Warbler has watched The Exorcist(was: Should Warbler watch The Exorcist?)

^Even if it does hide a much better film that was vandalised by the diabolical suits at Morgan Creek.

Warb is ignoring me so it might be nice if someone quoted me here, the first, sort of official (in the author's eyes) sequel to The Exorcist is The Ninth Configuration which isn't a horror film but has the most amazing bar fight and forms the centrepiece to Blatty's trilogy of films about faith (though it may become a trilogy of four parts if the film of Dimeter get's made).

Quoted for accessibility.

No, MY thoughts on the state of OT.com
Time

Gaffer Tape said:

You think so?  Star Trek stays just as connected to Starfleet's hip as Star Wars does to the Jedi, if you ask me.

The only abiding difference between Wars and Trek, at least in this respect, is that Trek's universe is a bit less ingrown. For example, Picard doesn't turn out to be Kirk's son, Data wasn't built by young Spock, Soran wasn't Khan's clone, etc.

But, that being said, the actual scope within which the Star Trek series takes place is much smaller than that of Wars. Hyperdrive is apparently capable of travelling from one end of the galaxy to the other within days or weeks, whereas warp technology normally takes around sixty years to accomplish the same feat. Therefore, the Star Wars universe should be portrayed as incredibly immense and ultimately inexhaustible. Instead, Lucas "shrunk" the galaxy to the point where everyone is related to everyone else, and the insignificant desert planet "furthest from the bright center of the universe" shows up in five out of the six movies

That, I think, is what drives Anchorhead's frustrations. And personally, in this case, I'm inclined to agree with him. This "shrunken universe" phenomenon gets gradually worse as the OT progresses, but takes an Obama-federal-deficit-sized quantum leap with the onset of the PT. Frankly, I'm surprised Ep. 3 didn't include a ten-year-old Han solo winning the Falcon from lil' Lando, whom we later discover is Mace's illegitimate son. (In the ultra-definitive-archival-special-3d 2013 edition of ESB, Lando actually decapitates a storm trooper with his father's purple lightsaber! Ooh! Ahh!)

Info Wanted: ANH.....Revisited or Purist???

I am a complete purist. I think the very idea of adding new scenes, new effects, etc makes you just as bad as George Lucas. It also undermines the very reason they created this forum.

*George must sit back and laugh when he sees the most popular topic on this forum isn't the petition, but rather a fan edit that is basically "the extra special edition."

*(assuming he's actually seen this forum)

I was going to give you a detailed explanation as to why the two cases aren't even remotely comparable, but I thought better of it. If you're too dense to figure it out on your own, then why bother?

$42, 000 poster

Fucking ripoff I'd say.

If it was $420 I would say cool. $4200o?? Fuck off. Its folded to shit and can't even be practically displayed because of its size. No one stupid enough to buy this has that much disposable income.

Ah, but you must have overlooked this little nugget:

Buying this poster is ECONOMY PROOF! Why waste your money in the stock market? It can crash regardless of any decision you make and can even crash regardless of any decision made by the company related to the stock - Leaving you with a near worthless piece of paper that won't inspire anyone! With the purchase of an historic document such as this original Star Wars 8-sheet poster, it doesn't matter what happens to the economy, you will still have the inspirational document which can be displayed and enjoyed. The magnificence of art and historic documents have an inherent value that relates to civilization and society. Unless civilization itself crashes then this piece will hold its value and if civilization itself crashes - Who will care about money? This poster is definitely ECONOMY PROOF!

:P

Wait... what made the Empire so evil again?

Exactly. Furthermore, isn't it interesting that Padme regards the slaughter of Tusken children with complete detachment and lack of concern, but in Ep. 3 when she finds out that Jedi children have been slaughtered by the same guy in the same way, she reacts with horror and utter disbelief. Why is this important? Because Padme is supposed to be one of the good guys...and, one might argue, the PT's moral compass. ("So this is how liberty dies: with thunderous applause.")

Buuuuut, while the proposed reorganization of the "republic" into a "galactic empire" is instantly judged to be evil, and butchering good little english-speaking cockney Jedi children is a horror and an obstacle most insuperable, somehow it's ok to savagely murder another group of children, just so long as their species is "insignificant." Double standard, much?

Furthermore, the PT equivocates. For instance, murdering children in Ep. 2 is just fine and dandy because "to be angry is to be human." But then when the same guy does the exact same thing in Ep. 3, suddenly it's this revolting, horrible thing.

Or maybe I'm wrong; maybe it's only ok to murder children as long as they're tusken children. Y'know, since they look different than humans, and are kinda creepy. So...the moral message here is "racism is fun"?
