Help: looking for... Any edits of Harry Potter 5-7?
Time

I like the first four Harry Potter movies, but find the second half of the series really dull. I’m pretty sure David Yates is to blame. The films lack the whimsiness and fun of the first few films. I get that it’s supposed to gradually get darker as the films go on, but this is too “YA” to my liking. Splitting 7 was a terrible idea. They should’ve recast Crabbe instead of replacing him (it’s just one scene, so we don’t have to see him too clearly).

Now there are also a few problems with the series in general. Why is Dobby abscent in films 4-6, despite being there in the books? How am I supposed to care when he dies? Film Hermione suffers from the Legolas effect, with Ron as Gimli. No one important except Cedric Diggory comes from Hufflepuff while Slytherin seems one-dimensionally evil. And so many plotholes from poor worldbuilding (timeturner, liquid luck, putting students in deadly competitions, etc.). Back to my bit about the films getting darker, did they have to get darker so early on? The moment Chris Columbus wasn’t involved, it felt much less lighthearted. Couldn’t the dark tone have waited until Voldemort’s return?

In case you’re wondering I haven’t read the books. Any edits to recommend?

Doctor Who: The Enemy Within - The TV Movie Recut [PROJECT DEAD]
Time

I like Bingowings’ idea of retooling the footage to tell a different story, though I’m not sure it should necessarily be about the buildup to the Time War. Personally, I think it would be really cool if we could get two stories out of it, just so the Eighth Doctor can have more than one full-length TV outing. We’ve got around three and a half classic episodes’ worth of footage, so I’d say we aim for three episodes. We could also try reworking another Paul McGann movie (Downtime, maybe?) into a Doctor Who story.

Exterminating the Master in the Dalek Parliament from Asylum of the Daleks is a great idea, although we’d have to make sure there’s no trace of the Paradigm Daleks, as they wouldn’t exist yet. We should definitely give Ainley a cameo in that scene.

With speculation that Hayden Christiansen may return in The Last Jedi to reprise Force Ghost Anakin, will he remain at the end of ROTJR?! I know Adywan intends on reinserting Sebastian Shaw and all, but at the end of the day, he’s still not regarding the Sequel Trilogy is he? Maybe recreate a more decent looking Force Ghost version of Hayden compared to what we got recently possibly…

Keep Shaw in the OT and edit him into the ST if needed and possible or just cut out Hayden if that’s the case. The less Hayden in SW the better! I kid you not, I hated his performance far more than Jake Loyd’s as Anakin. And there was nothing wrong with leaving Shaw in in the first place since Anakin / Darth Vader is old when he dies anyway! Freaking GL meddling with things that ain’t broke!

By that logic, Anakin’s ghost should be a hairless quadruple amputee like in the HISHE.

I think the idea is interesting, but in execution I don’t see how you could integrate any of the video game footage into any of the films without the switch being incredibly jarring.

What makes you say that?

The difference between film quality CGI/models and video game CGI is still rather large. Say nothing of the live action people and environments to CGI.

The movies already have plenty of CGI (the more recent, the more CGI), and it looks fine. As long as you’re not using CGI humans, but even then, Leia looked perfect in RO.

I have used captured footage of Star Destroyers overhead in my TFA fan-edit (replacing the Starkiller blowing up planets than Finn and Han are looking up at). Works well for a lot of subtle ship/space/landscape stuff - the faces on a lot of the human characters are a bit off though imo.

But they’d be Imperial Star Destroyers instead of First Order ones. Is it too far away to tell?

Due to its photorealistic graphics, I think it’s a valid source for new OT footage. Just make sure not to show any human faces, or anything furry (Chewbacca) to stay away from the Uncanny Valley. That scene of Vader entering Echo Base through the main doors would be a neat addition to TESB, and some footage from Endor would help draw some attention away from the Ewoks and onto the Rebels. Any battle footage could also help show that the Rebels aren’t all humans. Vader landing on Mustafar could be put alongside footage of his tower, if one can see a reason for it. I think there’s loads of potential.

Idea: If every Movie had a post credit scene
Time

TPM: Dooku discussing a clone army with Kaminoans (would make sense if Dooku were in the movie).
AOTC: The scene between Dooku and Sidious.
ROTS: A ~8 year old Luke sees Obi-Wan and asks Owen who he is. The two walk offscreen as Owen describes him as a crazy old hobo.
ANH: Yoda looking up at the sky, like HAL suggested, minus mumbling.
TESB: A shot of the interior of Jabba’s Palace at night, slowly panning towards a carbon-frozen Han Solo.
ROTJ: A hand covered in a black glove reaches into the funeral pyre and grabs Vader’s helmet.
TFA: Luke’s island, as suggested by Marduk and, in a way, DigiMod.

Rogue One - Rescored (* unfinished project *)
Time

A lot of the music in the movie felt like fan film music. What do I mean by that? It’s music that’s different enough to avoid copyright infringement, but similar enough that you what it’s supposed to be. Like that Imperial theme that’s not quite the Imperial March, but sounds an awful lot like it. The thing is, they have the rights to the songs, so there’s no need to do that.

Idea: Replacing the opening crawls with CW-style newsreels
Time

So I remember in a debate over whether or not the spin-offs should have crawls, someone mentioned that even with the additional need for context, an opening crawl is and always was a lousy exposition device. Of course it was originally meant as an homage, but I think we have to look past that and ask ourselves if crawls are really good moviemaking. That said, I don’t want to sacrifice the brilliant opening fanfare and clever pan down (or up, in AOTC’s case) from the stars. I remember that as a little kid, I didn’t know how to read yet, so I had no clue what it said. Normally, my dad would read out loud for me. You’ll notice how all the young-child-targeted Lego SW specials always have Tom Kane do his CW narration over the crawl. Here’s what I came up with. The movie starts the same, with the fanfare and SW logo. Then cut to a CW-style newsreel with the text usually contained in the crawl being delivered through voiceover. Once that’s done, you cut back to the starfield and show the episode number and title. I’m not sure how well it’d work, but it’d be worth a shot. The thing is, you’d need footage for the montage. ANH would be extremely easy thanks to RO. I was thinking ESB and ROTJ could use footage from EA Battlefront, given that the graphics of the game are practically photorealistic (so long as you don’t show humans or fur). The Prequels would be harder. Maybe that Darth Maul fan film for TPM? You’d have to rewrite the crawl to better match the footage, but that’s pretty much a given, since no one goes into a SW movie to read about politics. Maybe there’s some CW fan films out there to use for ROTS. I really don’t know what to do for AOTC, maybe some footage of Christopher Lee? What about TFA? It would be neat to see the Second Jedi Purge, but you’d need new footage for that. What do you guys think?
