So Thrawn is basically Pryde?
So Thrawn is basically Pryde?
I was working on an edit of TLJ that was actually just the Poe/Finn subplots until Rey shows up at Crait with Luke. I’m probably going to revisit it eventually. Just for fun, not because it would make the movie better.
That actually sounds like a lot of fun. Like you say, not a better movie, but fun nonetheless. Reminds me of the Stranger Things film edits. For the second film the guy cut all of Eleven’s story up until she shows up to save the day at the end for time despite it being the best part for time reasons. He knew it was shame to lose, but felt he had to. Anyway, both cases cut the best plotline in exchange for a badass return of a hero, now better trained and ready to kick ass.
I haven’t seen the Fantastic Beasts films. David Yates’ Doctor Who is a bullet I’m glad we dodged (supposedly it really did come close to happening), so I’m not keen on a stand-in. Are the movies any good? I do plan on seeing them eventually.
I like the old one more but for consistency this is great. Excellent work.
Anyway, I was thinking a simple to fix Barty Crouch Jr.'s stupidly convoluted plan would be to make it look like he’s trying to kill Harry in the tasks. For example, the dragon is trained not to breathe fire, but Barty makes it do so anyways. He pays the Merfolk to attack Harry. The portkey trophy is an eleventh hour scenario he came up with when all else failed. All this doubles as a way of making a regularly occurring competition for teenagers seem less irresponsibly deadly.
Chase asked if there was a general Harry Potter editing thread he could post his Dobby VFX to, so now there’s this one. Go nuts.
I hate being devoid of passion. Life was good for a while, now it’s not. Why does this always happen to me?
The movie’s already pretty long, so if you add even more Ach-To stuff, why not just center the whole movie on that, since it looks like it’s the only part anyone cares about, and cut the rest? Not something I’d do for a definitive cut, but it might make an interesting alternate cut.
Is there anything we can do to improve its chance of survival?
So you guys think there’s a chance the show comes back on a different network?
Veela, with honorable mention for Aurora.
We’re gonna miss you Oojason. Your presence was constant and always welcome. I hope we meet again someday.
An alternative solution that might be more interesting would be having Rey take Kylo’s hand when he offers it. She turns to the Dark Side and joins the First Order.
I use to think this was a silly fan idea, but now I see how it would really give the story the momentum it so desperately needed. It’s a radical idea that would require lots of setup and a completely different Episode IX from DotF or RoS, one focused squarely on Finn, Poe, and Rose. Having to redeem Rey as well as Kylo might be a bit much.
Yeah, evil Rey honestly still is a silly fan idea now that I think about it.
The First Order and Resistance teaming up against a larger threat has been an idea in my head for a long time. Tbh, I don’t see any sequel to TLJ that doesn’t go with it. Honestly, the way I see it was either Palpatine or the Vong, and Palpatine ties the Saga together much more.
Back when we only had TFA, while it was clear Kylo was being set up for redemption, and I thought it’d be cool to see him go rogue in the second film and join the heroes in the last, Zuko style. If you any of you are throwing out TLJ it’s an idea worth considering.
At work a few weeks ago I had an idea for a recontextualizing of TFA’s backstory that might be doable in a fanedit?
Like I said on Discord, this is basically what I had in mind but more fleshed out and with Hux as a senator instead of Snoke. I still think it should be Snoke.
Before the war, though, Hux begins to fall for the spell of a Rasputin-like figure, aka Snoke.
Actually, this is pretty interesting. Unfortunately it doesn’t quite work with how their relationship is presented in the film.
Snoke could also be involved somehow else, or Hux could be involved somehow else, although Senator Hux is much more believable to me than Senator Snoke.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree, but they’re both fairly plausible.
In 2020, no one at Lucasarts cares about canon except Dave Filoni and crew.
Tell that to Hidalgo and whoever else writes the guidebooks.
the Centrists (god awful name wtf Lucasfilm)
What about Centralists? Is that better?
Okay, now let’s try rewriting the crawl to accommodate for the new backstory, since that’s likely where most of it is going to fit.
Luke Skywalker has vanished.
In his absence, the REPUBLIC
has become divided between
the militaristic FIRST ORDER
and the liberal RESISTANCE.
War has erupted, with each
side fighting for control of
the Senate.
Resistance leader Leia Organa
is desperate to find Luke in
hopes of ending this conflict.
