my Star Wars Saga Edits (* unfinished project *)
Time

I’ve moved everything to this thread.

Here’s some in depth analysis of a couple of my ideas.

JEDIT: I’ve moved the following text from the first post to clear it up so it can focus more on the broad points.

I want to make Dooku the unifying villain of the Prequels, like Darth Vader is in the Originals. That means he should be in every film of the trilogy. We’d cast someone new as a younger Dooku and have them chroma keyed into an existing scene.

The obvious choice would be to have him as Jedi on Coruscant. He could talk to Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. The only scene that would really work is the balcony scene, where Obi-Wan tells him that if he wasn’t so radical, he’d be on the council. At that point, Dooku could step in and take Qui-Gon’s side.

A post-credits scene of him ordering the Clone Army would be neat (in my edits, he is Syfo-Dyas (yes that contradicts TCW, but it’s just a single episode, so I can overlook it)), but wouldn’t make much sense, as it would spoil the mystery of the next movie, has no relevance to this movie’s plot, and SW doesn’t do post-credits scenes anyway.

An alternative would be having him already left the Jedi and replacing Sidious with him. I’d rather not due this for the simple reason that I don’t want to contradict TCW, which makes it clear that Maul was Sidious’s apprentice, not Tyrannus’s. I guess he could be neither a Sith nor a Jedi at that point, working as a middle man between Sidious and Maul, but it would be odd for a Sith master not to speak to his apprentice directly like that.

The main problem with TPM IMO (aside from feeling redundant) is that the main character is Qui-Gon instead of Obi-Wan. It’s especially true on Tatooine. How can we remedy this? It’s not within our abilities to just add him to the Tatooine part, so we should try to give him something else to do. Unfortunately, all we have to work with is shots of him on the ship.

I was thinking maybe we could have him encounter one of Maul’s probes while hanging out on the ship. Instead of Maul finding Qui-Gon, he finds the ship. It gives them a reason to run without having to re-add that scene of Qui-Gon killing the drone. The problem would be making a scene of Obi-Wan taking out the drone. I doubt it’d be feasible. At most, we could have him spot the drone on the ship’s sensors and alert the crew. I suppose they could shoot the drone with ship, but at that point, we might as well just let the drone get away, as it wouldn’t be Obi-Wan personally dealing with it.

my Star Wars Saga Edits (* unfinished project *)
Time

I’m working on fanedits for all the episodic films. Here’s a link to my idea list. Keep in mind that many of these are just ideas to consider, and I may not use them. In fact, some contradict each other. Those that are crossed out have already been fully implemented in my edits.

Main Goals:

  • Make edits close enough to the canon cuts to replace them. In other words, you should be able to watch these edits instead of the originals without getting lost when you discuss them with fans because they did something too different. This is why I will not be changing any of the titles. You should be able to watch the animated series afterwards without any contradictions. However, there are a few canon-altering that I will be making that I deem necessary sacrifices.

  • Cut out dumb plot points, canon be damned. I’m mainly talking about Leia being a Skywalker, Death Star II, and Death Star III, but there are numerous minor offenders as well.

  • Make the films more tonally consistent. I will be cutting out a lot of the out-of-place and/or over-the-top humor in the ST (though I think I’ll include those gags in post-credits). I’ll try to lighten the mood in the Prequels AotC (TPM is already pretty light, and the start of RotS is too, while the rest of it kinda has to be heavy). I will try to minimize all the talk scenes in the Prequels.

  • Make the films more stylistically consistent when necessary. I’m sorry JJ, but you just can’t end a SW saga film with a moving shot. It’s not even a good moving shot. Also, where’d the main theme go in the Prequels?

  • Make the color connotations more consistent. Good and the Light Side should be blue, while evil and the Dark Side should be red. Green is balance. For example, the blue things in the Emperor’s throne room will become red, and the Alderaan security troopers seen aboard the Tantive IV will fire blue blaster bolts. Not sure what I’m going to do with Mace’s purple lightsaber.

  • Refine each trilogy’s sense of narrative and visual identity. What I mean is that it should be easy to tell which trilogy a film is in by things like ships, villains, and whatnot without it feeling too different in each film of a trilogy. The PT lacks consistency, while the ST apes on the OT. I will be adding Dooku and the Seperatists to TPM to give the PT a unifying villain and opposing faction. I will attempt to minimize OT imagery in the ST. New planets will look more distinct from old ones. I will also try my best to rework the plot of TFA so as to be less derivative of ANH’s.

  • Adjust the ST so as to not undo all the accomplishments of the OT heroes. Han and Chewie will be generals of the Resistance searching for Poe, not just smugglers. The Republic won’t be destroyed by some miraculously built superweapon; it will be divided in a proxy war between senators funding the First Order and senators funding the Resistance. Not sure what I’m gonna do about Luke’s new Jedi Order.

I mean…you could’ve made a new thread instead of bumping a 5-year-old one for a dead project, but okay. This was one of those things I started but was never able to finish that I kinda hoped everyone had just forgotten about.

You’re probably right. It’s just that I wanted to show my aproval of Bingo Wings’s idea. Oh well. Would you like me to start a new thread? I guess there wouldn’t be much point now.

Are you still taking requests?, because I’m trying to integrate camouflaged stormtroopers in the Battle of Endor, as I feel they would know better than to dress in white for a fight in a forest.

This camouflaged stormtroopers idea made me think, and I realized:
Prepare for what fight?
I would assume they never imagined in their worst nightmare that they have to actually fight those creatures. It’s like no SAS or any elite force on earth would bother to use camouflage while “fighting” monkeys in the jungle, using flamethrowers and machine guns. It would be more like exterminating, not figthing.

One would think one small rebel group is no match for all of them with some AT-AT and AT-ST and speederbikes on their side.
And they were hidden as long they wanted to be hidden. Rebels never saw them. Everything went as expected, Rebels were easily captured.
No fighting.

But it was a trap. They knew Rebels were coming. Granted, they were supposed to let them deactivate the sheild, but that doesn’t mean they needed the Rebels alive. Just let them take the bunker, and on their way out, kill them.

Anyone else totally disregard Leia being Luke's sister?
Time

I would disregard Leia as Luke’s sister – not because of twincest*, but because it’s universe-shrinking bullshit. Alas, too much of the post-ROTJ EU I accept as canon predicably runs with the revelation, so, as it is with the Death Star II, I accept it but only with much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

My thoughts exactly. Luckily, there’s not much acknowledgement of these in the stuff I follow, so I can generally disregard it.
