into getting more rpms from an engine and still is. Which is perfectly cool, it's just a bummer for us because he can't even relate to the mere idea that anyone would possibly care about using old, broken, inferior parts.

If you're holding out for a used copy I would start haunting your local used music/movies place. Those promo copies (with the line drawn through the UPC) will be showing up and maybe you'll get lucky or the employee will be cool and hold one for you if it comes in. It'll probably cost the same as getting it new at Best Buy but, hey.

Possible film warping? Jeez, JEDI just cannot catch a break. Like that movie isn't troubled enough. (as for the guy blogging about Bill Hunt, I find it worse when the person actually IS articulate. I just find it nasty when smart people can somehow be actively against film preservation, and on top of that are passing judgment on people based solely on their desire to buy 3 old movies. It's gross.)

LOL!---Regarding RAH's restoration of the Godfather---------Francis Ford Coppola admitted he could not even remember how the film  looked in it's original theatrical release.

Yet an anonymouse internet poster claims he can remember how "brilliant " Star Wars looked(over 25 years ago!).

I saw Star wars twice theatrically(1981 and 1983) and I cannot remember one  way or the other in 2011 wether the prints I saw were vibrant or dull or dirty or clean.

I'll stick with that 1982 VHS for reference for the time being

Do you really think Coppola meant that in the same way at all?

 Really?

That has GOT to be the SAME PERSON who wrote this bit of wisdom on one of my YouTube uploads:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKtciRCVpFE

"....If blu-ray remastering were applied to the originals, it would only serve to enhance the imperfections. So the dvds of the original cuts from a few years back are probably your best bet. Plenty hardcore fans even boycotted the laserdisc remastering from 20yrs ago, so blu-ray remastering would only change it further....."

So, let me get this straight-----the OT has too many imperfections to be seen on an HDTV screen?!

Having lurked the various spots since May 4th, I can say they all have THAT GUY. Sometimes it's gotta be the same person, sometimes it's a guy just like him. If it's a very star warsy place, there's probably 3 of them. When somebody sets him straight he says something inane or ignores it completely, waits a week and starts in again. It's like having the shittiest mascot ever.

At this point, speaking only for myself, I say fuck the negative. They aren't competent to handle that kind of job anyway and doing it the so-called "Lauzrika-Method" (since Blade Runner-Original Flavor didn't use the negative) is proven and is an incredibly reasonable thing (in cost and time) to be asking for. An existing sound mix and an IP is harder for them to screw up, and cheaper and easier, for when we get to the part where they play the sad sack martyr about making the effort & spending the cash.

The art looks very much like a children's storybook, and like the big sticker that says "90 minutes OF SPOOFS!" it tells us who they are really trying to hook here. Screaming kids and their Disney Moms (and Jay Leno grandparents). The rest of us are presumed to show up no matter what and will always be there so why bother selling to that crowd.