The First Order seeks him as
well for fear he may destroy
them.
Leia has sent her most daring
pilot on a secret mission
to Jakku, where an old ally
has discovered a clue to
Luke’s whereabouts…
The Lucas Cut? Apparently Disney wants in on a re-edit
This is hilarious.
Anyway, so I have an idea that’s fairly radical. You know how everyone was wondering what kinds of “secrets only the Sith knew” Palpatine used to survive and it’s never explained? Well I’ve got an explanation for you: horcruxes. That’s right, we’re turning this film into Deathly Hallows. Palpatine has stored away parts of his soul in a dagger on Pasaana, a holocron in Vader’s Castle, a holocron in his Death Star throne room, a medallion on Kijimi, and the Skywalker Saber. Only when those have been destroyed can he truly be killed. Not sure if this improves anything, but it’s a thought I had.
The thing about that is his saber is both crossguarded and crackling and feels wrong to have not one but two traits be exclusive to his saber.
Well, yeah, it’s one long movie in two parts.
It wasn’t very consistent before though, it’s much more pale in SW compared to ESB. Probably because of the visual effects change. Then the prequels that feature it are different again.
Yeah… I remember seeing the first previews for TLJ and thinking Rian must’ve like the 1977 effect.
Personally the SW/TLJ is my favorite. I thought it was over saturated in TFA.
TFA is over saturated, the whole movie.
I love high saturation! I think TFA looks great because of it.
DH was 2 movies though? I don’t get what you mean.
My one regret with cutting Ach-To from TFA is that I won’t be able to comedically iris to credits right after the lightsaber toss.
I’ve never seen Fargo. I have seen Argo, and it was pretty good.
Great thread to discuss it. I find it really interesting how ROTS has become more and more popular over the years, and I regularly see people acting like it’s hands-down the best Star Wars film. It’s such a contrast to even a few years ago.
I’ve been saying it’s one of if not the best for as long as I can remember. People used to laugh at me, now they laugh with me.
In pretty much every fan community (except possibly here), Quite a few people consider the movie to be one of their favorites
You can cross out those parentheses.
At least until a couple years ago most people here would tell you ROTS is either dead last or second to last in a “Best To Worst” list
No, it’s always been widely (albeit not universally) considered the best of the Prequels.
I think both TPM and ROTS get bad reps for being connected to the shitstorm that is AOTC.
I agree that AotC is miles worse than the other two.
What makes ROTS worse for me is that it’s “good” mainly for events that would have happened regardless of the movie they were delivered in.
Those events are a big part of what makes it great for me, regardless how well they handle them.
Prequel fans are taking the criticisms that fans of the Originals heaped upon the Prequels and passing those same complaints along to the Sequels.
The criticisms are completely different, though. It’s like the OT got split Dark Crystal style between the PT and ST and each one got half of its strengths and half of its weaknesses.
[Redundant]
TFA was a kid doing a cool jump off a ledge at a birthday party.
TLJ was a kid telling a joke that he heard from an adult that you don’t get until you remember it years later.
TROS was a kid who somehow talked you into trading your rice crispy treat for his rice cake at lunch and threw it into the ceiling fan.
TRoS is actually the best part of your trilogy.
Don’t underestimate how many people loathed the direction that TLJ was going in
I’m sure it’s in the thousands, sure. Thousands can seem like a lot of people if you’re packed into a convention hall, or watching a minor league sporting event. But when you’re dealing with tens of MILLIONS of tickets sold, blu-rays bought, and streams counted, thousands aren’t a whole hell of a lot.
I have the impression the haters are something like a third of people. Just speaking anecdotally from conversations IRL, that seems about right. Maybe only one quarter. I remember my college club banning discussion of the film for its controversy before I even had the chance to bring it up.
IMO, they needed an Episode 10. Frankly I’m unsure how to change TRoS to make it better without changing TFA and TLJ, but I can easily tell you how I’d do a two-movie follow-up to them.
I have no trouble wrapping things up in one film, assuming I’m allowed to stray far from what we got.
Apparently him seeming like too much of a jerk is the main reason they removed the scene in the first place.
I would unironically have been down for Palpatine to bust a move with his lightsaber, preferably including him turning his head 180 like the kid in Exorcist at one point while doing so. Like Rey lands behind him after doing a Jedi somersault and he just turns his head to face her without turning his body. Would’ve been lit.
