THE TITANIC [Titanic Restructured] (Released)
Time

UPDATE

After great feedback throughout the years and a lot of people taking a strong liking to the increased focus and drama of the sinking, I’ve been working in the shadows on a IMAX / 16:9 version of the edit with new scenes (from the Titanic TV Series of 2012) carefully and sparingly crafted into the narrative (not character arcs, mostly scenes of the sinking and panic and deaths as well as some great exterior shots). The Deleted Scenes have also been color graded to a better effect, and the green tint removed from both the Theatrical print as well as the deleted scenes. The 2012 TV Show source has also been heavily and carefully color graded to fit with James Cameron’s Titanic.

Also re-arranged the opening soundtrack to keep the film score to its original ost, even though I thought the two new soundtracks from the original fanedit were beautiful.

Coming very soon.

Great, great update!

I could’t imagine the Revisited versions to become better, but you have outdone yourself and amazed me with the Ultimate edit! I really enjoyed the first movie so far! The color grading is nicely balanced with all the excess “shining” smoothed. The story is advancing in a good pace also. Bravo!

Already scheduling the second movie for a watch!

Keep it up, Andreas! ❤️

Now that just warms the heart even more on a day that Manchester United took a deserved win. ❤️ Thank you, antani, and have a lovely weekend.

Chamber of Secrets Revisited V2/V3

in 16:9 and with mentioned changes (previous page) is now releasing within a few hours.

Major changes are:

  • 16:9 / IMAX Format

  • Film color graded to look like a mix of PoA and CoS original grade, as to have the grading evolve through the films; SS -> CoS -> PoA (colorful but darker - CoS, more thematically greener and darker to suit the Snake theme - PoA, a little bit more colorful but contains its original grade).

  • Hogwarts Castle carefully crafted to be more gray rather than orange or brown, as to fit with the castle in PoA and onwards.

  • Skies are now blue rather than purple (most movies shot on film before '02/03 have this issue where blue skies turn into purple due to no digital color grading as is the common practice now).

  • Keep the narrative focused on Harry and his story, rather than the occurence of two side-plots (Colin and Ron’s letter).

  • Prolonged reacion shots or close-ups (as are very frequent in Columbus’s slower children movies) are now shortened and/or sometimes removed as to keep the film(s) flowing at an improved pace. Helps the films feel more attuned to an also more grown-up audience.

  • The Whomping Willow sequence completely changed visually, to match with its location in PoA. The sequence is also re-arranged and even expanded on, + continuity errors are fixed (like flipped shots or broken continuity).

  • New Establishing Shots of Hogwarts, to set the mood and make the viewers invest more in the tone of the film as well as get a feel of the Castle and its size.

  • A lot of new sound mixing, to set a new and darker tone to the film.

  • Quidditch re-arranged, missing sound SFXs added (the bludger has two missing SFXs in the movie that always bothered me) and more.

  • The Riddle Flashback / Diary Memory majorly altered with visual trickery, a new and scary soundmix and better pace.

  • The exterior at night Hogwarts windows are now blue/green and dark as in PoA, OotP and HBP, rather than purple and bright.

  • The Harry and Draco duel paced and altered. Prolonged Duel soundmix. It imo feels more impactful and that more is at stake.

  • Harry talking to the snake has a new soundmix and improved pacing. I want it to feel impactful and scary.

  • Harry in the Library Study Group has a new and scarier soundmix, as well as trickery to the visual astetic as the original scenery feels dull and empty imo.

  • The “Hagrid with the trio in his hut at Night” sequence is majorly altered, with new establishing shots (to match with the Hut’s location in the following films) as well as to craft a more atmospheric tone. New soundmix and an improved pace.

  • The Forbidden Forest sequence altered. Some music removed as to allow the audience to feel as if they are in the forest with Harry and Ron.

  • Many instances of a dumbded-down Ron are removed. This also includes all but one instance of Harry yelling at Ron in this film. There are a total of FOUR outbursts from Harry to Ron in CoS. Now there are only one, and more fitting imo.

  • Third Act of the film majorly altered. Removed too much of the re-used Philosopher’s Stone OST and introduced a new and fitting soundtrack instead. Voldemort and CoS’s themes are kept intact. New soundmixes, alterations to pace and more as well.

  • Tom Riddle / voldemort deepfake morph (made by me) as the Diary is being ruined by Harry. I want Voldemort’s (SPOILER!) hidden piece of soul to emerge for continuity and foreshadowing reasons.

