I have to get this off my chest, I wasn’t an OOT purist until 2011 and the Jedi Noooo bs. I had all the movies on DVD (SE of the OT), I even bought season one of the Clone Wars! I am so ashamed.

As someone who has hated the SEs from Day 1, I can say you have nothing to be ashamed about. There’s no difference between us, as long you grew up or came to your senses at some point and realized how truly deplorable those POS abominations are.

A digital wrinkle on an old hoodwink. How many quotes have you seen on a ad, or on a video box from some critic you’ve never heard of? I’m suspicious of those ads that use people coming out of the theater singing the praises of a film myself.

Being a savvy consumer is the best defense.

Sony got caught having used a fake movie critic to generate positive reviews back in 2000.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Manning_(fictitious_writer)

It’s believed by some the IMDB shut down it’s message boards to appease the studios.

Interesting. Never heard of the David Manning thing before. I always wondered about Roger Ebert giving ROTS 3.5/4 stars for that POS film. Of course, there is a lot of that quid pro quo stuff that goes on in the investment world too, where ratings agencies and analysts collude with hedge funds and investment banks to move asset prices.

Your advice to be a saavy consumer is spot on.

I don’t know how many people are familiar with this, but it’s apparently a big marketing thing for companies to inflate their social media presence in order to push their products. They will allocate a budget for inflating their Youtube views and Facebook likes (keep that in mind the next time you see Star Wars: The blah blah blah official trailer, break the all-time record for Youtube views in one day).

I was just looking around at one of Disney’s recent releases on Youtube and, although it’s supposed to be against Youtube (Google’s) policy, a quick scan can find hundreds of bot posts across the comments sections. Just to verify, I went ahead and viewed these pages with several different accounts, and what happens is that if you reply to these bots, your posts will be visible to yourself only, but if you view with another account, you see your posts are invisible. So there is clearly some collaboration going on between Youtube and companies that are paying them (like Disney).

Here’s a video I quickly pulled up on Youtube comment botting:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeHJysMJBaY

Honestly I just posted this to rant because I’m sick of fake movies, fake CGI, fake singing, fake marketing, fake social media promotion, fake everything.

**** off Disney with your fake Star Wars and fake everything.

I’m probably reading way too much into this, but I was over at blu-ray.com just now and noticed the “best deals” at the top of the page has the complete saga set listed for $58.49. That’s the lowest I can remember any retailer selling it for in quite a long time, maybe ever.

All of the movies in that saga set are junk. Talk about overpriced.

Historian Dan Snow has the best response to Fox News’ claim that London is ‘defeated and demoralised’:-

Fox said that?! Whose side are they on? Good thing they weren’t around during the Blitz!

It was Katie Hopkins, who is (if you don’t know) a kind of British Ann Coulter-wannabe. Except unlike with Coulter who has at least some limited support in her Country (as far as I’m aware), every last person in Britain hates Hopkins’ guts with a deep and abiding passion.

Dan Snow’s video and his other twitter responses to her ignorance are very funny but it’s best to just ignore people like her because offending nice people is how she makes a living.

So, another repulsive creature no man would touch, even if it meant saving the entire human race from extinction? Got it. 😉

Katie Hopkins is what would happen if John Cleese turned Ann Coulter into a newt.

ACA failing is exactly what Ryan wanted, but I don’t think it’s going to work out for him.

The deal was the Republicans spent 8 years firing up their base and campaigning on repealing Obamacare, but the RINOs didn’t actually want to repeal Obamacare. They just want to let Obamacare fail on its own, which is what is going to happen.

But I think when it happens, Ryan and the House Republicans are going to take most of the political blame.

I’ll be seeing Beauty and the Beast tomorrow night and will leave a review here. Not crazy interested but the animated feature is quite charming so I’m mildly excited. I’m probably one of the only people on earth who wasn’t a huge fan of the live action Jungle book.

I’ve seen Beauty and the Beast live action and it was enjoyable to an extent but not as good as the original. I enjoy musicals if they are done well. The problem with this movie was that none of the actors are good singers. That’s a huge problem for a musical.

Exact opposite as you though, I haven’t seen the Jungle Book remake yet, but I actually want to because I heard they did an entirely different interpretation from the original.

The guy is complaining that people on an Original Trilogy forum would criticize Star Wars movies that are not part of the original trilogy. What’s so hard to understand about that.

