Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread

I believe removing Palpatine entirely from the film would be either impossible, or the amount of excision needed would leave the film unsatisfying.

He doesn’t have that many scenes, and you could have Kylo do all the legwork since he pretty much already does.

Regardless, I prefer having Palpatine. In fact, I’m extremely thankful he’s there. The story just wouldn’t have felt like a meaningful part of the Saga without him.

As for editing the Originals, I have no restraint. Nothing is sacred here. I hold all the films to equal scrutiny. What I value is a cohesive nine film saga.

AOTC and ROTS still have unreleased deleted scenes (scripted and filmed, and included in the comic and novelisation) 15 years later.

Please tell me all about them. I find it incredible that to this day I’m still finding new deleted scenes for RotS. I guess that makes sense given the first cut was apparently four hours. God, I can just imagine how awful that middle section must be to sit through at that length.

Info: When will we see a fan edit of episode 4 that includes the SC 38 reimagined fight scene from FXitinPost?
Time

To me, the issue with SC38 Re is not with the choreography, but rather the cinematography. The constant shaky cam and lens flares are what take me out of it. If those two issues could be fixed, I’d be all for integrating the scene. Just look at how good this shot of the doors opening would be for an edit. Better combat, but no jarringly anachronistic cinematography.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Redux Ideas thread

Posting this in case someone can see a feasible and worthwhile idea here. The ideas at play are pretty good, but most are not doable. Still, it has me thinking about the possibility of integrating the stormtrooper rebellion into Finn and Rose’s escape from execution. Also the potential for having Phasma in the film. Maybe we could just have a few shots of stormtroopers with brightly colored handprints on their helmets, fighting alongside the Resistance in the final battle.

I do like the idea of Kylo Ren being kicked out of the First Order. I had always hoped he’d go rogue, and this would be a great way to do it. After being forcefully removed from office and barely escaping with his life, he runs off with the Knights of Ren to catch Rey in hopes of ggetting her to help him kill Palpatine, the true mastermind behind the First Order. He’s still with the Dark Side, though, just not the First Order. General Pryde becomes the new Supreme Leader.

I don’t know how true this is, but one of the actors who played one of the Knights of Ren said they saw an ending where Rey dies and Ben takes on the Skywalker name. Could be false, but if true, there may be a very unlikely chance this ending makes the deleted scenes release.

It was confirmed false. That guy didn’t even play a Knight of Ren, he was making it up.

Why would Knights of Ren have even been there, anyway?

Alright so who’s gonna make a Joh Yowza puppet?

I’d argue that it’s just an awful puppet and further proof of why the whole musical number scene should just use the Lapti Nek instrumental and lose like 30-40 seconds off of its running time.

Well FWIW, Lucas saw the musical number as one big joke, so if we could make it less tedious and more of a blatant “fuck you” to the audience, maybe it could work.

This also means that changes to the titles and the crawls should respect the original movies, rather than be radically changed.

Personally, I’m against changing titles as it makes it obvious it’s not the official film. It sorta goes with that rule about seeming like an actual movie. People shouldn’t notice it’s a fanedit, so when people hear that Episode VIII is called The Last Jedi, you’ve just gotta roll with it. It’s why I’m trying to think of the most seamless ways of implementing my big changes, which are eliminating pointless familial relations and excess superweapons.

For example, you can’t just remove Death Star II because it’s a key part of the lore referenced all the time in the EU. However, what you can do is clarify that’s it’s a reconstructed version of the same Death Star rather than an all new one. The first one still has to be destroyed, but you can redefine “destroyed” as shattered to pieces rather than literally blown to smithereens. Think of it as a two-phase boss fight. First you destroy the outer shell, then you come back to finish the job by blowing it from the inside.

The Maul scene was confusing even to those who had seen the shows. It’s just such a bizarre inclusion that doesn’t really have anywhere to go.

And how would this change be accomplished, practically speaking?

Like I said, just have Sidious call him Darth Something at some point and that’s it. It’s not complicated, really. The line could replace “I made Snoke”. Something like “Darth Rifficus served his purpose.” Just need a good impressionist or some lines we can take from elsewhere. There’s no shortage of Palpatine saying the word Darth. Hell, you could even just have him say “I made Darth Snoke”.

Complete Saga Radical Redux Ideas Thread

I’ve recently come to realize I have two contradictory ideas for how RoS should end. One is with the Victory Celebration music and montage from RotJ, and the other is a fade to black from the Tatooine scene with more subtle music. I could put the montage before Tatooine, sure, but that wouldn’t really work with the end of Victory Celebration, which transitions very suddenly into the end credits music. Then I had an idea: rhyming endings.

TPM and ANH both end on a glorious celebration. What if TFA did the same, with Victory Celebration playing as Rey walks through a crowd of cheering Resistance members towards the Falcon. Granted, this would probably require an unfeasible amount of additional footage, but it’s worth putting out there.

On a similar note, RotJ would end with Vader’s funeral pyre on Tatooine, mirroring the ends of RotS and RoS. And of course, since the footage of the celebration is used for RoS and the music for TFA, we would reinstate Yub Nub in their place.
