Ok, i've tweaked a few things in the past couple of days but i will be doing no more work on this edit. The majority of fans like what i have done and that is all that matters to me. I want to put this edit to rest so i can have a break and then concentrate on ESB. I don't care if some of the FX aren't great or that elements don't match. the vision i had for the edit is now on screen and i had to do this using whatever footage i possibly could. I'd never done FX before and i am proud of what i have accomplished so this will be my last word on any changes happening for the DVD versions of ANH. Here's the changes:

Removed the ILM crew member from the droid sale
Removed the wire and batteries seen up Luke's sleeve in Ben's hut
Removed the remaining wires from Ben's sleeve during the sabre fight
Ponad Baba's arm will be swapped for Dr. Evazan' s arm & hand
Slight tweak to the TIE approach. The background & camera is no longer static at the beginning & a new Death Star surface
Fixed the gunport shot during the TIE battle where the gun remains static when Han swings the chair and the gun can clearly be seen over the top of the chair instead of behind it
Credits fixed

As for the sabers being too fat then just have a look at the state of the originals. the width is all over the place throughout. When rotoscoping i had to make them slightly fatter in a lot of shots because the blade is all over the place and has really jagged edges and as was mentioned by Fuser the blades are never the same thickness during ESB & ROTJ an actually get fatter than the ones i did at times too.

Ady, those are great additional "tweaks" and I'm glad to hear you've finally closed the book on this project for good. I think you've gone above and beyond what all of us expected from this edit and I can't wait to see the DVD in all of its' glory. Thank you for everything you've done and for creating a version of Star Wars that far exceeds anything we've ever seen before.

Ady,

I just wanted to make a quick post to offer you encouragement(as I've been doing since the beginning) and to tell you that you shouldn't listen to anybody when it comes to this edit. It's your baby and you should do with it whatever makes you happy. Sadly, now you see how shallow and hypocritical a lot of SW fans are. They bash Lucas and tell you how great you are one minute, then when they don't agree with one of your changes they do the same thing to you they've been doing to George all these years. Screw 'em, dude!!! You've singlehandedly done the best SW edit and possibly the best fan edit EVER so if people can't appreciate that they don't deserve to watch your work in the first place.

Come to think of it this is one of the most pleasant forums I visit - many others would have descended into a flame war over this sort of thing..

Totally agree. I hope we can keep the good natured tone of this thread without it devolving into the typical SW bitchfest. I think we owe it to Ady for all the work he's done.

Finally, it still looks a little too "clean." I know you guys all want the blood completely gone, but perhaps some ash chunks that have broken off from the stump as it hit the floor? After all, if this weapon creates a cut with 3rd degree burns along the edge, it'd be like charcoal, and that stuff crumbles off when struck.

Good point.

Well, after re-watching the cantina scene a couple of times, I have to agree with what most people have already said. The shot of the severed arm just doesn't look right and kinda sticks out in an otherwise perfect edit. With all the work that has been done on this project so far I think it's probably for the best to take a little time to re-work that shot so it blends in better with the movie. Ady's last couple of posts sound like he might be considering some adjustment to the shot so I'm confident that it will be perfect on the DVD release.

By the way, as far as the desaturated color on board of the Death Star, I personally think that's a very welcome improvement. The Death Star is supposed to be very drab and gray in my opinion that's how it always should've looked.

If there's one thing Adywan has shown throughout the 162 pages of this thread it's that he is about the most level-headed guy around. Honestly, I don't think he minds if people make suggestions or point out things that he may have missed so it's certainly not going to ruffle his feathers if people complain about something. Having said that, this whole debate about the severed arm is making a mountain out of a molehill. It's one shot out of a 2 hour film and personally it's a take it or leave it kind of scenario. If I had to choose, I'd probably go with the bloody stump from the original movie because as it was pointed out earlier, there was blood sprayed when Maul was cut in half. However, if Ady wants it this way it's more than his right to do it and nobody should complain. After all the work he's done and the gift he's given us the only one with any say so in this matter should be him.

By the way, Ady, over at the fanedit.org forums they're absolutely RAVING about the work you've done on this. Your work is appreciated in places outside this forum as well.

Ady,

I just want to raise my glass and toast you for this fantastic piece of work you've given us!!! I downloaded the Xvid yesterday and I hadn't really planned on watching the whole thing on my PC monitor, but I got so immersed that I just couldn't help myself. It's sheer genius, my friend, and you have put George Lucas to shame. Now I'm literally frothing at the mouth for the DVD version so I can watch it in my home theater setup.

100% complete on the torrent download. WooHoo!!! I'll be seeding for awhile so hopefully it will go quickly for all those going the torrent route. Took me about 8 hrs. which is pretty long for a less than 2GB file, but I was also one of the first people to jump on as a leecher so it probably will go a lot quicker now that there are more seeders.

Thanks

Dude,

I think Adywan has done more than enough for everybody without asking him for something else(especially Titanic in a Star Wars thread). Let's keep it on topic.

Well i have just begun to create the DVD scructure. I have the chapter markers set and the subtitle track finished. Work has started on the menus now. I still have the 2 shots left to complete but i am still able to work on the DVD with a quick render i did yesterday so i can just replace that with the finished one when needed. I hit a snag with the encoding though. i re3ndered the complete movie using CCE and it looked great apart from the briefing room scene. It just didn't like the red graphics and seem to separate the colours slightly which caused a flickering effect when viewed on the TV. I've now changed to Procoder 3 for the rendering and this problem has gone away and the results are as good, if not better, than CCE but with a fraction of the rendering time. Even the DVD-5 test looks great on the TV. I've also redone the audio mix slightly too. I really didn't like the way that John Williams music had been pushed into the background for the sake of soundFX and i hadn't restored the music enough to my liking in my original mix in a couple of places so that needed to be redone. Hopefully it won't be too long to wait now. Just have to finish Ponda baba's hand replacement still, which is taking longer than i had hoped and i have almost all the frames needed for the TIE approach. Nearly there

Rock on, Ady. We're all cheering for you as it enters the home stretch.

Well its all going great at the moment. Only a few shots left now. I've just finished all the hologram shots for the rebel control room table during the battle that had plagued me for months. They all just suddenly fell into place after having the X-mas break so i'm well chuffed. If all goes according to plan you should see the XVID & DVD-5 barebones appear within the next couple of weeks with the DVD-9 & the NTSC versions appearing a few weeks after (if not sooner)

No better way to ring in the New Year than to finally see your long awaited project, Ady. We all salute you and the work you've done on this edit.

Eros,

You basically just told Adywan his project is going to look like shit because it's being released on DVD. Obviously he's not able to put it out on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD so what do you expect him to do? Making a comment like that is just plain rude and absolutely adds nothing to the discussion. I'm sure if you had ever done anywhere close to the amount of work on a project that Adywan has done on this you might be a little more appreciative of what he's doing. As it stands you just come off looking like an ass.

By the way, I have plenty of DVDs(both DVD-5 and DVD-9) that look perfectly fine on a big screen. Sure they don't look as good as hi-def, but they still look damn good.