By all means, I hope he stays here and continues appreciating the OT like we all do, continues to enjoy the new films like a few of you do, and understands that some or most people here aren’t going to like the new abominations that Disney keeps putting out.

If he’s really looking for a forum where propaganda is the rule, and everyone loves everything Star Wars, I’m sure I could point him thataway…

Sorry, I try to stay out of the new film threads to not hijack them with negative comments, as I know some of you will like these awful films and that’s your right. But this new info is one of the worst things I have ever heard concerning Star Wars. Social media seems to be outraged.

This is beyond asinine. Why would you take a beloved OT character and start ****ing him up for no reason. That’s exactly what got George in trouble on the prequels. Beyond stupid.

Eh, if I’m being honest I’m sure I won’t stay gone, but I do think I need a break. It seems that the board is becoming more about hating most of Star Wars than liking any of it.

The name of the board is Original Trilogy. OT = 3 movies. That means 5/8 movies are not OT movies, which is more than half, and would constitute most.

Out of 8 movies that have been made, only 2 and half of them are any good. Eventually, there will be 15 or 20 Star Wars movies or more and they will almost all be terrible. Enjoy.

I’m surprised the new Canon hasn’t even touched The Old Republic Era. If it were up to me I would just reincorporate the Jedi and Sith origins from the EU

This is half right. The new movies should have all taken place in the Old Republic era. They could have told the EU to **** off–or not–but they could have still created fresh, original Star Wars films, and still had them be Star Wars. Not all this junk rehash stuff.

I agree with Density’s posts on the last page, but I wasn’t making the same argument as him. I don’t care about high art films or products or anything of the sort. I care about good movies, quality filmmaking. My argument was directed towards the audience, not the filmmakers. It’s a sad reflection on society when an entire generation of people don’t bother to scrutinize the quality or craftsmanship of the entertainment they consume–that they can be distracted by, and only really care to seek out…those good old things of yore.

That’s one of the parody points RLM hit on in their recent shorts around the time R1 came out.

“I know DARTH VADER”
“AT-STs! AT-STs!”

A **** film gets made with all kinds of junk plotholes, rehashes, totally illogical things going on, no character development, etc. etc. But a lot of people gobble it up because it’s familiar. They recognize it. The Beauty and the Beast example I gave was a great one, because in the original you have some voice actors who were gifted singers. They either never starred in another movie, or they were obscure TV actors, but boy could they sing. And that’s what the film called for.

Then in this new movie, you have a lot of actors who simply cannot sing. But they are names! People recognize them from this other movie they saw…or that other movie they liked. It’s without a doubt a corporate decision, and whoever said it wasn’t, has no clue what they are talking about. Lucasfilm is not completely autonomous from Disney. Of course they have a lot of latitude and they are not going to be micromanaged, but when push comes to shove if the Disney execs give them marching orders then you better believe they follow those orders or they would be out of a job.

Walt Disney Pictures made Beauty and the Beast. Lucasfilm made TFA and RO. Walt Disney Studios distributed both. Maybe some day people will learn the difference (spoiler: they won’t).

Actually, if you had watched TFA and R1, which I’m sure you did, you could tell they were made by about 50 different executives, all with their own sometimes disparate ideas, crammed into 2 hours.

Which is how dysfunctional rehash movies get made.

TFA? Fine but Rogue One? Nah. It just a movie that takes place around the time of the OT. How does that make it a rehash?

Another movie with the Death Star

Hahahahaha!

A movie that leads directly into ANH and is about the capture of the Death Star plans shouldn’t have the Death Star in it? WTF?

Why did they make another movie about the Death Star in the first place?

Empire sucked because Darth Vader rehashed his lightsaber from ANH.

When was Darth Vader’s lightsaber killed off in ANH? Was his character arc completely finished when he flew off into outer space?

Of course not, they merely have the power to declassify any documents they wish.

How can they declassify something they don’t know exists?

In the particular matter we’re discussing, Trump either a) knows they exist, or b) is making unsubstantiated shit up again. Because either he knows a factual basis for the claim or he doesn’t. If it exists and he didn’t know about it, that means he still made it up–he just got lucky by the stopped-clock standard.

Also, as Cheney taught us, there are other less-straightforward but equally effective avenues for declassifying info.

Well, my insinuation for several posts has been that he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know.
