Angel, you actually proved my point with that podcar comparison shot. The illusion of the podcar becoming darker as it passes the sun is due to the light bleed surrounding the object fully. As you can clearly see the podcar is in fact the same brightness but the illusion is created. Now the falcon doesn't pass the sun so the light bleeds all around it so the illusion of it becoming darker wouldn't be there. Don't forget that this is still a work in progress so all the colouring etc is incomplete. But the falcon DOES have a strong orange hue.  It also hasn't had the shadow pass added as it flies behind the cloud and the engine glows from the pod cars is missing also. But they are above the clouds so light is bouncing from all around off the clouds which would light up the underside of the falcon. The falcon has never been as dark as the cloud it passes and darkening it much more looks odd. But the lighting on the original falcon shot as it passes the cloud is wrong as it has the entire light source coming from below, which made the original falcon look darker.

And angel, the AVCHD TIEs were returned to how they looked originally before the red tint added in 2004 as that was a '97 preservation. They are not as they will appear in ESB:R

Anyway, here's a couple fo photos of the things i ahve been working on recently for the Hoth Troopers 2nd unit shoot

1: backpack frames. Unassembled

2: Trooper costume accessories (the rank insignia, glove decal and hat communicator). These are just the clay versions ready for the silicon moulding stage

They look great! My only complaint is how the some of the straight lines came out sort of crooked. But that's better than I could produce anyways!

The trailer was OK.  Not enough quick cuts for a finale, and some frames from shots after the shot you used were not cut out.

I completely agree. I'll be releasing another Trailer I think, but in terms of quick cuts, I was using a computer that wouldn't allow smooth video previews. I now have a far more powerful desktop so if I do another trailer it'll be a lot easier to have quick cuts and to time them properly. Also, just keep in mind that fishing through 7.5 hours of footage for a 2 minute video isn't as easy as it looks, haha.

Well, I'll just have to hear it in the film. Regardless, if it's seamless, that's great in itself.

A-man, how is work coming?

It's coming alright, I've run into another speedbump I've hit before. AVI's wont import into the timeline. I've had this problem before and fixed it then, but I've forgotten. I'll figure it out soon! I'm almost certain it just has to do with codec settings. And I'll have a full week to work on the edit after this week.

I haven't really followed this project, but that trailer looks great A-Man! It makes both stories seem even more epic. Think I'd have to visit this thread more often.

About your pneumo, I know what a b**** those can be, I've had three of them, even though I'm a non smoker, like you (but I am quite tall and skinny :P).

Nice to see another interested individual! It makes completing this thing worth while knowing how many people around the world want to see it. It really is a dream come true now that fan-editors can edit films in their own homes and share them with people around the world! Thank God for great computers and the Internet!!!

so, just to refersh my memory, when will the dvd be avail.

2nd, how would we telling the story? same as org and just interjecting scenes when they are spoke of kinda like?

The DVD will be done when its done. I'm working as fast as I can. I know I would like to get it done by August. We'll see what happens though. And I don't really understand your second point... :S

Just a quick message to anyone out there who has ever had an idea for a fan-edit: Get in there and try it! I've been learning so much and getting better as I've been moving along. After the first render I spent some time analyzing the movie to that point and then I went back, realizing I could do better after all I had learned and came up with something I'm happy with. Also remember, people might give you too much or too little credit, just remember to do this for yourself. Ask for other opinions and take the ones you like. I've had a lot of fun doing this and I'm sure many of you will too!

Thank you both! Anyone know where Ripplin is by the way?

Also, I got my new tower in last night. Still haven't put Architect on it, I'm going dancing tonight so that'll probably be tomorrow. The computer cost so much freaking money it was ridiculous. I still have a laptop I have to buy too.

If you guys remember I had mentioned that I would be buying a MacBook Pro for my program but the truth is that I need a good Windows PC too so I bought one 10x better than the last one! Editing should be a breeze now!

All of the ANH scenes are from ady's edit. I was going to use the original duel but later decided against it and went with ady's edit.

In terms of music, I'm not going to disclose what I used (I don't want people to listen to the music because I don't want it to be familiar) but some of the music is even two-five different pieces that I mixed for something new. I'll be releasing a soundtrack sometime after the DVDs are shipped and before I start on the second part.

And thanks for your concern rcb. I'm taking it easy for now, limiting my driving, my attendance of class and work and I'm taking a break from Renascent until I can no longer feel the pain in my chest. The odd thing is that I don't even smoke and I'm not tall and really skinny either so they've labeled it a "spontaneous pneumothorax"

Sorry it took me a few days. On Friday I was informed of the passing of my uncle so I left for the capital with my family for his memorial. Right before we left for the memorial (in Ottawa for over 24hrs already) I went into a respiratory attack and we called 911. I was rushed to the Hospital and they forbid me to travel so that they could run multiple x-rays. This morning they allowed me to come home, but I have to go see a specialist tomorrow morning.

Will you start working the Bespin shot like you said?

:D

Haha, not yet. I'm gonna finish SW DVD Menus first and wait for the Revisited of ESB before I get to work on that shot.

The trailer was amazing. Your first trailer wasn't as convincing, but this trailer makes me eager to see this very soon.

Thanks, glad you liked it!

Yeah, the trailer was pretty good. I'm guessing this has been a very educational time for you, A-man?

Thanks, by educational time, did you mean the whole process of editing? If so then God yes! Haha, I've learned sooooooo much in working on this fanfilm and I'm eager to see everyone's reactions to the finished product!

Please tell me what you think! Personally I am very happy with how it turned out.

This trailer was extremely moving!  Good work!  A few minor critiques:

1)  I would remove, at least, the very first percussion cadence you have in there before Obi-Wan is about to show Luke the lightsaber.  As it is now, you've begun to tease the coming tension when I haven't even had time to settle into the first mindset you're trying to establish.

2) You're closing caption "The story of . . . . . told simultaneously" is an awfully vanilla choice of phrasing consider how much building up your trailer has done before reaching this point.  I would consider coming up with something a bit more compelling for your trailer sign off with.

All things considered, 5 Stars and a "Favorite!"

EDIT: I just caught the brief hesitation you gave Ben before he says "Darth Vader." It really goes a long way to selling the idea that Ben is in fact lying about him being Luke's father.  Bravo, Bravo!

EDIT 2: Where is the music from?  Is it Metal Gear Solid?

Thanks! I don't necessarily agree with the first point, but I do understand where you're coming from. I'll consider that for the next one.

In terms of the second point I agree, that was just the best I could come up with unfortunately haha.

The hesitation thing was just an easter egg in the trailer not featured in the final film. I also inserted "Vader" before "helped the empire hunt down and destroy the jedi knights" to make it sound more personal and intense.

The music is from E.S. Posthumous.

That's freaking amazing! I think I might use that for my ESB: Renascent edit if ady doesn't.

Static or moving?

-Angel

Movement. I'd have to remove the Falcon and repatch the background, then I'd have to use 3DS Max to import a new Falcon, and then using particle illusions add in extra moving clouds that the Falcon could blast through and then add the engine glow.
