So the Home Run Derby (which I can't even watch anymore, seeing as how I can't stand Berman)...

Man, I second that!  I can't stand the guy.  All that back back back back shit and those jackass nicknames he gives everyone.  Berman is all about Berman.

I watched the derby last night - for a while.  I gave up when Berman did his way over the top call for one of the home runs - dude, we get it, it's a home run, that's what they're here to hit - they're being served up meatballs specifically so they can hit them really far, for charity - let up on the espresso.

Anyway, this particular HR went deep into left field and he said something along the lines of "that one is waaaaay out of here, it's going all the way to San Juan Capistrano!!".

Really Chris? - it's going to circumnavigate the planet until it ends up in a city south of the ball park?!!

As far as your curse is concerned.  I don't know how much faith I put in it. Some guys opt out saying it jacks their swing for the real games afterwards, but that seems to be the exception, not the rule.

I think he'll be traded alright, but maybe not to Texas (which was a persistent  rumor).  Honestly, at this point I can't begin to imagine where he'll end up.  I like the guy a lot, but we have a few fellas that could really bring in some prospects and future building blocks.  It would certainly be weird seeing him in something other than an Astros uniform, but for whatever reason, I would be fine with it.  Maybe because I think he should be on a much better team.

It was really just a reference to the fact that I almost never have him on the bench, and for no real reason, I decided to shake things up because I had a few guys doing just as well.  Of course - he promptly hits 2 HRs and drives in 7.

I'm reluctant to make a trade because I'm not hurting yet.  That said, I can't break out of 4th either. I know we're just at the break, but I'll need to be a buyer soon.  Mulling over my options.

Happy Independence/Insurrection Day
Time

My 4th of July tradition is little different.  As has been my tradition for as long as I can remember, I watch Jaws every 4th.  It's sitting on the desk in front of me as I type this, got it out a few days ago in preparation.  Around noon, I'll draw the curtains in the viewing room, settle in with a cold drink, and go back to the theater setting of my youth - and one of my top ten movies.....

"You yell Barracuda - everybody says Huh?... What?
You yell Shark - and we've got a panic on our hands on the 4th of July."

Later this evening I'll raise a glass and toast our independence and all of the people who made it possible.

Happy 4th.

"Mr Mayor.....chief...........ladies and gentlemen"

...1/3 are soundtracks or music based on a film or score.

That's easily my ratio as well. I've been a soundtrack uber-nerd since I was a kid. My very first ever album purchase was the soundtrack to Live And Let Die - and with God as my witness - I'm listening to it at this very moment.

Entirely too many to list, but personal favorites that come to mind quickly;

Alien

Jaws

Patton

Batman Begins

Live And Let Die

Dances With Wolves

The Conversation

Indiana Jones - all

2001 A Space Odyssey

Memoirs Of A Geisha

Vertigo

Apollo 13

Cool Hand Luke

Moon

Casino Royale

Star Wars77

If I had to guess, I'd say that 75% of the time I'm listening to music, it's film scores. A fair portion of the rest of the time, I'm listening to full audio rips of films.

Baseball has marked the time
Time

It was a strange weekend for me baseball-wise.  Astros vs Yankees.  I would never pull for my own team to lose, but I was truly torn over how to feel about Pettitte going against the Astros.

Pettitte has been one of my all-time favorite players for a long, long time. Probably my very favorite ever.  I've followed his career from the beginning and seen him pitch more times than I can count. My fandom of the Yankees goes back a long time as well. The Astros are my team now (again), but in all honesty, I was glad he got the win. He has a fantastic record and our season is a bust, so that made it a little easier to pull for him.

In a game seven type of deal with a pennant on the line - no way.  However, best start to a season ever vs rebuilding & cellar dwellers - yes.

Now - about that buzz saw named Posada - damn - two grand slams in two days, one from each side of the plate.   Along those lines;  People are always going off on "The best team money can buy" - but it's the Yankees farm that brought up Pettitte, Posada, Jeter & Rivera - the foursome that put it on us this weekend.

I'm sorry we didn't take two of three, but I never expected to.  Yankees vs rebuilding - it could have been a whole lot uglier.  Our guys hung in there and were respectable in defeat.

Both of these are prominently displayed in my home. Both are originals, museum-mountings, mint (YS) & very good (LIB) condition. I've had both for over 30 years. Needless to say, I'm a big fan.

One-sheet

Three-sheet

These are just internet grabs, not mine. I'll get pics of them in the context of the rooms they're displayed in. In fact, the Yellow Submarine three-sheet will be out getting a new frame & mounting next week. Should be back in about two weeks.

I dunno, Obi Wan Kenobi versus Owen Lars? ....

I gotta go Lars on that one. Kenobi got soft sitting around in that stone igloo for years, while Lars was out there working. And if it's Lars from the NPR version, it's no contest. Dude's even less friendly in the radio version. Luke recants a story about Kenobi showing up at their house one time and Lars ran him out of there.

...surely it's a little irrational to harbour such a strong dislike for a film based on one aspect? I'd be interested to know what you guys think of this.

While you may disagree with other people's thoughts regarding something as emotional as art, that doesn't make their reasons irrational.

Since you asked; Below are my thoughts.

Normally, I'd never be for reversing a call\game.  However, this one was too significant in terms of history and everyone involved has acknowledged it was the wrong call.  Plus, it wouldn't affect the outcome of the season.

I thought it was very classy for Galaraga to bring out the line-up card today.  I hope the boneheaded fans who are talking about injuring Joyce and threatening his family are paying close attention to how professionals behave.
