GAME OF THRONES - A TALE OF KINGS AND HONOR (Released)
Time

GAME OF THRONES - A TALE OF KINGS AND HONOR
1st film

This edit, and this series of edits, will create each separate season of Game of Thrones into one movie each - in the style of Lord of the Rings, starting with Season 1.

MAIN THREAD IS OVER AT FANEDIT.ORG. THE FIRST ENTRY IS FINISHED.

[1.1] PROJECT INFO AND EXPLANATION
Game of Thrones - A Tale of Kings and Honor is the first film in a series of Game of Thrones movies, created from the source material of Season 1. The project is ment to have the same structural pace and tone as the Lord of the Rings, while maintaining the story and characters of Game of Thrones, to create a suspenseful, truthful-to-material, one-time adventure in which - instead of watching 10 hours of episodes, you watch one condensed 3-hour long movie with the story fundament of Game of Thrones and the pure adventure and tone of the Lord of the Rings.

Except for the shorter running time, adventurous feel of LOTR and GoT combined, and more condensed storyline, half the idea is also that it will be much easier to watch this with a nay-sayer friend than to ask him to watch 10 hours of episodes with you. Also, much easier to do a Game of Thrones-marathon.

The series’ soundtrack is completely removed and replaced with that of Lord of the Rings, using different themes for the different houses (Rohan for the Starks, Gondor for King’s Landing, Arwen theme (and later when dragons; Elfs/Rivendell theme) for Daenerys), as well as the entirety of the score of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies where suited.

[1.2] PROJECT STATISTICS
RUNTIME: 2 hours and 38 minutes.
FOCUS: Ned Stark/the Starks & Robert Baratheon, the Lannisters, conspiracy plot, supporting characters where relevant, Daenerys and Jon Snow.

As of right now I’ve made out the outline for the first 90 of 180 minutes - or half the movie if you will, created outlines for how each story will pay-off or be continued, and carefully listened through hours of LOTR soundtrack to combine them into different new ones and sorted out the different themes for the different houses.

I’ve focused on characters and conflicts for the first 40 minutes, thereafter focused more on the on-going story and conflicts, which thereafter leads to a massive build-up to a middle-act/middle-climax (90 minute mark) of great conflict to pay-off early story beats from all the different main characters’ stories, and to create some much-needed action for more tension; then going forward towards the last 90 minutes, with one bigger climax to end it all.

[1.3] STORY

 • Ned Stark is the main character, not the Starks. All the Starks get to shine in Winterfell just as they should, but as the story progresses and Ned leaves, so does our focus on his children, Catelyn and Winterfell, only to feature again after the middle-act (100 minute mark) when Tyrion visits after his trip to The Wall, and at the end after Ned’s death, to set-up the second movie.

 • No Tyrion and Catelyn subplot with Tyrion being captured and taken prisoner, and the trip to the Eyrie.

 • No Catelyn visiting Ned and Littlefinger at King’s Landing.

 • Daenery’s storyline starts later, as I don’t want to detract from the Starks. It starts just before Ned and Jon leave Winterfell, after Robert’s speech in the crypts as in the original (which is now much later).

 • Viserys is just the worst brat and big brother ever and villain of Daenerys’ story, and that is all he is. Cut personal scenes.

 • Removed tremendous amount of supporting characters’ subplots to focus on main plots.

 • Removed tremendous amount of character’s dialogues and backstories, and scenes of no story or character importance.

 • Jon Snow storyline at Castle Black is much more condensed, fast-paced and visually appealing.

 • The greatest deal of screentime for Tyrion is the first 60 minutes. In the second act he takes a backseat as he is traveling home, although short appearances here and there when relevant for the story.

 • King’s Landing scenes are extremely condensed and relevant to the plot, and have a very thriller’y feel to it.

 • Ned Stark’s children at King’s Landing, Arya and Sansa, very much take a backseat from the second act and throughout, though it is known Arya takes waterdancing lessons from Syrio Forell.

 • Khal Drogo is no longer of great importance. He is there. He looks badass. He plays his part. But pregnancy/son-subplot, Daenery’s&Khal full-on romance and all the boring and supposedly emotional and personal scenes are removed, with very few exceptions.

 • Khal Drogo dies of his wounds. No braindead Khal Drogo-subplot and “oh nooo, my moon & stars, i love you”.

 • Littlefinger and Varys play their parts as mysterious characters and schemers, although their appearances (mostly) only relevant for Ned or the story.

