Episode I: The Ridiculous Menace (FULL MOVIE IS AVAILABLE TO STREAM, SEE FIRST POST)
Time

For example you want to have ric olie do something in your edit but you cant have him because of the lack of footage. so you can take some shots from movies or comics that includes him and place dilaogue or whatever you want without caring about lipsync or it looks good.

Now this is the opening scene but you can get the idea when something is going to happen instead of live action footage you have comic images doing stuff :)

I was wondering if an idea of visual presentation to the missing scenes you want to have are comicbook pages like they did in Tank Girl. IF you havent seen this movie cause of the low budget instead of sets or high production sequences they put comic pages from the tank girl series with some narrating movement (most of them were zooms and spins) and filled the gaps with some background music. :)

You know.. it might work

I was reading the ROTS novel, and one of the reasons why Obi-Wan left is that he saw Palpatine's shuttle approaching.

I read that there are many differences from the movie and the book.

Like Dooku's death and more explanations or alternative shots.

Care someone to tell us what are these changes so it might be possible to make them in a fanedit?

That could be an interesting project gathering all the hidden gems from these books as they say. :)

@Mithrandir:

Your idea about having Obi actually caring about Anakin is top notch. It seems that everyone is careless but all have a suspicious face all the time.

Have actually Bail never saw the jedi massacre but rescuing yoda he learns the story from him. He could be in a diplomatic/mercy mission and they were returning to coruscant. Have him leaving and then arriving again to coruscant is silly. then they go and rescue obi wan and the plan is going along.

Hope you all dig.

Interesting dialogues. Like i said again it hurts me to listen Japanese and have constant subs in the movie. The nemoidians have some screen time and the subs could make the movie feel like its not star wars. Only Greedo and Jabba got subs in OT.

What do you all think? Should I pursue this path?

Interesting path indeed. If you tighten up a bit the editing so the shots are not changing so amazingly fast then there you have it. Other members did some valid points indeed.

The saber looks out of place compare it with the not so vibrant blue saber of ben(obi).

If you want to take this concept try to match the aesthetic of the original painting/poster. Maybe you want to erase darth molto from the BG because he is not even a threat. Just a villain that we see him far later in the movie. I could suggest to add some trade fed ships at least to show that they have a major place in the edit.

Im finding a few more scenes that I'm going to be attempting background replacements on. As to whether they'll work out has yet to be seen. I've been messing around with the Mocha program for motion tracking. I'm loving the results.

Good Zod! I knew it :D

Cant wait to see the results ;)

As far as the "retro-izing" the prequels, I would like to present my point of view, I always say that that disparity shows the effect of the Empire on a previously peaceful, prosperous republic.  During the peaceful good times, technology and materialism could flourish.  People could afford nice things, and technology could advance without being war-related.  With the imposition of the Empire, people galaxy-wide had to do with less, technology stagnated, and society went backwards in many ways.  This can be seen in many societies throughout history on Earth, and even today.  So I want the prequels to look more modern and technologically adanced than the originals.  They have to.

Pretty solid POV. Tho at least the technology should look like a clean version of OT and not something that is out of place. So yes take reference from OT how monitors and wallscreens are and make them brand new :) At least thats my POV

BTW, long time no see the visuals guy, Angel where're you?

Flying around the universe but im here for a while

Just wanted to say I love the freakin' retro-ization of the PT ships Vaderios' has come up with! As well as removing the landing strips, it's more reminiscent of the beautiful scenery I remember from the first film.

Im afraid the scenery doesnt match with TMP and in AOTC the scenery is lame like trees made of plasteline...

I hope we can find more retro ideas along these pages :)

Retroing some stuff...

A couple questions; What to do about the light emanating from the planet that is cast on the actors / cockpit? Leave it as is or does the whole cockpit have to be darkened to accommodate the new shot out the window? And how fast should the stars come at us? Just wondering.

Mithrandir Suggested that the window should have stars instead of the planet, recreating Luke's landing to dagobah. I like the idea and even we can change the corvette's flyby to a more distant one again mirroring ESB's luke approaching bespin. A small ship reaching a bright star.
The last shot of the corvette heading to the senate...well i have some surprises if all work together for that shot

Is it possible to get the cockpit more retro? i really, REALLY, like where your taking this Angel but it (imo) is still too clean. And how about sinking that center screen with the audio signal into the console a couple more inches while having a protective piece of glass on the top? Or maybe a monitor that is more bulbous in shape like old tube style televisions

I like the idea of sinking the screen inside that border. Hopefully the monitor is visible only in two shots so it wouldn't be difficult keeping the continuity. As for the rest of the monitors that are around the actors im really tempted to replace them with blinking old buttons . Since all the shots are still the only hard part will be roto out the plates.

Thank Zod these shots are static and the plates will be easy to be created and replaced with some roto.

Who needs landing strips (the most lame Visual joke in PT)

That's always bothered me. The Jedi seem to have no problem seeing battledroids milling about when they land, but as soon as they see them in the hangar bay suddenly they're concerned? If I had the ability I would remove the droids from the hangar bay entirely. Alas I'm not that talented :p

And if you could remove them what kind of dialogue or shots should take place?
