Normally I split up my avisynth script into 2 parts. Part 1 contains all the filtering. Part 2 only the addborders and subtile part. I use part 1 to create an avi file and part 2 to feed the avi file to CCE.

This is a sensible approach; I do the same with scripts that involve heavy CPU use. sensible. Lagarith is a good codec for this stage because, unlike huffyuv, it can losslessly compress YV12 video.
Otherwise for a 10-pass encode the PC has to also filter the raw .m2v files 10 times. This way only once.

A 10-pass encode is totally over the top. The law of diminishing returns kicks in after 2 or 3 passes, and most people agree there is no benefit in using more than 4 or 5. (I seem to remember having this discussion with you before, and you insisted you could see a difference. *cough*)

The uncompressed avi is about 70 gb. It takes my PC about 6 hours to produce. A 10-pass encode takes my PC about 6 hours also. I don't know if there's a visible difference between 3 or 10-pass but usually I encode at night so if it takes 2 hours or 6 doesn't really matter because it's ready in the morning anyway. So I do a 10-pass just to be sure. :)

Hi Arnie!

What software do you use for your encodes, in conjunction with CCE?

VirtualdubMpeg (but just to test the filters), dvddecrypther (only once, to rip the vobs to hdd), vobedit (to demux the vobs and split them at the vob ids to remove the first 13 or so frames of nothingness), dgindex (to create the .d2v files for avisynth), Avisynth (for the filtering), and DVD-lab pro to author the final dvd). Oh, and excel to convert frame numbers (=chapterpoints) to timecode.

Huh? Have you guys been on another planet during the last two days? Dude, Fitna is out. I have 3 copies in various places. It's being seeded on the Pirate Bay and Mininova. It's on YouTube in several different parts, but it's easy to find.

As much as they'd like, they can't put the genie back in the bottle.

If any of you want copies, let me know and I'll provide them.

I (probably we) know it's everywhere. Just wanted to point out the said news about Liveleak.

They got death threats for something so tame?

Yeah, it shows the idiocy.

The reaction to Fitna from revolution.muslimpad.com:

Why doesn't this [ url = ...] work anymore?

Btw, am I the only one who gets "muslima.com" banners when openening this thread? :D

And... it's removed from LiveLeak.

"Following threats to our staff of a very serious nature, and some ill informed reports from certain corners of the British media that could directly lead to the harm of some of our staff, Liveleak.com has been left with no other choice but to remove Fitna from our servers.
This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the net but we have to place the safety and well being of our staff above all else. We would like to thank the thousands of people, from all backgrounds and religions, who gave us their support. They realised LiveLeak.com is a vehicle for many opinions and not just for the support of one.
Perhaps there is still hope that this situation may produce a discussion that could benefit and educate all of us as to how we can accept one anothers culture.
We stood for what we believe in, the ability to be heard, but in the end the price was too high."

Right.

Except this thread isn't about suicide bombers, Jihadists and the like. It was about a few nuts in Kabul burning a flag in response to some Dutch film.

Quick review question: what was the Dutch film about and why did these nuts in one of the worse places on earth feel the necessity to burn a flag because of it?

That's the fun part. No one has seen the film, or knows it's content. We just know it's called Fitna. And it's supposed to by critical of the Quran. And it's about 10-15 minutes long I think.
Nobody dares to broadcast it. Then it was supposed to be put on the internet but the (American) server it was going to be on removed the site. So how and when we can see it is not known.

Also a lot of governments from Islamitic countries urged the Dutch government to ban the movie or else... Dutch diplomats abroad constantly have to give explanations. It's crazy.

Microsoft update
Time
I have recently installed MS Office 2007 and I switched from "Windows update" to "Microsoft update" so both Office and Windows will be updated. When I installed Office I ONLY installed Word, Powerpoint and Excel because that's all I use. For some reason the Microsoft update thought it was necessary to install ALL Office updates. So now my system is flooded with updates for access, infopath, onenote, communicator, publisher and outlook and I don't even have these programs installed. Does anyone know why the updater install updates for programs that are not even on my computer?

No, the thread was begun with the premise that the behavior of this incident is exclusive to Muslims.

Well, that could be an interpretation of the initial post, but it actually doesn't go so far as to say that and I had a different way of understanding it. As I tried to point out in my last post, there is a sense in which the singled-out behavior is "exclusive" to Muslims. It is not exclusive to Muslims in the sense of the event in its most basic form. It is exclusive, however, in the sense of a number of other dimensions. I would argue that these dimensions can lead us to conclude that the general body of Islam (at least in certain parts of the world) has a bigger problem with these sorts of events than other religions and ideologies.

That is exactly what I was trying to say.