… and much, much, much more. Any questions, just ask.

[1.4] DIFFERENT IDEAS

 • No Daenery’s for Season 2, coming back for Season 3… Season 2 storyline uninteresting and boring.

 • I’ll create a DVD with menu and all for every movie.

 • I’ll release it in MP4 5.1, and 5.1 DVD.

 • If wished upon, I will create one version of every movie - identical - but without the LOTR music. Shouldn’t be much trouble. This would however be later down the line.

Why are we heavily debating the fan edit future/topic of a guy who’s been gone for four months? Wouldn’t it be better to wait until he is ready to tackle more Star Wars? As of right now Adywan seem pretty exhausted, yet his thread goes through the same ideas over and over again without any feedback from the guy himself.

Maybe wait until threadstarter is ready for some more? Just an idea.

Four months…what are you talking about? Look at his post history.

Nice job summoning him though.

It’s a gift.

To summon him you can also say 5 times “Adywan” in front of a mirror.

LOL.

STAR WARS: Episode I - THE ANCIENT LORE [Episode I Remade /Proj started: 2014] (WIP)
Time

FROM FANEDIT.ORG:

As for The Ancient Lore in and out of itself, all the narrative hard parts are DONE! Things are finally working out, and the main things left to do are rotoscoping, sound effects and color grading (tweaking). This means I’m about 80% finished I guess, and with some math from when I first started this - that means I might have this ready by the end of the summer or autumn.

But that doesn’t calculate all the things that will most likely screw up during rendering - because there ALWAYS is something. Frame overlap, or a color grade that didn’t fit as thought - or a porn video overlapping during the rendering (wait, what?). Who knows!

Does anyone even remotely know what more could be done to help TPM/TAL by this point? Are there any suggestions left? Ideas? I hardly think I will revisit this again, at least not from a narrative standpoint, so it feels like now or never.

Also, I really, really, really want to show some video previews, but then again; I think I’ve showed you guys so much already that if I show more, the surprises might fall short. I think I won’t release anything of great importance anymore up until release, unless - of course - I really feel like I need feedback on something, or something is really, really requested. I don’t know. I like to keep surprises. It makes the viewing experience more entertaining. More fresh.

I will however pick two-three people before a release to preview the full product, to be able to fix things that might have been overlooked or could need some tweaking. Or maybe even simply doesn’t work! >:O But don’t you dare say that, because by that point I won’t give a shit! I will be a firm believer!

Very nice, though I should recommend a different colour Mace’s saber. Seeing as he seems to be a very combat dominant Jedi, perhaps give him blue or yellow. Blue means that he is just combatative, less of a scholar, and yellow meets in the middle

He’ll have blue in EP II.

This edit looks very intriguing, the dark tone isn’t something one would typically expect from a Star Wars movie but it only makes this edit more unique (so many TPM edits now). Though I do think you went a tad overboard with the darkness in some places, for example the conference room scene where Gunray talks about genocide. It does nothing except add darkness, and after a while it started feeling like a Holocaust reenactment. Also Ric Olie says something right before the Dokou scene, I would cut this because it doesn’t add much and was so fast it made me go back to comprehend what everyone was saying.

The dark tone really makes you appreciate how editing can affect the film’s tone. When you compare this to Frink’s The Ridiculous Menace it’s unrecognizable. I’ve seen comparisons like these for other movies, but for something as heavily edited as TPM it’s very nice to see a fresh take.

Cheers, brother. The very dark grade is something that is only on the preview video. It’ll be different in the final product, and so will much of the grading.

I really cherish your positive feedback. Thank you so much! I agree on the Ric Ollie line. It might be a little hard to hear. I’ll try to improve it, or remove it all along.

It won’t let me watch it for some reason

It should. Tested it twice… try it on your phone or in a different browser.

I’ve read that Nicholas Hooper got inspired by Williams’ score but I can’t remember him reusing any of the old themes other than Hedwig’s theme and the quidditch music from PoA. Hooper’s scores are my favourite ones, so I’m glad that you put some of it into the other movies.

Then he probably was more inspired of the actual tone and sound of his score, rather than the musical cues. I really loved Hooper’s score for HBP, but I found the score for OotP very, very boring and unimaginative, with few exceptions being Sirius’ new theme (but why the f*ck would you even make a new theme when you have A Window to the Past!).