  • Ending is paced better, with a quicker emergence of the final scene with Hagrid in the Great Hall (which is also paced better, removing overly long shots and even some re-usage of same shots) as well as redundant reaction shots.

  • and then about a 100 or more changes I’m not going to mention here.

Apart from very few changes to the scoring of CoS - as I want CoS to keep its musical identity as all HP films have one, pace and cuts from the original CoS Revisited are mostly present.

New Whomping Willow Sequence [Original -> followed by HP Revisited]

It’s rendered without center channel for copyright reasons.

90% done. A few more masking tweaks and not settled on the final shot before we transition to Snape. Also need to finetune some more audio.

Tell me what you feel.

Revisited vs. Ultimate editions, In turns of quality would you say Ultimate editions will superceed Revisited? 🤔

Yes. Especially visually.

But I also think they work better in all aimed aspects; tone, pace and VFX&SFX work.

Also, there is now a clearer identity and continuity with each following and previous film.

So, the work on CoS Ultimate Edition is progressing nicely, although the task at hand is monumental.

CHANGES ARE FOR INSTANCE:

-> Most Hogwarts Walls are changed from brown to gray, as in PoA and onwards.
-> The Whomping Willow is no longer in the Hogwarts Courtyard, but in the forests outside of Hogwarts as in PoA and onwards.
-> Tom Riddle Flashback is heavily altered, with new effects and colors to make it seem like a corrupted memory and more in style with what we see in HBP.
-> A ton of new establishing shots, made from ground up. Tons of effects work.
-> A new ending soundtrack (new soundmix).
-> New soundmixes throughout the film (new atmospheres). A lot more sinister atmosphere outside the castle walls (thunder, rain), complimenting the darker look and visual style of the film.
-> Almost all continuity errors are fixed (Whomping Willow, Hagrid’s Hut, Spells different sounds and colors, wall colors, night sky outside windows etc).

And so much more I can hardly remember half. Hoping to release before New Year’s Eve.

Also, all John Williams copy-paste soundtracks from SS/PS are replaced with new John Williams mixes of existing HP score. Like the dark Library Theme from Film I that’s overused. New sound pieces are existing and kept, to let the film have its own identity and musical style.

I noticed that the file is no longer available. I hope that means you took it down pending a new version and not because you gave up on this project. You had some really excellent changes in your work print and a lot of promising bigger ideas.

Oh no, absolutely not. I will make an improved more finale version - when my brain is ready for it. It’s a demanding project, and your second feedback was so good (i think I agreed with 90% of it) that I will use it as a blueprint when I go back through for the Version 2.

But for now, I need a break from Rings of Power.

The only reason I didn’t reply as of yet was simply due to the other projects I’m doing in between and the fact that your reply was so good and so long that I felt it deserved more read-throughs first.

Do you know if you will release any films beyond VII yet or are you still waiting for the ‘Snow’ series to be released?

I’ve not really settled on this yet. The thing is, I’ve added breadcrumbs of Bran being the Night King all throughout Film 8 and 9 (and even Film 7), and a “Snow Show” will possibly ruin all of that - him being the King and all. Also, House of the Dragon is adding increasing continuity to “The Long Night” - which I have a feeling in upcoming seasons will also ruin whatever approach I take here.

So even if I leave Bran as the Night King in my film edits, he definitely won’t be The Night King in “The Snow Show”.

But then again - if the “Snow Show” writers and directors grows a pair and does something to rectify the horrid ending of Game of Thrones, Bran as The Night King (whom now is revealed to have survived) would be a step in the right direction.

“The Snow Show” should be Jon and his Wildlings encountering signs of the White Walkers remerging, and a slow understanding and reveal upon reveal that lead him to understanding that The Night King is in fact his brother, Bran. Perhaps even add a cliffhanger reveal that Bran warged himself into Daenerys in King’s Landing.

KENOBI: A STAR WARS STORY [The Radical "Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi" Cut]
Time

darthrush said:

OT member Phase3 had a wonderful suggestion for altering the final duel in the Kenobi series so that we don’t end on Obi-Wan’s baffling choice to let Vader live. The basic idea is to move the burying obi-wan in rocks to the very end of the duel so that after Kenobi walks away from Vader with a sliced helmet, he screams out “Obi-Wan” then cracks the ground with the force, proceeding to bury Obi-Wan, walk away from the fight the victor. Then Obi-Wan climbs out and the fight is over.

If we can make this work, I think it would make the duel even more amazing than it already is (I quite enjoyed the fight outside of the nonsensical ending where Obi-Wan lets Vader live).

