Star Wars is still at heart a family story (when it works, 2.5 out 6 is still a poor score George), it can't go too far into the darkness like Turn Of The Screw...

Referencing a Britten opera, of a Henry James novel - on a Star Wars board.  Outstanding, sir!

I challenge anyone to find an adventure movie board this intelligent, and I mean that seriously.

Luke & Leia were never intended to be related.  That's been discussed & proven a hundred times over through the years.  Lucas had writer's block and ham-fisted a way out.  He and other people in the productions have mentioned it in interviews plenty of times.

He also shot the "there is another" scene in Empire without even knowing himself who the other would be.  It's typical of his think it up as I go style of film making. That's also been backed up with published interviews.

Someone coming on here and feigning  seriousness when raising the question of the incest having possibly been around pre-Return and that it somehow proves all the Lucas' Original Vision bullshit is just a TFNer coming here to troll the board.

The reality of the film series is here;

Well-researched, backed-up with credible sources, and put together by someone who is extremely knowledgeable on all things Star Wars - particularly the history.

All goofing aside;  that is a very disturbing board to read.  There are people on that forum who have so fully bought into the Lucas "Original Vision" bullshit that they somehow see, and have discussions about, things that simply are not there.

Nor were they ever there because they hadn't been thought of at the time the first three films were written. I saw a discussion of why Vader would torture his own daughter on the Death Star.  Leia-as-daughter was years away from being thought up by Lucas, yet these people are having an in-depth, very serious discussion about it - trying to understand it.  Trying to somehow make it fit in with the lies they've been fed.

It's scarey that people can be drawn in and fooled at that level.  They've completely let go of reality.  Fuck, man - it's the 1984 Ministry Of Truth and it's really happening.  Lucas changes shit on the fly and they buy it 100%.

I'd love to see more stories about the Jedi within 100 years before The Phantom Menace; it could almost have a mission-of-the-week format. Self-contained stories that didn't have to worry about canon.

I agree.  It could be Star Wars without actually being Star Wars.  If done by someone other than Lucas, it could be very interesting.  A familiar feeling universe but without all the baggage and contamination.  That's what I really love about the Daley novels.  They're Star Wars-ish.

^  True.  They are completely unrelated.  Both are services.  You decide what you want and what you don't want.

For the record, I don't have an issue with paying to use forums or see content.  I've done it before, I'll do it again.

You just have to decide if the product is worth the price.  If Jay decided to start charging a yearly fee, I'd pay.  It's worth it to me for the content and the quality of conversations.

If Lucas were honest and offered something that meant something to me emotionally, I would pay.  It's a moot point now, but I would have if things had turned out very differently.

I find the idea that they're closing due to fears of backlash is asinine. We are far in the minority, you understand - even if respected internet/video quality critics agree with us, I can assure you the forum would be filled with gushers praising that it was finally on blu-ray.

I must have visited their forums once or twice before and don't remember being impressed with the layout. Perhaps they're considering an upgrade? Whatever. I've got you people.

I think that's it as well.  It's now common practice for companies to take their fan\marketing interaction into a more publicly connected venue, i.e. Facebook.

A James Bond board I'd been a member of for about seven years recently did the same thing.  No warning, just a sudden downing of the server and a replacement forum with a Facebook feel and Facebook connectivity - log-in through Facebook, click here to "like" this post or "share" this topic.  Years of discussions gone  in an instant.  No apologies, no real explanation.  Just a sort of cavalier "this will be better, you'll like it, it's social".  I didn't recreate my account and instead jumped ship to a different board, as did many others.

Social Media has become the powerhouse for uber-connected, real-time, target audience interaction.  On Facebook Star Wars, people will be free to gush, "like", share, and discuss to their heart's content.  It will be much more visible (better marketing), and it will be cleansed of negative comments daily.

It will be more of the "everything is exactly what the fans want" lie that Lucas still insists on vomiting.  It will be a Lucas\fanbase utopia.  It will be revised history - and best of all - it will be on Facebook, so it must be true.

2+2=5

There is a simple way past this whole problem.  Just ignore all the continuations and look at Star Wars as a stand alone movie..... Star Wars has a complete story from beginning to end and the only loose ends that get taken care of in the later movies are loose ends created by the later movies.....Vader was more or less just a big hit man guy in the first film....the Death Star was really the only trump card the Empire had up it's sleeve to dismantle the Senate.  Remember that the guy said that is was impossible for the Emperor to maintain control without them, to which Tarken responds that it will be the fear of the Death Star that keeps them in line.  So no Death Star, no fear, no Tarken, no control.

With God as my witness, this isn't a sock account of mine.  ;-)

Truthfully Warb, I'm shocked we did as well as we did.  Having followed them through spring and knowing what we're going through (rebuild year, team for sale), I honestly thought it would be a 9 - 0 affair with you guys hammering our bullpen.

The fact that we managed 2 runs off Halladay, 2 more off your pen, and were shutting you guys down through 7 is much more than I expected.  Our bullpen meltdown\ last inning collapse, however, was exactly what I expected.

My post on the local Astros board was that Opening Day was our chance to make a statement that we weren't as pitiful as the experts are predicting.  Turns out the Astros ended up making the very statement everyone thought they would.

Here's hoping Uncle D gets the team sold quickly and we can get back to building it, instead of stripping it of talent and payroll.

We often accuse Warb of being a homer, but at least he doesn't have seven Giants!

What's sad is that I tried to make it a point not to pick heavy from the Giants.  Or so I thought.  ;-)  In my defense, some of those were my late round fall-back picks.

Hey, I did get one Astro. Had three in my queue, but that didn't work out.

Man, glad the season is finally under way.  Three plains and a white, with The Freak on the hill...
