What stories/intellectual properties (other than Star Wars) would you like to retell/rewrite?
Time

Bionicle - In the time before time (aka 2000/2001), LEGO released it own original IP that told. It told a tale of six heroes washing ashore a golden beach, each a biomechanical being wearing masks of power and wielding a specific element (fire, air, water, earth, stone, and ice). Their mission: protect the island’s inhabitants from the evil Makuta and awaken Makuta’s brother, the wise Mata-Nui, from his slumber. A simple story, it grew and spanned over ten years, with each year related to the heroes whose stories were being told. The story ended up being of such titanic portions(quite literally) that Bionicle had a special place for me and a few other (to get more info, I’d suggest to look at the YouTube link below). That being said, MAN did it get convoluted near the end. Not just story but the medium too. Bionicle was told in comics, books, games, and even movies, but all of them didn’t necessarily fit with each other 100%. Not to mention how much terminology was thrown out there by the end of its first run in 2010 it almost got confusing to some people. That being said, if I was ever get to Bionicle, the story would more or less be the same but everything would be more streamlined into a series of novels/movies/tv episodes so it can be more understandable and accessible to old fans and newcomers (something that the short-lived reboot failed to do).

Well wouldn’t you know it, I’ve been brainstorming a Bionicle reboot that basically streamlines the original story. I hope to make the terminology easier to follow, among other things. Planning to actually make it happen as a stop-motion film series. I’ve always wanted to shoot Lego stop-motion on location, so this’ll give me the chance to do that. I’ll need to acquire the sets though, as I was too young to have grown up with the series prior to Glatorian, and thus own little of it from that time. I’m thinking of using a single Toa team for the entire Aqua Magna portion of the story. I’m trying to reduce the character count overall. The series was made to sell action figures, so unsurprisingly there’s an insane amount of characters. Probably not cutting any Glatorian characters, though, since there weren’t that many, and it made sense for that setting to have a lot of them. In fact, maybe I’ll move some popular character axed from earlier sections to there. I’ll also look into incorporating G2 elements if there’s room for them, but my priority is staying true to G1. I want to give it better closure though, taking cues from what we know of the original ending before it was cut short. Not sure what to do with Bota Magna, though. Aqua and Bara Magna each have their own cast, so I figure I should have a new cast there too, but what’s the setting like (besides jungle, obviously)? Are there six heroes like the Toa? Or a vast array of warriors for hire like the Glatorians? I feel it should be neither of those two, but I can’t think what.

Something I would love to see is Leia’s sabre replaced with Luke’s green sabre. I felt Leia’s training was shoehorned into the movie and the reason why she stopped her training made little sense. If Rey faces off against the Emperor with the weapons of Anakin and Luke it ties in better to the saga as a whole.

Thanks for reminding me. It can’t be Leia’s saber in my cut because Leia isn’t a Jedi in my cut.

Art is subjective. You might think some of this is stupid, I happen to think it’s a masterpiece.

The grass is always greener, but “masterpiece” seems a tad strong for a partial screenplay of a film that was never made.

Yeah I don’t get how you can call 5 pages of a first draft script of an unproduced script a “masterpiece.” That’s more than a little silly.

Robert meyer Burnett read out most of the script on his YouTube channel and based on that script I think we would have gotten a film worthy of the Star Wars name.
The world building, the drama, the lore, the classic comedy and the politics, it’s all in there for me.

Personally I’m waiting to get my hands on the script myself.

Maybe there’s a chance it gets adapted into a novel.

Well FWIW, I could see this working within canon as something that happens directly before TRoS, with a few tweaks.

After thinking about it, I think you could keep the gist of the conference scene with questioning what the Sith Eternal might want in return, but removing the knockoff Motti moment by just removing two lines.

“These allies on Exegol. They sound like a cult. Conjurers and soothsayers.

They conjured legions of star destroyers. The Sith fleet will increase our resources…”

The camera cuts between the two lines, and there’s no music, so the transition should be seamless.

You could be a little more polite. 😕
It happens right after Rey grabs Leia’s lightsaber.
You see some spirit elements pass into her, then she glows and turns blue for a couple frames.

I wasn’t trying to be rude. I was just seeking clarification.

LOL, I am already not a fan of the whole “I am all the sith” and “I am all the Jedi” approach Abrams did. But that’s a discussion for a different thread, lol.

Nah, it adds to how over-the-top this movie is. It’s silly in a good way.

Really sorry about changing the subject AGAIN but a while back I heard about an idea floating around on TROS edit ideas thread.
Someone, not sure if it was Hal or someone else, but they suggeted that in order to make it more obvious that Rey becomes the physical embodiment of every single Jedi we could see the Jedi’s spirits become part of her and she could glow or some shit like that.

I tried to experiment with this, by using the distarcting Exogol strobe lights to my advantage, I made Rey have a subtle glow effect for a couple frames after we see some spirit-like elements surround her and pass through her. It comes across as a little cheesy but it’s an iteresting experiment nonetheless.

I literally can’t tell the difference.

As for rescoring the fight, I swear Finn’s part in that scene is cringier every time. He deserves so much better. Cut him from that scene entirely. He should not be aboard the Death Star. What is he hoping to accomplish? Rey’s beaten Kylo before. She can handle herself.

Here’s my shitty proof of concept for extending Mustafar:

Clearly you can see here that nothing really works with this clip as the video quality of the added shots is very poor as well as the added music.

There are some good aereial shots here, as well as a dramatic take of lava exploding around trees at this point:

https://youtu.be/s1yV1kTrVGA?t=117

Maybe the trees shot, when slowed down, could be used instead of the ring of fire to introduce the forest?

Those are at night, though. It wouldn’t work.

I don’t know about this specific clip but maybe something with lava in a forest setting could blend well with the existing footage? https://youtu.be/eLE3kaLUfUk

Unfortunately that shot has several watermarks that make it unusable.

As for Evazan’s work, I think it looks great, but I’d replace that one shot of the lava flowing in a circle. It’s just strange and unnatural looking. Like it’s trying to form an arena for an unwitting protagonist.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place

I have ADHD and have always struggled with reading long texts. Recently I’ve started reading some shorter ones (The Nutcracker, Duel of the Fates) and it’s gone relatively well. That said, anything beyond the hundred something pages those are and you’ll lose me for sure. In fact I still need to finish DotF, but I’m a little burned out on SW so it’s hard. Definitely gonna take a break from the series after that.

I like it. It sounds very promising.

Personally, when I don’t yet have a title, I give a project a codename for convenience. Chrono Club was Project Legacy, Kirano (which I have yet to talk about) was Project Turtle, that untitled first part from my trilogy is Project Lorax, etcetera. What I’m saying is maybe consider giving a codename for the time being so we have something to refer to it as. Maybe Project Starthrones as a nod to that R.R. Martin inspiration? It’s not really important what you call it since it’s temporary. Have you thought about the actual title?
