Where should Lucasfilm go after Episode IX?
Time

Honestly, I would prefer they lay off the Skywalker saga for a long while. Perhaps they could pick it up again someday, with something like a 100 year timegap.

Sounds perfect. I can’t imagine that time gap would match the real one though. I think 50 would be decent compromise, but I don’t think the corporate machine could wait that long.

I’m also not convinced much of this has to do with Disney. For better or worse, this is the vision a Lucasfilm without George has for Star Wars.

I think the saga should end with 9 films. I think the other films should focus on other times and other people. I think for trilogies it needs to be something epic, but for a one off film it could be about anyone. I think for the trilogies they should go back to the glory days of the Republic and Jedi. We have Palpatine saying the Republic is 1000 years old and Obi-wan saying the Jedi have been the guardians for a thousand generations, which by some estimates is 25000 years. So that is a huge time frame. It would be fun to have a Trilogy on the origins of the Prequel republic and it would be awesome to do some movies from way before that. When the Sith were the real enemy and not just maneuvering behind the scenes. There are so many corners of the Star Wars universe and timeline to explore. The possibilities are endless. We need to be done with the Skywalker story.

I think if they move away from the episodic saga, they should take that as an opportunity to move away from trilogies. Why not a pentalogy? Or a show?

Frankly that’s not surprising. EA’s handling of the license has been absolutely terrible. Their exclusivity deal should be pulled.

It should never have been made in the first place. I knew from the moment it was announced no good could come from it. They signed a deal with the corporate incarnation of the Devil. It was inevitable it would cause problems.

I love the sequel trilogy. Why is there so much hate for it!? Did everyone forget about the prequels!?

Please get off Ryan’s cock. TLJ sucks ass!! At least the prequels had some watchability

Be nice, or be dog food.

Thank you very much for standing up for me, but I think it is best that you do not give any toxic bullies in the fanbase any notification and recognition by not responding to them. You are just giving them justification by doing so. I just wish the toxicity in the Star Wars fanbase will stop. It’s awful.

The sequels started the toxicity, without them we would all be happier

Correction: People like you started the toxicity. It’s okay to dislike the Jedi, but the way you go about expressing it is unacceptable.

Has anyone ever tried to have Obi-wan say “Was I any different when Qui-Gon trained me” in ESB? One would think it wouldn’t be too hard to have Guinness say that, considering a certain other movie he was in.

As someone who’s never seen Alec Guinness in anything but Star Wars, which movie would that be?

Look, I’m not gonna act like the Sequels have been the greatest addition to the mythos, but by God Lucasfilm needs stand by its decisions. Remember the Paradigm Daleks?

Also, Rogue One was awesome.

The fact is this is a small community, so you can’t just walk away from bullies and expect to never see them again.

The Musical Reconstruction of Harry Potter (a WIP)
Time

I hesitate to post to this thread for fear of overshadowing the HP Edit Megathread I just made, but this is music specific, so I’ll post it here. Let me know if you guys think that’s the right choice or not. Anyway, while I don’t intend to use non-HP music for my edits, for those who are willing to, I did notice that this theme might not be too out of place in HP.

Would Lucasfilm have made new SW films with or without Disney?
Time

The Force Priestesses being the Whills is actually my headcanon.

I don’t think that would ever happen. Lucas sold Lucasfilm for the money. I think he’d hold onto his creation as a long as possible, unless Kennedy hands him a couple billion dollars.

Oh please. He sold it because he wanted to retire. He’s too old for this shit. He’s specifically said that he decided not to do the ST himself because it’d be a ten year commitment. He didn’t the money. He was already rich. He was just giving away his old toys.

Ideas Thread: Harry Potter Edit Megathread
Time

This is the place to share any and all ideas for Harry Potter fanedits that aren’t already attached to a specific edit in development (although those are welcome too). Think of it as the Harry Potter “Radical Redux Thread”.

For starters, I’d like to suggest making the old Flitwick from the Columbus films into a separate character. To establish this, young Flitwick could be added to this shot. Since Filius is Latin for son, it seems only right to make this older teacher Filius Flitwick’s father Pater Flitwick, Pater being Latin for father.

Would Lucasfilm have made new SW films with or without Disney?

all I can say is I think I would much rather have what we got than that “microbiotic” world…https://www.flickeringmyth.com/2018/06/george-lucas-says-fans-would-have-hated-his-star-wars-sequel-trilogy/

What he’s describing sounds like Osmosis Jones, which I don’t even he would want a SW film to be like. He’s probably just poorly describing his ideas. I assume they’d have the creativity of the Prequels, which would be a marked improvement over the Sequels we got in at least that regard. I wonder if he’d have learned some lessons from the Prequels and avoided making the same mistakes. As Jar Jar’s role proves, he responds to criticism at least to some extent. It’s pretty clear he wouldn’t have directed the whole trilogy. I suspect he’d have taken an approach similar to the Originals, if not even more backseat. Hell, for all we know, maybe he’s doing that right now but (understandably) doesn’t want anyone to know.

We didn’t find out until after the Disney deal that the real reason he wanted his own studio space was so he could make the ST right there in his backyard.

I love the idea of George Lucas, waking up, grabbing some breakfast, and heading to the set of the latest Star Wars in his PJs.

From what I understand Solo was being developed by Lawrence Kasdan even before the Disney buyout, and Lucas had at one point planned to write/direct Episode VII himself.

Add to that Rogue One being in development before the buyout.

Info Wanted: New Member/new to fan edits - Direction pleased re "Prequels"
Time

Some mix and matches won’t work due to choices one editor makes that contradict things in a different editor’s work, but Seciors’ I, Hal’s II, and L8wrtr’s III is a popular combo trilogy.

Can I get fries with that?

I’ll also give a shout out to his The Force Awakens: Restructured, which has definitively replaced theatrical TFA for me in a way no other fan edit ever truly has, even prequel edits

Probably because it strays so little from the source material.

Rey & Kylo Ren's Relationship...

This is a pretty good video on just that topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-qi4OhCii4

You know, back in the pre-TLJ days I thought Reylo was idiotic but TLJ goes to great lengths to set it up. Finn, who I believed would end up with Rey by the end, is now with Rose and Poe’s got BB8.

While it might be a cliché, it is an interesting and a new place of the franchise to go. If they do it right, it could help Ep 9. But doing it right would be very hard to pull off, and they might see the entire saga fall apart if they fail. Something to keep in the back of our minds, I guess.

Info: The random and general Fan Edit Ideas thread....
Time

I’ve got both one part (2:37) and two part (1:22 + 1:15) edits of The N00b Adventures I’m currently proofwatching. The split actually just so happens to be at the perfect place both narrative and editing-wise, as it’s just after a midpoint boss battle and covers up the one transition I just couldn’t pull off successfully. Based on my rewatch so far, I think it might work better in smaller chunks (no pun intended) of 10-15 minute episodes. It would still an upgrade from the original, with episodes being mostly around 5 minutes, but would stop between plotlines. This should make for about a dozen episodes. What do you guys think? I guess this series is a little too young for you? It’s not exactly high art, but it holds up.
