In general I think my enjoyment of a Star Wars movie is in inverse proportion to the number of planets in it.
I don’t care how you rank any of these films, I really enjoy this method of ranking them.
It works! ROTS has all the planets.
That’s not really my criteria but it’s a good guide. I honestly feel bad that I instigated a whole lot of dumping on Rogue One. I like it fine. I think it’s the weakest of the Disneys, but I think that’s quite a high bar so far.
So I think I prefer The Last Jedi over The Force Awakens now because, while TLJ has the awful Canto Bight shit, at least it tried to do something new (even if it sucked and it’s too serious), and because watching TFA is like watching a movie in 2x speed (and a poor, boring, semi-lifeless one with terrible comedy). They’re still poor movies, but, whatever.
Rogue One also sucks.
Is there anything you do like?
It really does. But thankfully the movie is good enough to absorb it.
Oh don’t get me wrong, if I could put another 20 places between Rogue One and ROTS I would. I do genuinely think the ST and Solo are better, so no regrets there. Phantom Menace is another matter. While I recognise it is a very very bad film, I think its high points and its inventiveness in some areas make it a more enjoyable experience.

Just seen a preview.
I liked it! After a dodgy first few scenes, it becomes entertaining, the acting’s pretty good, (especially Paul Bettany) the script is ok too. Way exceeded my expectations.
That cameo though. Not only is it chronologically nuts, but it’s a totally avoidable self-own by the studio after 2 hours of a solid movie.
Why must everything be so slavishly canon, even to the detriment of the audience’s experience?
That aside, 4 stars I’d say.

The colours look absolutely stunning and your clean-up has worked wonders! Congrats on getting r1 looking this good!
My only criticism of this preview is the whites and blacks are a little clipped, but I’m sure that’s to do with this particular file and not the source.
How does the colour you’ve coaxed out of this print compare to the rerelease LPP you’ve seen?
All the best with your various commitments and looking forward to seeing more as and when you have time. I don’t envy you sorting out those red blotches in the later reels!

I was doing a cleanup of that shot, looking at every frame for minutes at a time, but never saw the human Jawa until I heard about him. It’s so blatant but practically invisible at the same time.

We have been suffering ever since Gary Kurtz was kicked out of the franchise; without him there can never be a good Star Wars movie.
If only we were allowed to own the original versions, and if the SE was just a short-lived anomaly, I wouldn’t be acting so unhinged.
Disney has chosen to turn a blind eye to this cultural atrocity by refusing to release the originals when they easily could.
I do not want to accept a reality where in 2037 there is still no OUT legally available, and the entire population accepts the SE as the version that has always existed.
These movies are too important to be given second-class status and be destroyed like the Bamiyan statues.
The destruction of ancient artefacts in the Middle East is limiting those nations’ ability to recall their history. It’s a war crime. Star Wars is culture with a very small c by comparison.
Haven’t seen the Ewok movies yet because I haven’t managed to brew the right kind of pine-cone moonshine to go with them.

Absolutely! Whatever people believe the colours to be, or whatever people’s preferences, a SW project timed to these cut frames will, at the very least, be a 99.9% accurate interpretation of a Tech print. Maybe not all the Tech prints that were produced, but one of them. Regardless of whether you like the look, that’s still a first. Pixel-averaging, toning down the yellow or green, or re-correcting entirely can all be done at a later date.
of course it’s a contentious issue because everyone wants to see the film at its best, or the way they remember it. But I’m personally very glad Dre’s going about it scientifically first.

I’ve used myairbridge.com before. It always used to have a 25GB limit and I think that’s still the case but recently I think its download windows became annoyingly short. Worth a try though, as a straight direct uploader/downloader.
Cutting out hot, snarky girl in the Tosche station. She had a boyfriend but he was definitely a douche and Luke was in with a shot. In fact, why isn’t the film about her? that, in my opinion, is Lucas’ worst decision.
The less compressed version is now up. It has 7x the bitrate so compression artifacts should be greatly reduced.