I created a mock-up of this idea. The changes so far:

-Reversing the flow of Kenobi retreating so it links smoothly to the later part of the duel.
-Flip shot of ground breaking for visual continuity.
-Removed Vader’s line “And that is why you will always lose” as he breaks the ground, rough sfx replaced (can be polished later)
-Cropped out vader of wide shot of ground breaking for visual continuity.
-Removed vader’s line “Did you really think you could defeat me?” after he buries him.
-Rearranged shots of Vader walking away for better flow

The one key change remaining to tie this whole idea together is somehow changing the final shots of the rock burying so that Vader’s helmet is still sliced in half. I don’t know who would have the special effects skills to do this but perhaps a community effort would achieve this.

Mock-up of the rearranged duel: https://streamable.com/myzuo3

I’ve totally missed this.

It’s not a bad idea, and if I revisit the edit I might look into taking a similar approach.

So I finally watched all the 6 films and damn… I’m hooked.

This is a lot better than I imagined. The original always felt a bit slower to me but you’ve done wonders to pacing and your editing choices are really amazing, not to mention the flawless rescore.

I’ve found your edits to be great not only for us, rewatchers but also for those who are watching it for the first time.

Looking forward to watch the upcoming VII Film. Keep up the good work.

You are very kind, sir. Thank you for those encouraging and kind words. Always make the effort feel worth it, beyond my own self-interest.

Thank you so much. Film VII is getting very, very close!

MoviesGamesMusic said:

I echo the previous posters comments.

Is there any updates on the remaining films progress yet?

Thanks

Film VII is very close. Finale touches.

Thanks for all of these so far! I wonder if you have any posters/metadata/descriptions available for the movies? So they can be added into Plex nicely.

Unfortunately, I only have cover arts for the first two films (over at Fanedit.org).

I did try to create a Plex Account actually, but it’s not working on my end. Can’t add material.

HARRY POTTER: Revisited [Updates and Info]
Time

INFORMATION:

Sorcerer’s Stone and all up to Deathly Hallows (and yes, Deathly Hallows will finally be finished beyond workprint state) is getting new treatments. There are major reasons as to why, most important is:

  • New Establishing Shots
  • Improved skills
  • Better paced, with a better tone balance between maturity and childlike wonder
  • The Full Screen versions of the films are superior, and now that they are upscaled and beautiful, this will be my go-to source for editing purposes. Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets look so different in many regards due to the color grading, pacing and the aspect ratio. I’ve previously only been able to alter the grading and the pacing (although not completely hit the nail on the head there (in my perfectionistic, retrospective look back). Finally, I can complete the look I’ve always wanted now that I have more tools at my disposal - a look that fits the continuity of the following films, and their more digital and “fuller” look. The Color Grading will also grow organically darker, for each film. Sorcerer’s Stone will look very resemblent of an in-between of PoA and GoF, although with slightly more color.

COPY-PASTE FROM SORCERER’S STONE THREAD:

Released:

So I promised before the 24th, and here it is. On the same day that Sorcerer’s Stone / Philosopher’s Stone released and had its premiere in London, 21 years ago.

This is the Sorcerer’s Stone Revisited edit I’ve always wanted to make. It looks better than ever before. It flows better. It contains the magic and childlike nature one would expect for the first entry, but with more maturity and a firmer grip on its pace and tone. And I just love the aspect ratio - it feels bigger, it looks bigger - and it just feels different.

Gone are also certain nitpicks mentioned in reviews and constructive criticisms all the way back from 2014.

Lumos Maxima!

Oh, and it’s 1080p 5.1 Surround - 8gb file.

New Updates:

  • Sorcerer’s Stone - Ultimate Edition - has been released.

Work has commenced on CoS, which will be my favourite fanedit alongside Game of Thrones when it’s released. I’ve also taken the new, mostly custom establishing shots and sound mixing to a whole new level. I hope it will be a thrilling experience, in it’s full “Imax” 16:9 release glory.

Approcaches to CoS are:

  • Less static camera moves and more movement (to build continuity with the constantly moving and fluid look of PoA) - almost like a subtle buildup to that particular style. It was deliberate to keep Sorcerer’s Stone in it’s more static form.
  • World-building with better establishing shots (which the first and second movies really lacked).
  • Darker atmosphere (but keeping in tone with its childlike and wonderous elements) - bridging CoS and PoA better
  • Vastly improved pace (I think this movie now flows like it’s never done)

… and more of what you’d expect from my edits.
