A-man , wouldn't it be better to hold off sending discs out until i can see if i can fix the skipping issue? What method did you use to remove the 2:3 pulldown on the AOTC DVD?

I've notified the people that have made requests of the issue and how we (mostly You haha) are working on getting it fixed, but some want it anyways. And I just ripped the film with DVD Fab, and then converted it using AutoGK; I went through the process for ROTS, TPM and SW:R and didn't get that problem.

I still don't quite understand what has happened here from a tech standpoint, and I guess I'll never understand why A-man didn't hold on to the original project files, but I suppose that is a dead horse now that doesn't need beating.  I'm encouraged that adywan is showing interest, and I'm hoping a fixed version will be available at some point.

As I said, I'm trying to hold my tongue until things shake out.  I'm wishing the best for A-man and this edit.

To paint you the picture here's the full explanation...

When I first started, my computer had a 30GB harddrive and a 2Ghz single core processor with 512Gb of RAM. The computer was already old and was progressively getting slower and slower.

When I began editing, I had my files split between the My Music, My Pictures and My Videos folders with a specific folder for Star Wars Renascent that had the rips and the renders. I soon found I was running out of space, so I bought a 250 GB harddrive, which I then used to transfer my files over - some of the files couldn't be copied over properly due to a redirection issue so I had to keep some in their original file paths.

My computer's speed was so slow, that every little bit of video would lag on my screen regardless so I couldn't tell anyways, so I had to toss it and get a new one (which is why I was in such a hurry to toss it). As soon as I had the money, I did so and all the file mapping got screwed up. I DO have the original project file on the harddrive, but it won't load the project properly.

I mean I redirected everything but that AVI issue was never resolved on this new computer so now none of the rips work. The only thing I could work with would be the MPEG video track which would be the same as the DVD video track that Ady will be using. The difference being that I don't know how to resolve the issue but ady might be able to.

Ady, before you try that method, I'm going to try and convert the AOTC to an MPEG, and try and replace the AOTC scenes and then use the MPEG render for everything. I could also try and fit some AOTC colour correcting in there if this works.

I'll be mailing the discs to Adywan in a couple of hours.

Hold off on that, I may have a solution.

EDIT: What the crap!? After recovering the project file on this comp, it looks like AOTC is in 25fps, but then the file on my computer says 23.976fps. Now I'm really confused...

Alright two solutions here: I rip it again, convert it to a WMV and replace the scenes with AOTC and use the MPEG render for the rest OR option two would be to see what ady can do.

My old computer was too crappy to even display the difference as EVERYTHING was displayed choppy. I'm actually surprised I got this edit done with that piece of junk. I also had it on the external which was funny enough became corrupt after I transferred my movies, programs, papers and music to my new computer.

My opinion is go for it. I didn't start this edit for acceptance of the Fan-Edit community, I did it as a hobby and so I could watch it above all. In appreciation to the fan-edit community for all its input, I'm distributing it to those that I can, which is why I asked Ripplin to get it on FE.org.

Ripplin has seen the issue and commented on it, so if he goes ahead and gets it on FE.org or if he sets up a torrent, I would expect not a single person to blame Ripplin if they find the lag irritating. I've already sat down and watched it with a group of twenty friends who are all fans of Star Wars who all loved it. Some noticed the glitch, others didn't but overall, it didn't change the viewing experience by very much (almost none at all).

You've been warned though, so if you still decide to put the time into downloading it and it irritates you, it's not my fault or Ripplin's or FE.org's.

I have a very bad feeling about this...

Yeah...starting to agree. :-(

You know no one is forcing you to watch it right? I gave this edit my all, and it was my first edit. I spent almost two years on it and there was one technical issue I couldn't overcome. I've re-rendered countless times, bought bigger harddrives, bought a better screen, and bought surround sound to ensure the best results I could. If you DO watch it, just keep in mind that I did everything in my power to make this as enjoyable as I could.

I set out to make myself a Reborn-style edit so that I could watch and enjoy myself. I appreciate everyone's help and input and could never thank them enough, but full out coming out to someone (who has spent almost two years on an edit done on his spare time and who just wanted to give back his finished product in response to all the help and support) and saying you think it'll probably be bad is pretty rude and hurtful.

I don't mean to rant, but that hurt. I did everything I could to make this as enjoyable as possible.

EDIT: This wasn't directed at just you, it was directed at anyone who has/is/will bash me because of this one technical error which I cannot fix.

EDIT 2: I was right the first time, its in the initial file too. This problem can't be fixed and the inconveniences caused to the viewers pales in comparison to the inconveniences of having to buy an American copy (has something to do with the Canadian encoding of AOTC DVD), re-rip it, convert it and re-create the project file (don't have the original project file or computer).

The problem isn't too noticeable, and your eyes will naturally adjust to the video after about a minute of AOTC footage.

rpvee, I finished the second draft of my edit, I'm PMing links to the people that I asked to help me review it.  Thats all.

Asteroid-man. Not sure what you mean when you say you're " looking for a good ROTS edit for ESB:Ren". Do you mean a good edit to watch along with yours".

Anyways, PM me your email when you can  Asteroid and I'll send the links. But I do ask that you provide some feedback. Likes, dislikes and such.

ESB:Ren is The Empire Strikes Back: Renascent ;)
