I remember that Charlie Rose episode, he was very frank about the financial factor. He really wanted LFL to be a true heavyweight, he wasnt thinking of his personal wealth but the company needed it. Plus He'd just spent a LOT of money on Young Indy, including whole episodes that never even aired. That ain't cheap.

The jabba band is a weird one, I know they added a shot of boba fett hitting on a dancer, maybe they had to make up for those frames on the music track somewhere. I also have no idea if that makes sense.

To me, one of the music casualties is the great cue that accompanies the first shot of the X-wings approaching the Death Star. Instead of entering from off camera, which the music was done very precisely for, the digital ships are already there, the engines are already loud, etc.

Hey that's pretty cool, good job. It's kind of amazing that it's now possible to have what amounts to a sunday morning current events discussion show, but about Star Wars.

Fox would be the distributor but that's not the same thing as Fox making the decisions regarding it. Fox released the Bond box, but they don't decide what's on it or whether it will happen or not happen. They just get to be the venue used.

These guys always willfully ignore a major reason Lucas and Spielberg and the others were there in the first place, to speak to the value of a film as a true snapshot of its time. (To say nothing of the fact that the EMPIRE/JEDI special editions would have been illegal if Lucas had gotten what he wanted that day.)

Except for the "ep. IV", none of the pre-97 variations were unusual at all.

I thought this was worth its own thread. It's an amazing thing that most people would not do. I would probably waste (?) most of it on whores, so seriously, here's to George Lucas.

They mentioned "side" movies happening in additon to the 7-9 trilogy, like a Boba Fett movie or whatever. If they did a Mad Max/Sergio Leone-style Kenobi movie with Ewan that would be all the prequel I'd ever need.

They didn't just spend 4 billion dollars on this thing to say "eh, they made enough on discs last year. Without us."

I think it helps. Fox always wants to put out the OT, dealing with anyone else will be easier than the brick wall.

Ok, so even after 2020, Fox still owns distribution of episode IV in perpetuity, doesn't that put the final nail in the idea that the special edition is a wholly new thing created in 1997?

I can't imagine they'd build a new trilogy around Ford/Fisher/Hamill, but I would think cameos would be distracting as hell. (maybe they'll get paid to do a post-credits scene for JEDI 3D).

I think Fox retains control over any distribution of the existing movies, so if the originals were to be done at last, maybe they'd handle it, not Disney?

As crass and lame as the situation has been with the original versions, seeing GL hand it over to be a regular franchise instead of his personal, fetishy, weirdo playground is a little sad. Kennedy is cool and I'm sure she's good for the job. I would hope this is good news for the OT. You would think that, P.R.-wise, it would get off on the wrong foot if they said "We have billions of dollars, all the resources available on earth, tons of new stuff on the way, but fuck those old movies that got us here."

Yeah, it's another weird statement I never got. You don't make a positive from a positive. Or at least you're not supposed to. Maybe there was an underground cottage industry at Fox, making straight dupe bootlegs.

Pretty neat. I know JEDI is the one where, since VCRs had really taken off, they were really trying to keep a lid on bootlegs. But at the same time it was a losing battle since it was the only one of the three that had a modern-style wide opening weekend, which made keeping track of all those prints a lot harder.

The end of THUNDERBALL still sounds weird to me. I don't know why it's so hard to include the U.S. version with the regular Barry soundtrack.

That looks pretty cool. I never really got into it but I'll try again. Obi-Wan flying around with a jetpack is pretty much all I wanted out of new Star Wars anyway.
