If you haven't seen the theatrical cut of Galactica 1980, it's pretty hilarious.

Here's something weird. The NBC-universal streaming site has this but it ends when they go to New York. I had never seen it before so, now I'm annoyed. I guess I can just watch the wolfman jack episode since that's more or less where it ended but I wanted to see what other goofy edits were made to make this into a "movie".

• Yeah the chase was shot in hawaii, somehow they even managed to make a real jungle look like a cartoon. Some of the shots in SKULL are just so amazingly bad it was a little shocking that ILM did them, usually that means they were added late in the game, but who knows with that movie. 

I bought a bunch of them in the 90s and never finished most of them, they were so lame. The thrawn trilogy is pretty  good though. Maybe because its the only one written without knowing it was just part of a big boring machine that never ends.

The schedule does seem kind of intimidating. The new Star Wars that has to launch the next 20 years of everything and also doesn't squander the return of han and luke and also doesn't look like green screen shit has to be done in 20 months. Go.

It will be interesting to see how Kathleen Kennedy handles the question, which is sure to come up, at the big convention next week. I think this is her first appearance. I hope she doesn't get scared off. She looks out on a sea of guys arguing about prequels and special editions, mutters "I've made a huge mistake."

It's just an editing trick, playing with time to get the most from the scene. The screen goes white from han firing then you see one frame of greedo before he blows up because it has more impact than if he was already blowing up when we cut to him. It's like that gag you've seen in a ton of movies where they show the same explosion a bunch of times from different angles.

We know now that some actual prints were made right off the negative and they would have had the subtitles, so that laserdisc interview makes even less sense to me now. The guy seems to be making a leap that the whole movie is a generation away just because the subtitles are present.

Plus a lot of criterion are made from an IP and not the neg but still look fantastic, which makes things simpler for Star Wars. And the discs are common enough now that its gotten impossible to claim it's not mainstream or commercial enough to do the identical work done for BATTLE OF ALGIERS.

Ideally, they'll just decide fans and all their little wish lists can suck it, since  the basic standard is what it is, it's not up to the fans. A good Blade Runner '82 disc is easy, affordable and instantly profitable to do and anyone still complaining after that will be so marginal they'll be easily ignored.

I haven't seen these in years but my recollection is that JEDI looked, color wise anyway, a lot nicer than the blah 93/95 version.

It's what you hear in the ride line, like you're in a waiting lounge.

More 35mm film from the archives getting scanned and sold that isn't the actual movie. They're just screwing with me at this point.

I think the new version of the scene with Donald pleasance and the roommate switch is genuinely better now. But overall, the "director's cut" is too disneyland. The city should just be gross and unpleasant and not cool to look at.

I would go with something like GHOSTBUSTERS and BEVERLY HILLS COP, only because of 2 things: the similarly broad appeal (lots and lots of people from all the demos turned out for it and loved it) and that mix of playing it straight and goofy that is really difficult to pull off now for some reason. Maybe because people are way more anal about everything striking a consistent tone and blah blah blah, but who knows. When you see NEW HOPE with a crowd it's always surprising how much people laugh, even Empire and Jedi never really managed that.

I remember sitting on the ground for hours, waiting in a line that went out into the street, screwing up traffic. (and it wasn't even opening day). The crowd really ate it up, especially the last 15 minutes, I've never seen an audience react like that during the day. Also, we stared at this cardboard display in the lobby all day:

Honestly, it was all good for me until 2004-6. Sequels and spinoffs of varying quality is perfectly normal and fine, actively shitting on old fans and the actual film foundation of the whole thing is unheard of and gross. I tossed  20+ years of unswerving brand loyalty right out the window.

The London lab was the only one that hadn't shut down yet, I think the UK was all of it.

I would love to see that version. I get that they thought it was missing some relatable emotional angle, but I don't  think the movie recovered from being changed so much after the fact. It's  like they skipped right to the Special Edition stage of fuckuppery without us ever getting to see the original.

Prequelheads have been harping on this ideas for years, that saying "the force runs strong in my family" in JEDI was already just midichlorians by another name, as if it excludes everyone else, which is ridiculous. 

I think that book is about half old, half new. The old being the more obvious stuff you've already seen in those Art Of books and other promo stuff from the 77-83 era.

Harris said that several years ago, could be wrong but I think things have changed.

He was in mission impossible 3 so i guess it makes sense. Plus girls really love him and they're always dying to get more girls to get into Star Wars.

Interesting that filoni makes a point to mention the "journalistic" palette and color tones of NEW HOPE that aren't even there anymore.

That painting was done for a book in the mid 90s.
