your thoughts: Did Disney kill star wars because it sounds like they did with the last jedi solo and resistance.

I guess every generation thinking Star Wars is dead is just going to be a thing from now on.

This reminds me of a page on the hilarious Doctor Who General Wiki (RIP) titled “Times Doctor Who Died”. The first entry in the list was “Doctor Who is Born. Doctor Who Dies.”

Speaking of Doctor Who, just like that show, Star Wars sometimes undergoes regeneration, dying and being born anew. It may not be the Star Wars you knew, but it’s Star Wars now.

Do you think that would take away from Rey’s agency in that moment? Speaking of the saber, a lot of people have been speculating that Rey will likely build a new lightsaber using the pieces.

Placing the Luke/Yoda scene there is an interesting idea, though I wonder if it would affect the pacing any?

So you would cut them crash landing into the base and next time we see them, they are already inside, so we just assume they made it back to the Resistance in between scenes?

Knowing how OT derivative the ST is, I can’t imagine her new lightsaber not being green.

The Prequels already have a main ship. Or many. It always has the same interior, but changes exteriors more often than a functional Tardis. I am referring of course to Padme’s ship(s). Ideally, I’d like her to just have one, but giving them all the same exterior is probably more trouble than it’s worth. I’m just gonna assume it’s the same ship with various redesigns over the years. I call it the Paradise, echoing the beauty of its home planet, its chrome polish, and the idealism of its owner. Really, its changing design is just a symptom of a wider problem of inconsistency with the prequels. Everyone and everything looks completely different in each film.

Anyway, this isn’t the thread for this.

I agree there’s a strong nostalgia factor with the Falcon that works phenomenally in TFA, but is just kinda there in TLJ. The reason I want to replace it with a ship like the Twilight is to give the trilogy its own identity. As it stands, it’s far too reliant on nostalgia and rehashing old ideas. This would be a step in the right direction.

as an aside; It would be fun to see the emperor’s throne room as the spire of the imperial palace (the former jedi temple) and provide a nice mirror to anakin skywalker’s fall in ROTS by setting his redemption in the same place (as well as seeing what’s happened to the jedi temple under 20 years of imperial rule). In such a way you probably wouldn’t have to change much of the throne room scenes (you could just say that the windows are dark because its nighttime, maybe add a few building lights in the background here and there)

This is what I’ve always wanted to do. I could give it a shot in a year or two when I’m done restoring the Tosche Station scene.

So to expand on my idea of replacing the Millenium Falcon, I think I have just the ship: the Twilight. I’m sure if Filoni had gotten his way and made TCW a Rebels-style show about a crew of his OCs, this would’ve been their ship. I can’t prove it, but it seems like a pretty obvious deduction. Luckily, Lucas was there to tell him otherwise, but that meant the ship was severely underused in the finished product. Given it’s such a cool design, it only seems right to give it another chance. It wouldn’t be the same instance of the ship, just another one of the same model. How about the opposite of Twilight…uh…the Dawn? Nah, too short. The Daybreak? Too lame. The Sunrise…the Sunrider! It would go along with Starkiller base also having an establish nounverber name from the SW universe. That’s it, i’ll call it the- what’s this? A cease and desist?! Never mind then.

Btw, I’m working on a frame-by-frame restoration of the conversation between Luke and Biggs at the Tosche Station. That’s it though. I’m not doing the other scenes. One scene is already enough to keep me occupied a few years, and I think the other scenes were deleted for good reasons. In fact, I only think this one should be added to contextualize the reunion scene on Yavin IV added in the SE.

Am I the only one who doesn’t want to lose Endor and the Ewoks? Sure, they’re a bit childish, but they’re lots of fun. Maybe I’m just saying this based on a mix of nostalgia and not wanting to deviate too much from source material. Besides, eliminating them entirely and moving the shield bunker attack to the capital would be next to impossible, VFX-wise.

Here’s an idea I haven’t seen. How about having Anakin admit to killing the Sand People to Palpatine while keeping it a secret from Padme?

Actually, that’s an idea I remember seeing suggested. I’ll go with the claim that it was Hal. Funny enough, Palpatine’s original dialog in the duel with Dooku in RotS, which was reduced to that stupid “yeah”, originally had him saying that he remembered Anakin telling him about the Sand People killing his mother, and telling him that Dooku paid them to kill her in order to get him angry and vengeful toward Dooku.

Doctor Who Edit Ideas
Time

Cameron Samurai will love this thread. This is the place for discussing any and all ideas pertaining to fanedits of Doctor Who, be it Modern, Classic, or even Big Finish, and spinoffs too.

To start off, I think the 60s episodes need some intense reworking. Aside from obviously cutting out large swashes of filler, it could also do with better music. No, it’s not really any worse than the rest of the Classic Series, but it’s nowhere near the level of the music since. Now, given this is old-timey black and white stuff, a full orchestra in high quality audio might feel out of place, so maybe some simpler piano-centric stuff would work, not overhauling the soundtrack completely, but integrating modern motifs when appropriate, such as The Doctor’s Theme, and This Is Gallifrey. Each Doctor should also have their own action theme, as is the standard now.

What if The Hobbit was made into the first few films in Lord of the Rings instead of its own thing?

I’ve come across one pair of editors on Reddit attempting to do that. Before then, I’d toyed with it myself, but thought the time skip would be too big of a problem. Then it hit me (well, weeks later); just use the otherwise useless framing device of old Bilbo writing the story! That way there’s technically no time jump, it’s just the first two films are flashbacks.

Building off of that, how about a Rashomon/The Last Jedi style contradictory tellings of Riddles in the Dark? When Tolkien first wrote The Hobbit, Bilbo wins the riddle contest legitimately and Gollum is willing to give him the Ring (although he can’t find it because Bilbo already has it). When he started writing Lord of the Rings and realized that portrayal of Gollum didn’t match his new story, he rewrote the chapter for new editions and decided that the original was a lie told by Bilbo. Thus, in the first film, when Bilbo meets Gollum, the events could play out like in the first edition of the book, since we’re only seeing this through the perspective Bilbo gives us. Then, in Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf tells us the true story, which he has deduced from speaking to Gollum.