Here is a list of a few songs that would work in both of these and Half-Blood Prince

Thank you for those suggestions. Some of them, maybe to your surprise, are already even in use. The original score of SS-CoS has a stamp on both OotP and HBP.

Say, speaking of the cloud effect, that seems to differ a bit in aspect ratio with the film.

Yes, as stated; it was a rough cut. But thanks for the reply! All the finetuning is being done throughout the editing process.

I would love more suggestions for the movie, including Half-Blood Prince.

[OotP UPDATE: Opening]
So this is the rough cut of the opening five minutes of the Order of the Phoenix.

Password: HP

Things to note:

 • Opening color graded, to remove strong, unnatural blue nightsky and settle for a more natural blue nightsky.
 • New SFX.
 • Opening music altered to reveal Sirius and Harry’s Theme from PoA - which the movie is all about, before transitioning into the (now darker) HP theme.
 • Private Drive opening to continue our adventure where our previous one ended - the death of Cedric Diggory, and to set the dark tone for the movie to come. Opening extended 45 seconds.
 • Transition into original opening sky through Private Drive window.
 • Some color grading to the scenery, toned down a little bit of the strong sun colors. Very minor.
 • Added a short, musical score from SS/PS to when Harry pulls his wand at Dudley.
 • Added short, musical cues from Dementor’s Converge soundtrack (from PoA) when storm occurs. I want to keep the scene going with a thriller-y and sound driven atmosphere like in the original, so few cues occur and then disappear for musical continuity reasons with the Dementors.
 • Created Storm Clouds with Dementors from behind, to build up suspense.
 • Color Graded Underground sequence to look even filthier.
 • Extended Underground sequence (6 seconds) to continue building atmosphere and suspense.
 • A lot of musical cues and new SFX.
 • Added back in the Dementor SFX’s from PoA, especially the ones when they are groaning (before attacking) and the one where they are sucking the soul out of people, for continuity reasons.
 • Added Harry’s Patronous theme for continuity reasons, although I created my own, darker version to fit the darker tone of the movie.

Truth be told, the scene at the staircase never really worked for me.

But why? Line delivery? Behaviour? I’m eager to know.

Does anyone else find this scene bad?

Well, the scene played out a little weak to me. I guess a little more could’ve been added to that short moment before Harry leaves. Plus, a rather unnecessary mention of Hogwarts’ restriction of underage wizardry.

I completely understand if you feel you want to leave this scene in. It’s only my suggestion.

Hmm, interesting. I’m not against you, but I’m not sure I’m entirely with you either. I like the scene - I think it creates some extra tension and show some character growth, standing up for himself, and also depicts all the emotions coming with puberty.

I agree with you that it’s short - perhaps a bit redundant, and I can’t help but feel that a lot of stuff was left on the cutting room floor.

Completely understood.

Also, I believe you said you’ll be adding a few deleted scenes to the film. Care to enlighten?

All the ones there are, with the help of JJPotter’s amazing restructure of them.

Maybe for PoA, after Harry looks at the picture, you could cut immediately to him outside, preparing to leave Little Whinging and his encounter with the Knight Bus. 😃

Hmm, interesting thought. Would you care to elaborate why? Is it because he threathens Vernon with a wand before he leaves? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Is it in any way possible to add in some form of explanation for the Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs nicknames to PoA?

I’m guessing the answer is no and that’s just a pipe dream of mine, but a man can dream…

I am very open for suggestions, as I’ve been thinking about this a lot myself. I would really like for a way to get this through to the audience, but how… absolutely not sure. We could have a dream sequence or something, or perhaps when the Dementors suck both Harry and Sirius’s souls near the end Harry shares memories with Sirius in some sort of nightmare sequence where their nicknames are said out loud to the footage of their faces.

ANDREAS presents: Prisoner of Azkaban & Order of the Phoenix [REVISITED] (Released)

Some of you may be familiar with my Revisited Harry Potter franchise, with the completed work being Sorcerer’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Goblet of Fire revisited.

Prisoner of Azkaban and Order of the Phoenix are the next one to go for the same treatment, Prisoner of Azkaban being held off until after work finished on Goblet of Fire due to PoA being less of a struggle, and easier to edit. The movie is pretty perfect as is, and will only get minor changes to fix continuity and some musical alterations.

With that being said, what I want from you guys is to get suggestions for Prisoner of Azkaban and Order of the Phoenix; things you’d like to see done, things you’d like to see removed, and suggestions in general.

Let’s remaster the magic!
