They weren’t made by committee, but they were made by someone who doesn’t care much for an auteur’s vision, and just likes dangling keys in front of the audience.

Abrams has never been a man with a vision. TFA plays out like a madlibs prompt for a story more than a story in itself, and TRoS plays out like a really bad attempt to fill in those blanks by someone who very clearly had no intention of ever doing so.

The Acolyte (live action series set in The High Republic era) - a general discussion thread

Let’s get a full-blown evil Sith - no redemptions!

As much as I’d hate a Yoda origin story, I’d be okay with a Palpatine origin story. Obviously this is too early in the timeline for him to be around, but I’ve always liked the idea that he was older than he let on. An age some consider to be unnatural.

But who’m I kidding, it’s obviously be based around new characters with a healthy (or perhaps unhealthy) dose of “remember this?” thrown in.

Remember how the first two seasons of Star Wars Rebels hinted strongly at Ezra falling to the dark side?

No, I really don’t. He seemed to be continuing down the standard Light Side path, complete with a normal amount of temptation.

I agree wholeheartedly. The Ahsoka circlejerk is so tired and Ezra is genuinely the worst Star Wars character. In fact, I’d take it a step further and say that I would’ve enjoyed Rebels more if Jar Jar was the lead instead of Ezra. Then again, maybe he’d be distracting, but at least he has an actual personality.

It hasn’t always been the most popular era. From 1999 until the buyout, I’d argue the PT era was more popular. It’s just for some reason the new regime is obsessed with the OT. Where are all my PT and ST spinoffs? The most we’re getting only now is one High Republic show, still drowned out by the myriad of OT-adjacent material.

And they aren’t gonna write the Sequels out of existence any more than the Prequels.

I disagree. He’s still irritable, manipulative, and overconfident. He just has more to do in The Last Jedi, but he’s very much depicted the same way.

It’s not his personality that’s different so much as the way he’s presented. He goes from dark and mysterious, to just weird old rich guy. Yes, he behaves consistently, but the way the films treat him is very different.

Has anybody thought of replacing Supreme Leader Snoke in TFA with Palpatine? The Snoke we meet in TFA doesn’t really align with the one in TLJ, but it matches Palpatine perfectly. The surprise of his reveal on Exegol could be preserved by obscure his face even more than it already is (which is a lot) and his different voice is accounted for with the “I have been every voice you have ever heard inside your head” line. The only issue is its placement, as at this point Palpatine has not yet been discovered. What reason would they have for talking to him?
