But the better answer is that it’s just Star Wars, the same galaxy where starships fly like there is air friction, where you can hear sound in space, and giant worms live in asteroids. Did I forget to mention the space wizards with laser swords?

It’s this

It’s true. All of it. From a certain point of view.

Definitely saving that quote.

Info: The random and general Fan Edit Ideas thread....
Time

What if someone edited Back to the Future II to be more like actual 2015? Not exactly, of course (as with all interpretations of the future, it will, ironically, always be very dated), but just close enough to really feel all too familiar. You could add the Skype or Discord logo to Marty’s video chat with his boss. Replace Jaws 19 with Jurassic World or The Force Awakens (perhaps under the name Star Wars 7). Add some extras who are on their phones. Play some hit song from 2015 when Marty arrives to mirror Power of Love for 1985 and Mr. Sandman for 1955. Maybe one of the McFlies speaks to Siri or Alexa.

For myself I would say I don’t hate any of them and I would, some day, rewatch every single one of them, but I can’t pretend that I like TPM, AOTC, R1, Solo, TFA… (I like some of them when propertly fan edited though) I can enjoy them, find qualities, rewatch a few sequences and be glad to see the “SW soul” supplement in them compared to the average blockbuster, but I honestly don’t like all of them. As a whole, it’s different, and maybe the “I-IX” experience may give the Saga something more as a complete movement than what just separate entries do.

ATOC and TFA are the only ones I did not fully enjoy on my first viewing. Both have segments that just took me right out of the film and derailed the story for me and I have never been able to recover from that. Both need a good fan edit (I would do it very lightly with as few changes as possible) to bring them up to the nearest stories. I cannot say I hate any of them, but those two I have the most profound issues with. Though in contemplating it, one of my issues with TFA has led to a personal retcon that solves a lot of issues for the entire Star Wars universe. Still, it would be a better movie if that was not needed. And the sections of ATOC are just bad and need to be axed.

Indeed AotC’s bad bits, while pretty bad, are relatively harmless. It doesn’t uproot the story or universe. It’s just bad scenes and/or dialogue that can easily be cut. It’s not the same as the problems some people have with TLJ or that I have with RotJ that come from taking the saga in an infuriatingly terrible direction. Granted, some of the problems are also the sort of harmless, easily removed, stuff with no implications down the line, like AotC, which just makes them even worse.

Out of curiosity, what is the headcanon you mentioned concerning TFA?

So much better than the droid or ewok cartoons or the two ewok movies.

Although I haven’t technically seen them, I find that hard to believe. I know they’re all bad, but surely the Holiday Special takes the cake for barely having any semblance of plot. Is it just laughable enough to be ironically better than those other things? I know there’s some bits that are so bad they’re good, but so much of it is just plain boring. Of course, I’m basing this mostly off of word of mouth and reviews. I’m not a masochist.

Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

I’m pretty sure it was joke.

Anyway, you guys seem to be backing up my idea that there will be so many fake leaks that it hardly matters even when there are real ones because you won’t be able to tell. Of course, set pictures are the exception. I also have yet to see fake concept art leaks (that I know of), although I don’t see why they couldn’t be faked. Regardless, concept art is often wildly different from the finished product.

The Last Jedi - A lot of very good ideas executed less well than in TFA, but with a strong third act.

It doesn’t stop there. It has two third acts.

The basic story is sound, but Anakin is too … many things.

That reminds me of a scene in RotS’s blooper reel where Lucas looks at concept for Anakin says “It’s too…much.”.

I don’t think the Clone Wars Movie or any of the furry TV movies should count as Star Wars films. They are Star Wars (unfortunately) but they’re just TV specials, one of which happened to be released theatrically (God, Lucas, what were you thinking). And in case you’re wondering, it’s actually four episodes. We even have the titles and everything.

Star Wars Prequels 35mm 4K Filmized Editions by Emanswfan (a WIP)
Time

While I have nothing wrong with color correction, I think if this is meant as a faithful upscale, you shouldn’t color correct it. Apply the grain first so that we have the original color balance upscaled. You can always color correct it after.

As for the preview, I think it looks way too grainy, but since the idea is consistency, I’d need to compare to the other films to see if it really does its intended job.

I can’t be bothered to check what it looked like in ANH, because I know that regardless, I dislike this recolor. I guess I’m on my own as someone who’s willing to edit the OT to fit PT under certain circumstances.

Eagerly waiting for some screenshots!

Don’t expect to see anything anytime soon, although I can send you my change list if you want.

Favorite abridged Star Wars series?
Time

Auralnauts? Bad Lip Reading? Darths & Droids? Some other I haven’t heard of?

I’d say Auralnauts is better at story while Bad Lip Reading is better at music. However, my favorite by far is Darths & Droids. I don’t even play DnD (although I probably should) and I still find it hilarious. They did a play that adapts The Phantasmal Malevolence, which is great, but you should read the comic too. The play doesn’t have the direct connection of movie stills and cuts some content for time.

What's Star Wars like in your language?
Time

I’m bilingual French/English, but I haven’t watched anything in French that wasn’t originally French since I was kid. I just remember French dubs being pretty lame. No one dares to vary the accents for fear of losing French audiences, which is a shame because I think it would be nice to dub Americans and Canadians as Québécois to contrast Brits, Australians, and Kiwis being dubbed as French.

But back on topic, how is the dub of Star Wars in your native language (or one of them)?

Apparently in the French version, R2-D2 and C-3PO are called D2-R2 and 6-PO in certain older versions (why, though?). The Death Star is called l’Étoile Noire (the Black Star), but in a twist they went with a direct translation for the second one, calling it l’Étoile de la Mort. My cousin and I, even though he generally watches them in French, we always use the English names, so perhaps those anomalies have since been ironed out. Crimson Dawn is translated to Aube Écarlate (Scarlet Dawn), which while faithful, is not nearly as slick. I’ve heard of Darth Vader being called Dark Vador, though I’m not sure if that’s still the case.

As a side note, apparently the German version of The Clone Wars has nearly the entire voice cast from the Prequels reprising their roles.
