As I say rape as an exclusively sexual term is a modern parlance artifact, extreme as it may sound it is a correct use of the word from a certain point of view.
But the modern parlance renders it incorrect, regardless of one's point of view; archaic usage of a word doesn't really amount to anything at all. If I say "I'm going to participate in a gay parade," it means something completely different today than it did fifty years ago, and appealing to the archaic usage doesn't minimize the fact that it basically amounts to self-misconstrual, etymology be damned.
(BTW, I'm not comparing gay parades to sexual rape, except in the commonality that both terms have taken on very nuanced meaning in this day and age, and using them in a manner commensurate with the old usage only results in communication breakdown and misunderstanding.)
I really do understand what you're saying, and the parallels are there. But I guess I'm just uncomfortable drawing a comparison between tampering with some movies and genocide. Like the phrase "George Lucas raped my childhood," it simultaneously trivializes a truly horrific offense of monolithic proportions and elevates the importance of movies to that of human life, a notion that I hope everyone here would reject out of hand.
But, although I may not be too fond of the hyperbolic language, make no mistake that I am just at outraged as you are at his systematic eradication of an important piece of America's cultural identity...
Isn't that a little...extreme? I prefer to think of Lucas as more of a bull in a china shop than as a despotic mass-murderer.
Wow, that's a gif? Here I thought it was just a still image of one guy kindly offering his soccer ball to another guy.
Which is to say, yeah, it didn't really make much sense to me either.

(actually I'm just feeling lazy)
Lazy Frink, was Lazy.
Fixed.
See? You're not so lazy after all!
Just as long as you don't burn it to a DVD first!! :P
Additionally, I hear Darth Vader once blew up an entire Prius factory with his Super Star Destroyer.
Also, you wouldn't believe the size of the carbon footprint that Death Star gives off...

And I have to say I'm against introducing someone with fanedits instead of the actual movies. Surely your DVDs can't be that bad.
Unless you're proposing that he use the GOUT, I can't say I agree. IMO, the Special Editions are nothing more or less than officially licensed "fanedits" of the "actual movies." Sadly, they are far lower quality fanedits than Adywan is producing.
Well, that's probably true too.
I would say it's "more watchable" than Ep. 2-3; not "watchable" in and of itself.
In the same way, a feces milkshake would probably be easier to gulp down than a feces sandwich. Nevertheless, when all is said and done, they both taste like shit.
I don't know if anyone else here likes Tally Hall, but I noticed their upcoming second album, Good & Evil, is going to be released on vinyl, in addition to CD and digital download.
Assuming the two mixes have the same bitrate and the same number of channels, you could do this kind of "splicing" in Womble, and export the audio to 5.1 AC3. Then, import the newly created AC3 track into Audacity 1.3 to do the music fadeout in the conference room scene. Then, making sure "use custom mix" is selected under Audacity's export preferences, it would be a simple matter of exporting to a new (presumably final) AC3. From that point, I'd recommend re-importing the video and final audio stream into womble to make sure there's no audio drift. If everything looks golden, import the streams into whatever DVD authoring software you're using (I prefer DVD-Lab Pro), insert chapter breaks, and author the DVD.
Again, it may sound complicated to the newly-initiated, but it's really quite a simple edit in theory. Of course, you'd end up with a DVD of the bare-bones video sans Adywan's awesome menus and special features, but aside from that the only loss would be the added slow-mo to Obi's death scene.
Perfect!
Now see, if they'd just replaced Jar-Jar with that guy, the PT would've been much more enjoyable.*
No, no, no; that .gif is all wrong. Those people (except for the sombrero dude) are all in and around houses and office buildings. Redneck trailer trash, if my information is good, tend to hang out in and around trailer parks.
My point exactly. The purist version (if I understand rightly) already has the improved rotoscoping, re-editing, etc. All that's different is the music. Ergo, you wouldn't have to worry about syncing the purist audio to the revisited video at all; it would simply be a matter of replacing the audio as well as the video from Revisited with the equivalent audio and video from Purist. At least in theory, it's a remarkably simple edit...assuming you can live with the loss of the additional slow-motion at Obi-Wan's death (which I assume isn't a big priority, right?).
As far as helping out...sorry, but I'm really not the best person to ask. My current internet connection is spotty at best, and undertaking this project would involve, in addition to the actual editing, downloading the Purist DVD (which I don't currently have, since I've always been satisfied with Revisited) and then uploading the finished project. If you've currently got both versions of Revisited, you would probably be able to learn the necessary skills and do the edit yourself before I had even finished downloading the purist DVD to begin with! But, if you're interested in trying this edit and need any pointers along the way, feel free to shoot me a PM. :)
Well of course that's classy. What kind of idiotic inbred redneck trailer trash would think otherwise?

Seems that the problem would be in keeping the new duel, and its sounds, but in removing the new music and possibly the slowdown of Ben's death.....between the 2004 DVD, Revisited, and Purist.....does anyone think they have the know how to pull this off? (after that, restoring the conference room audio should be a piece of cake)
I think the fix is simpler than you're envisioning it. If I understand the problem rightly, all you'd need to do is use ANH:R as a base, then replace the entire duel scene with the video + audio from Purist...unless I'm missing something.
If this is a project you'd like to undertake, then I direct you to this guide. It will teach you all that you need to know.
Seriously, what you're proposing is neither difficult nor time-consuming. Assuming you've got the necessary software (basically, DVDDecrypter and Womble MPEG Video Wizard) and both the Revisited and Purist DVDs of this movie, it should be a cinch. Most of the time investment would constitute actual ripping of the elements and rendering the final project; as far as editing time itself is concerned, we're talking 5-10 minutes max. As far the conference room audio, that could easily be accomplished in Audacity 1.3, which allows 5.1 AC3 editing. (I'm assuming Ady didn't include any audio bleed of the music into the center channel.)
In my opinion, Ep. 1 contains both the best and the worst parts of the PT. But overall, yes, definitely the most watchable of the three. I think that's due in part to the fact that Ep. 1 actually feels a little tiny bit like there was some emotional involvement. Ep. 2-3 both feel cold, lifeless, shallow, and mass-produced.
Also, Alphabetty, I'd like to request some clarification if I may. So apparently it's classy to use swear words as long as you asterisk out one of the letters, thus mitigating the "offensiveness," but it's redneck and vulgar to actually spell the swear words out? If I have understood you rightly, then please respond and explain by what twisted use of logic you arrived at this brilliant* conclusion.
Crap. I only got two of them right. *hangs head in shame*
This thread is currently about...Oxymoronic Signs!!
It is imperfect, admittedly. Still, it does a good job demonstrating just how much PT time is wasted on pointless "look at these kewl CG ships!!!" sequences.
I tide not to tease him, but I guess I'm salmon who likes poking fun, just for the halibut.
