The next Nolan-led Batman film - my thoughts.

Gaffer Tape said: I think his descent into villainy was far more interesting than a Two-Face crime spree would have been.  So it just would have been a let down.  Besides the fact that his objectives had mostly been accomplished at this point.  He was mourning Rachel (oh, and the fact that Harvey actually validated the existence of the character of Rachel Dawes also earned so many points in my book as well) and getting his revenge by giving those responsible a 50/50 chance as well.  What else was there for him to do?  I think if he had taken the next movie solo, he would have overstayed his welcome....

I agree. He works as a one-film character, with the turn being near the end.

He might not have had to sacrifice his screen time, but I still think The Dark Night suffered heavily from too many villian syndrom. I felt the whole Two-Face thing was unecessary, didn't do the character of Two-Face justice in his rushed creation and death, and made the film uncomfortably long. Personally, I would have been happier with more Joker screen time, and a shorter run time and no convoluted ending.

I really like the Riddler ideas of both Anchorhead and Xhonzi.

I'm with C3PX on this one. dark Knight had too much going on and it suffered by being too long and increasingly unfocused toward the end . It seemed to lose it's way about 90 minutes in. One villain at a time, man.

That's funny, because if I remember correctly -  and I do............

Btw Anchorhead, I hate the Halladay deal.    I was hoping they'd get Halladay and still keep Lee.  Giving up a whole bunch of prospects and Lee for Halladay, I just don't get it.

You didn't want Halladay or the prospects last year, but look at you guys now - the juggernaut of the National League (I expect Cincy to drop off).  Man - baseball is a strange game that way.

The Astros - well, we're just the AAA team of the National League.  ;-)

I'm fine with the 10-team minimum,  even if we do have a few guys not actively managing their teams.  At the very least, we need them as talent draws at the start of the season. If not, the rest of us would all be managing the 2009 Yankees.  I wouldn't dig that at all.  This way, we're much more level  All Star-wise, but with a few teams being managed by guys like Joe Torre, and a few teams with managers like Cecil Cooper.  ;-)

thanks Frink(spoken sarcastically),   due probably to your meddling,  I'm not in 8th place anymore.   I'm in last.   thanks.  : (

I wasn't going to say anything, but since you broached the subject;  I'm not exactly digging the fact that I went from second place to fourth the same week Frink started ghost-managing several teams.

Oh well.  It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Very nice!

That idea fits in with my chip on his shoulder angle too.

The next Nolan-led Batman film - my thoughts.
Time

On the off-chance that it's never come up on here before, I'm a life-long Batman nerd. Yesterday I was having a conversation with a friend of mine (also a Batman nerd) about the next Nolan-led Batman film. We were discussing which villain we'd like to see, how they'd work the character, casting, etc, etc.

My favorite has always been the Riddler. I really dug Frank Gorshin's take when I was a kid, thought Astin was fine too, but thought Jim Carrey was an abomination. One viewing of his scene-chewing was one too many.

Which brings me to this post. I would really dig it if they went with the Riddler. I'd love to see Nolan set the standard, yet again. I also think having a somewhat calmer, less brutal, more cerebral character would be a nice change after The Dark Knight. Sort of a moment to catch our breath.

With that in mind, I decided to try and put together the character the way I would hope they'd go with him. So, this is what I came up with;

A character who would be Wayne's equal in terms of money, intelligence, and possibly public influence. Maybe a wealthy businessman with a chip on his shoulder.

The look; Stylish and sophisticated. Green Armani, question mark tie, green Flat Cap.

The actor; Vincent Cassell. I think he would nail it - he can do intelligent sophistication, and he could certainly have a few scenes where he comes unhinged and we see what drives him.

Anyway, that's my take. My friend's take was totally different. He's not a Riddler fan like me and wants another psychopathic killer styled villain.

Will anyone who cares about those Stupid Bayformers films see part 3 w/out Megan FOX?
Time

No, they were not. I'm not saying there hasn't been disposable film in the past. I'm saying it wasn't the predominant business model that it is now.

I do think a little more thought went into the Bond films than the insta-blockbusters of today. Cheese? - often times. Filler until the next action\CGI scene? - not at all. Story was still being considered. That said; Execution & staying power are a matter of opinion. Of course, so are my views on the CGI-fests of today. For every modern film I see as disposable, there is probably an online user community with a forum to discuss it's greatness.

I don't think your example of Saturday Night Fever fits the film industry model of today. Yes - it was capitalizing on the Disco trend of the late 70s - but there was depth & story there that wouldn't be bothered with today.

I have to disagree. There are plenty of great films with substance coming out every year. I don't think Bayformers is representative of modern film as a whole at all...

I think it very much represents the disposable film mentality of the last decade or so. Film as product, as opposed to film as art.

No doubt there are plenty of great films being made, but the eye candy CGI-fests are the mega-earners. Complete with their sequels being planned into the story before shooting. Quick consumption at the theaters and start on the Extended DVD version at the same time (with scenes shot specifically for the DVD "special Edition" marketing push).

Label me a cynic who remembers when it was story first - box office classic second.

Megan will be quickly & easily replaced with a new script-reader who (as someone here so eloquently put it) - looks good sweating.

In the interest of disclosure; I've never seen anything she's done, so I don't know anything about her acting ability.

The chicks will go to see Shia LeDouche, but no Megan Fox won't bring in the guys.

Sad that story isn't part of the equation. Sign of the times, I suppose.

And for the record, Sky, that's not a slam on Bay. It's a slam on the state of cinema these days. CGI, pretty colors, shaky-cam, slow-mo action come first - acting, depth, & story come second - if at all.

The short-attention-span generation won't sit still for actual emotion. The scene stops moving or people start having conversations longer than quotable sound bites - and they have to occupy themselves by texting someone.

Video Games with Nostalgic value
Time

Sorry, no video games when I was a kid.  It was a different world back in the early 70s.  We didn't sit indoors and live virtually.  We were outside playing sports, games, or riding bikes.  If we were stuck inside on rainy days, nothing beat a good game of Electric Football.

Put the tiny felt football under the players arm, turn on the vibrating board and watch the players move in every direction imaginable.

Lucas fucked up THX every bit as much as he did Star Wars. Fortunately, I found out about it before I bought it, so I was able to pass. No way I want those images in my head. I'll go without ever watching it again before I watch that train wreck.

sorry.  I needed him.   What will you give me for Lidge?  ; )

Ummm...perhaps you didn't catch one of my earlier posts on baseball.  I live in Houston.

On a related note -  I think the Pujols homerun should be visible in space as it passes overhead this month.
